  4. Excel Viewer 7.0 is designed to make it easy for you to exchange 
  5. Microsoft Excel documents with other people and view them on-line. The 
  6. Excel Viewer allows you to open, view, AutoFilter, and print Excel for 
  7. Windows« (versions 2.0 or greater) and Excel for the Macintosh« 
  8. (versions 2.2a or greater) files. Excel Viewer will not allow you to edit an 
  9. open document, although it does support copying and pasting to the 
  10. Clipboard , and drag and drop from any open Excel document. These 
  11. spreadsheet viewing and manipulation features make Excel Viewer a 
  12. capable and convenient Excel document browsing tool and an ideal 
  13. replacement for the Quick Viewer supplied with Windows 95. Microsoft 
  14. encourages  you  to distribute Excel Viewer along with your Excel 
  15. documents to people who do not have Microsoft Excel.

  32. Windows 95 is 065-054-339 (US Version); there is a nominal shipping and 
  33. handling charge for the product. If you are outside the United States,

  39. Information on using Microsoft Excel Viewer for Windows 95

  42. Templates, Macros, and Chart Files
  43. ---------
  44. Templates and chart (.XLC) files are supported in Excel Viewer.  Macro 
  45. files can be viewed, however the macros contained in them cannot be run.

  47. Full Screen
  48. ---------
  49. To view as much of your worksheet at once as possible, choose View 
  50. Full Screen from the menu. To restore your screen, select View Full 
  51. Screen again.

  53. Activating OLE objects
  54. ---------
  55. Excel Viewer allows you to activate any embedded OLE objects 
  56. present in your Excel documents provided that the corresponding 
  57. server is present on your machine. However, any changes made in the 
  58. object are discarded when the OLE server is closed.

  62. Installation and Maintenance
  63. ---------
  64. For installation instructions, see the accompanying file INSTALL.TXT.

  66. Uninstall
  67. ---------
  68. The Excel Viewer Setup program includes a maintenance mode 
  69. option to uninstall or reinstall the Excel Viewer. These options are 
  70. described in more depth below.

  72. To remove the Excel Viewer from your system, do the following:
  73. 1.  Open the "Add/Remove Programs" item in the Windows 95 
  74. control panel.
  75. 2.  Select the "Install/Uninstall" panel and choose "Microsoft 
  76. Excel Viewer" from the list of installed programs.
  77. 3.  Click the "Add/Remove" button.
  78. 4.  Click the "Remove All" button once the Microsoft Excel Viewer Setup 
  79. program has launched in maintenance mode.  You may have to reboot your 
  80. system when the removal process is done.

  82. Restoring ExcelÆs Settings 
  83. ---------
  84. If you selected the "Open With Viewer" option during Setup, you 
  85. will have to uninstall the Excel Viewer as described above or run the 
  86. Office or Excel Setup to restore ExcelÆs proper settings. To use Office 
  87. or Excel Setup to safely and quickly restore settings, follow these steps:
  88.  
  89. 5. If you have the floppy distribution of Office or Excel, insert Disk 1 
  90. into your floppy drive. If you  have the CD distribution of Office or 
  91. Office Pro, insert the CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive.
  92.  
  93. 6. If you are running Windows 95, choose the Run option from the Start 
  94. menu and type drive:\setup /y, where drive is the letter for your floppy 
  95. or CD-ROM drive. If you are running Windows NT, choose the Run 
  96. option from the Program Manager file menu and type the same 
  97. command.

  99. 7. The Office or Excel setup will run and restore your settings without 
  100. copying files. When Setup is done, any changes the Excel Viewer 
  101. Setup made to your system will be undone.

  103. Reinstall
  104. ---------
  105. If you have installed the Microsoft Excel Viewer but are observing 
  106. unusual behavior, you should use the Excel Viewer Setup program to 
  107. reinstall the Excel Viewer. Follow steps 1, 2 and 3 as described 
  108. immediately above. Then, once Excel Viewer Setup has launched in 
  109. maintenance mode, click on the "Reinstall" button to restore any 
  110. missing files or settings.

  112. Getting the Excel Viewer off the Web

  114. Microsoft Excel Viewer can be downloaded from Microsoft's World Wide
  115. Web Server,  http://www.microsoft.com/msexcel in the Free Stuff area.

  117. Technical Support for Excel Viewer

  119. Microsoft Product Services provides a number of no charge options 
  120. for you to obtain more technical information about Excel Viewer. 
  121. These include Microsoft FastTips and the Microsoft Knowledge Base. 
  122. Since Excel Viewer is very similar to Excel, information on a 
  123. particular topic such as printing from Excel might also be pertinent 
  124. to Excel Viewer. Keep this in mind when looking for technical 
  125. information to assist you in troubleshooting any Excel Viewer issue 
  126. you may encounter.

  130. Microsoft FastTips is an automated, toll-free service that provides 
  131. quick answers to commonly asked technical support questions on key 
  132. Microsoft products. FastTips also offers a comprehensive library of 
  133. technical information, and access to a faxable catalog of technical 
  134. white papers and data sheets.
  135. FastTips are available by modem from the Microsoft Download 
  136. Service (MSDL), which you can reach by calling (206) 936-6735. 
  137. This service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The highest 
  138. download speed available is 14,400 bits per second (BPS). For more 
  139. information about using the MSDL, call (800) 936-4100 and follow 
  140. the prompts. 
  141. On the Internet, FastTips are located on the Microsoft anonymous 
  142. FTP server. See "How to Access the FTP Server" section below.
  143. You can have any FastTip mailed or faxed to you from the automated 
  144. Microsoft FastTips Technical Library, which you can call 24 hours a

  170. TechNet, the Microsoft Technical Information Network, is a 
  171. technical information subscription service providing valuable

  179. To access the Microsoft Knowledge Base on CompuServe type "GO

  184. The Microsoft FTP anonymous server provides access to the 
  185. Microsoft Knowledge Base for those users who access to an FTP 
  186. program service provider. To access the Microsoft Knowledge Base 
  187. via the Microsoft FTP site do the following:
  188. 1. Log on to your Internet account.
  189. 2. At the Internet FTP prompt, type
  190.  open ftp.microsoft.com
  191. 3. or use the following IP address:

  193. 4. When prompted for a user name, type

  195. 5. When asked for a password, type your full electronic mail 
  196. address (for example, johndoe@test.com). 
  197. 6. Type "cd kb" to go to the kb sub-directory.
  198. 7. Once you are in the KB directory, download the README.TXT 
  199. and INDEX.TXT files located in that directory. README.TXT 
  200. contains important information regarding Knowledge Base 
  201. articles on the Internet FTP server and how to access them.
