......................................................
WELCOME! Congratulations on your curiosity and willingness to
try something new. I-TRAC is, in fact, a new one-of-a-kind
management tool for coordinating and controlling your
management agenda. And for disclosing relationships you
cannot see with the flat 2D tables of data we are used to.
PRINT THIS! For your own use and to make copies for others,
to introduce them to I-TRAC. You may also give them copies of
your Evaluation Edition (ONLY that edition, of course, which
may be freely distributed) or they can download their own from:
www.radix.net/~execware
NOTE: The Evaluation Edition of I-TRAC is identical
functionally to the retail edition (single or LAN) but is
operable for only 30 days. That time limit will be easily
removed, either before or after the 30th day, if you
register (see PRICES & REGISTRATION below).
Following this WELCOME are 6 sections: INSTALLATION, LEARNING
I-TRAC, TIPS, WARRANTY, PRICES & REGISTRATION, and LICENSE
AGREEMENT. Read the LICENSE AGREEMENT before you mail your
registration fee for the Evaluation Edition or before you run an
accompanying retail copy of I-TRAC software.
......................................................
INSTALLATION
To install I-TRAC, unzip ITW_EVAL.ZIP in the same directory
(preferably C:\TEMP) where you placed it. If using Windows 3.1,
within Program Manager click File, then Run. Type in
C:\TEMP\SETUP.EXE and click OK. If using Windows95 or NT,
click Start, then Run. Type in C:\TEMP\SETUP.EXE and click OK.

LEARNING I-TRAC
Place a chess board, loaded with pieces, before a person
who has not played the game. We do not, of course, expect
that person to know how to proceed. The rules must be learned.
Software is no different. Yet most people have the tendency
to load new software and expect to immediately run it. Only
when a problem is encountered do we look at the documentation.
Given that fact, I-TRAC has been designed to maximize the new
user's ability to learn the program intuitively.
But I-TRAC is a personal management tool, and the ability
to learn it intuitively depends on the individual's management
style and experience. Further, data modeling may be new to
you, so some learning must take place. We therefore urge you
to:
- Study the section below titled HOW YOU WILL USE IT
- Load I-TRAC, click ?, then read/print/use two files:
GUIDED TOUR
CREATING YOUR DATA
.......................................................
HOW YOU WILL USE IT
You will enter into I-TRAC certain details of future events
you are monitoring. Those details are a brief name, a
description, and four parameters: type, date due, to whom
assigned, and the parent issue. You can also list other
dependent events. What you enter are called ACTIONS, filed
in groups called ISSUES - but you will replace those two "key
words" with terms you choose. Then you will use contextual
data modeling to greatly improve the way you "orchestrate"
those pending events.
You should periodically select and review tables of
ACTIONS. And interactively examine different arrangements of
the parameters. Looking at several of the 24 available
formats will disclose relational problems you cannot detect
with a single table. And that is contextual data modeling!
Viewing the ACTIONS with questionable relationships can lead
to a request for a progress report, a reminder or change of
date due, additional guidance, reassignment of responsibility,
renegotiation of the description, etc. A second way to model
the data is to display fewer or more ACTIONS by revising the
selection criteria. The third way is by changing the values
of parameters in ACTIONS, which may change their vertical
location in the table.
When you are satisfied, be sure others who are affected
know what changes you have made!
.......................................................
TIPS
1. Start out using only a few, important, long range events.
Later add as many as you wish. That's the beauty of I-TRAC--
you then "zoom" to look at only the small group you wish to
examine.
2. When you then do examine, be sure to study several formats.
Expect surprises.
3. Even if you don't heavily use contextual data modeling,
I-TRAC is a superior tool for monitoring and coordinating.
4. Never clutter up I-TRAC with minutiae. It is not a good
substitute for a Personal Information Manager.
5. If I-TRAC is on a LAN, edit this file to create a README
document tailored to your organization. Give it to your
I-TRAC Supervisor, and then let others on the LAN know I-TRAC
is available on the LAN with a README designed for them.
