1. Definition of ISDN RAS for Windows NT
------------------------------------------
The ISDN RAS for Windows NT is a generic RASCAPI 2.0 WAN Miniport Device Driver allowing remote user access to the WAN over ISDN.
The ISDN RAS for Windows supports up to 30 ISDN B-Channels, and monitors the phone numbers, charges (if available) and connection times for all incoming and outgoing calls on each of these channels.
The ISDN for Windows NT allows secure caller access, so that only callers from certain restricted ISDN telephone numbers may gain access to the RAS to establish a connection. If a remote callers phone number is not registered the software will refuse the connection.
The configuration of Acotec ISDN RAS for Windows NT may be carried out at run-time from the ISDN RAS Configuration Centre.
2. System Requirements
------------------------
Acotec ISDN for Windows NT requires the following.
Hardware:
- IBM PC 386, 486, Pentium and Pentium Pro or 100 % Compatible
Computer and ISA-, EISA- or MCA Bus
- a minimum of 16 MB of RAM (Workstation) or
- a minimum of 20 MB RAM (Server)
- Hard disk with 2MB space free (ISDN RAS for Windows NT uses
1.5 MB)
- Floppy Disk Drive
- Mouse
- ISDN-Adapter with CAPI 2.0 drivers.
Software:
- Microsoft Windows NT Workstation Version 3.5x or
- Microsoft Windows NT Server from Version 3.5x
- Remote Access Services Version 3.5x
You should also ensure the following:
- The User should have "Admin" rights to the NT Server or
NT Workstation
- The ISDN Service should be enabled and working for Data
Transmission and MSN
- The ISDN Adapters should be installed and functioning
correctly
3. Installation instructions for some ISDN Adapters (Short)
Please carefully read the installation file "readme.txt" from ITK which is located on the disk containing the Windows NT CAPI driver
Note
- If your machine has an EISA Bus and your ISDN Terminal
Adapter (TA) is the model ix1, basic or octo please do not
define it in the EISA setup program.
- If you use the ix1 Primary(s2M), you will still need to
enter values for IRQ, Memory Address and the slot being
used!
The ISDN-TA should be installed as a new network adapter from the control panel. When installing the new adapter select the option that allows you to use a driver supplied by the manufacturer and insert the disk labelled "WinNT".
You may test that the ISDN adapter is functioning correctly after restarting the computer by using the Program "ACO_CT32" (located in the Directory \Tools).
3.2. HST
-----------
Run the "SETUP.EXE" from the HST installation Disk.
Note:
The HST Adapter will not be shown in the Network Setup of the "Control Panel"
You may test the correct installation of the ISDN adapter after successfully restarting the Computer with the Program "ACO_CT32" (in the Directory\Tools).
3.4 Diehl
--------------
The device drivers for the CAPI 2.0 Interface may be obtained from Diehl separately.
The ISDN-TA should be installed as a new network adapter from the control panel. When installing the new adapter select the option to use a driver from floppy disk and insert the Disk labelled "InstDisk".
For the installation of the CAPI device driver use the "Control-Panel" and add "Software" from the Directory "\SOFTWARE"
4. Installation instructions for ISDN RAS for Windows NT (Short)
The Installation of the ISDN RAS for Windows NT is started from the Dialogue Option "Network" in the "Control Panel". You must ensure that you have "Administrative rights"
Program Manager-->Main-->Control Panel-->Network-->Network Adapter-->"Other"
(which requires the Driver Disk from the Manufacturer)
After inserting your disk and selecting the correct drive letter and adapter, the installation will proceed. You will need to enter your serial number and activation key which was supplied with your ISDN RAS for Windows NT. Please enter these values carefully as the installation will abort after three incorrect entries.
Following successful installation of the RASCAPI device drivers you may then setup and configure Remote Access Services.
Your computer must be rebooted after installation and RAS configuration.
