3. Information concerning WAN Miniport
1. General
This version includes the Windows NT driver
software
V2.22 for the ix1-pico board
2. Setup
Use the Setup.exe program on the first disk
to install the Windows NT driver software. This
program will also run the Remote Access Service
(RAS) setup to add the dial-up networking. The
Remote Access Service needs the Workstation- and/or
the Server-Service. These services may not be
present if you have not installed the Windows NT
networking yet.
To install the Windows NT networking, open the
network icon in the control panel. If you are
asked to install the Windows NT network support
click on the yes button and the first page of the
network wizard will show up. Select 'Remote access
to the network' and click on 'next'.
On the second page of the wizard your are prompted
for a network adapter. As the network wizard will
not show you any installed components you have to
select your ISDN board from the list again (Do not
use the search option!). On the next page you can
select the network protocols you want to use. To
connect to a Internet provider you will need the
TCP/IP protocol. Finish this page and the next
two pages by clicking on <next>.
The network wizard will now add the selected
components to your system. If you are asked that a
network adapter of this type is installed already
click on CANCEL!!!
Consult your Windows NT documentation if you have
any further questions on the network setup!
3. Information concerning WAN Miniport
This version of the Windows NT drivers for
ix1-pico contains an NDIS WAN Miniport driver
that can be used for dial-up networking under
Windows NT 4.0.
Concerning the WAN Miniport functionality you can
configure some items on the "Wan Miniport" property
tab within the properties of the ix1-pico adapter
(go Control Panel - Network). These items concern
remote access connections in general:
If you are running a Windows NT Workstation as RAS
server (allow dial-in) you must make sure that the
first ISDN port is configured for dial-in, not the
second. If the second was configured for dial-in by
mistake, due to a conceptional problem within
Microsoft's RAS management you might get into
problems on incoming calls.
If you are using the dial-up network in conjunction
with callback, you ought to make sure that the
"RAS Server Service" is not running. Otherwise
the ISDN port that has previously been used by
a callback connection won't be released by RAS again
(RAS problem). If you run into this problem, you can
stop the RAS Server Service within Control Panel -
Services. Then the ISDN port becomes available again.
