  60. FastWin v1.O5  purpose is to startup Windows quicker than using 
  61. the old Win.com which can be very slow on everyone system. This 
  62. new version will replace that slow Win.com and give you some 
  63. quicker access time to Windows. You'll see a 8%-1O% faster loading 
  64. time than FastWin v1.O 6% time. What all of this means that in 
  65. version 1 on and average 386 system you are were looking at a 12 
  66. to 13 seconds startup of Windows. Now using the newest version 1.O5 
  67. on the same average 386 system running the enhanced mode you are now 
  68. seeing a 9 to 1O seconds startup of Windows.

  70. FastWin is now more compatitble for all VGA modes and color 
  71. modes to!

  73. Note: The numbers colors you can have depends on how much ram 
  74. you have on your VIDEO CARD or built-in Video in the 
  75. motherboard.

  82. Note: Laptop users using LCD or shades of gray can also use FastWin

  110. FASTWIN1.EXE - Best Speed Use to replace Win.com

  115. Installation is easy after you ran your unziping program on 
  116. FASTW1O5.ZIP 
  117.  
  118. This version you have two different FastWins, 1 & 2:
  119.  
  120. FASTWIN1.EXE: Is the most fastest of the two! Even on a 
  121. very slow 386 you can bootup Windows in less than 1O seconds 
  122. depending on your system setup. 486's will fly even faster 
  123. coming in at 7 to 8 seconds faster or better! Again all of this 
  124. depends on your system.

  128. "F" stands for Fastest Method!
  129. Compatible w/ all VGA modes & Video Cards
  130.  
  131. FASTWIN2.EXE Is for those of you who use special video cards to 
  132. speed up Windows graphics etc. Use this version also if for 
  133. some strange reason you just can't get FastWin1.exe to bootup 
  134. Windows in any mode. Speed will still be good, in less than 13 
  135. seconds and again this depends on your system.

  139. "C" stands for More Compatible Version w/ all VGA modes & Video Cards

  141. Note: See the trouble shooting topic in this manual for some more tips.

  143. Note: These files use 1.8k of conventional under Windows. 
  144. Compared to the FastWin v1.O which uses 1.7k.

  146. Before installing any of the above, be sure to copy your Win.com file
  147. located in your C:\WINDOWS to another part of your HD or to your 
  148. floppy disk.
  149.  
  150. Copy A:\FASTWIN1.EXE  C:\WINDOWS\FASTWIN.EXE
  151.                       OR
  152. Copy B:\FASTWIN2.EXE  C:\WINDOWS\FASTWIN.EXE                      
  153.  
  154. Make sure you name either of the two FastWins FASTWIN.EXE. Use 
  155. only one at a time.

  157. Now make sure your outside or completely exited out of Windows. 
  158. Don't use any Dos box Window on the following:

  160. At the Dos prompt:
  161.  
  162. Type FASTWIN to start Windows in the Standard mode!
  163.  
  164. Type FASTWIN /3 to start Windows in the 386 Enchanced mode!
  165.  
  166. Or add any of the above to your Autoexec.bat file instead!
  167.  
  168. Smartdrv Cache uses after you copy one of these FastWins to 
  169. your \Windows directory use this command SMARTDRV /C to clear 
  170. out any  of the old Win.com information from your Cache Ram.
  171.  
  172. Those who use 32, 64, 128, & 256k internal Ram Cache should do 
  173. a complete reboot of your computer.

  197. If you should encounter trouble using this version, which is more 
  198. compatible than the version 1 was, then follow the advise below!

  200. FASTWIN WON'T STARTUP WINDOWS IN ANY MODE

  204. 1. Try to flush out Smartdrv use Smartdrv /c
  205. 1a.For flushing out Ncache use Ncache /F

  211. 2. Reboot your computer now!
  212. 3. Then restart FastWin using either FASTWIN or FASTWIN /3

  242. Action setup your temporary swap file to a permanent one!

  244. 2 - 8mgs users can get by with only 2048kb or 2536kb permanent
  245. 8 - up   users can get by with only 4096kb permanent or more

  247. For best results you can start off with these numbers above!

  249. Note: Everytime you change your permanent swap file amount you 
  250. must defragment your hard disk first.

  252. Are you using Stacker, SuperStor, Double Disk MSDOS 6 DDisk etc?
