  1. Voss Net Online Internet - Getting Started
  2. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

  4. Thankyou for installing the Voss Net Online Internaut software. This package
  5. contains all the software you need to play the NetQuest game and access the
  6. global Internet network of computers and information sources. The software
  7. is completely free and comes with a seven day trial of the Voss Net Online
  8. service, providing you with access to the Internet, for free with absolutely
  9. no obligation!

  11. To register for your free trial, please follow the simple steps below:
  12.  
  13. 1. Firstly, you must decide on a username for your account. This must be
  14. made up of 8 or less letters or numbers; no punctuation characters are
  15. allowed. It's probably a good idea to think of two possible usernames, just
  16. in case somebody else has already registered your first choice. Most people
  17. choose some contraction of their first and last name (eg. Fred Flintstone
  18. might pick fstone) but it's completely up to you.

  20. 2. Make sure you have your credit/debit card details ready. Although, the
  21. trial is completely free with no obligation to take up a full subscription,
  22. we still require your credit details for the registration process and to
  23. allow a smooth and quick transition from the trial to a full subscription,
  24. should you decide to take one out. Your card WILL NOT be charged without
  25. your express permission on signing up for a full subscription. VISA,
  26. Mastercard, Access and American Express cards are accepted. If you do not
  27. have one of these then please phone 01753-737-808 and we'll arrange a free
  28. trial for you by another method.

  30. 3. Now start up the Voss Net Internaut by double clicking on the Voss Net
  31. Online icon in the Voss Net Online program group. After a short while the
  32. main Internaut window will pop up.
  33.  
  34. 4. Next, you must setup the program to talk to your modem. Click on the
  35. 'Connect!' menu and a window will pop up. Choose the correct telephone
  36. number for your area from the 'Phone Number' box. Then ensure that the
  37. correct speed and Comm port is set for your modem. Finally, go up to the
  38. 'File' menu and select the 'Set modem initialization string' option, find
  39. your modem in the menu that pops up and double click on it. If it's not there
  40. just leave it for the moment, the default string should work ok. Please do
  41. not modify the Username and Password boxes at all.

  43. 5. Now you're ready to go online and register. Click the Connect box next to
  44. the telephone icon. You modem should now spring to life and dial Voss Net
  45. Online.

  47. 6. After a short wait you should be connected to Voss Net. Now, just follow
  48. the instructions that come up to take you through the registration procedure.

  50. 7. If all goes well you will now have a Voss Net Online trial username and
  51. password. To use the account just go up to the 'Users' menu and pick the
  52. 'Add new user' option. Then type your username and full name into the box
  53. that comes up and click on ok. The account will now be set up. When
  54. everything settles down, just type your password into the 'Password' box,
  55. exactly as given to you by the Voss Net system during registration.

  57. 8. Finally, click 'Connect' to go online and surf the Internet!

  60. Don't forget to play NetQuest! Start the game by clicking on the NetQuest
  61. menu option in the Voss Net Online front menu.

  64. After seven days your trial account will cease to give you full access to
  65. the net and you will be invited to take out a full subscription online. This
  66. should take no more than a few seconds and a re-login to complete, so
  67. interruption to your access will be minimal.

  70. account, please read the 'Helpful Hints' file.
