- Excel Viewer 7.0 is designed to make it easy for you to exchange
- Microsoft Excel documents with other people and view them on-line. The
- Excel Viewer allows you to open, view, AutoFilter, and print Excel for
- Windows« (versions 2.0 or greater) and Excel for the Macintosh«
- (versions 2.2a or greater) files. Excel Viewer will not allow you to edit an
- open document, although it does support copying and pasting to the
- Clipboard , and drag and drop from any open Excel document. These
- spreadsheet viewing and manipulation features make Excel Viewer a
- capable and convenient Excel document browsing tool and an ideal
- replacement for the Quick Viewer supplied with Windows 95. Microsoft
- encourages you to distribute Excel Viewer along with your Excel
- documents to people who do not have Microsoft Excel.

- Information on using Microsoft Excel Viewer for Windows 95

- Templates, Macros, and Chart Files
- ---------
- Templates and chart (.XLC) files are supported in Excel Viewer. Macro
- files can be viewed, however the macros contained in them cannot be run.

- Full Screen
- ---------
- To view as much of your worksheet at once as possible, choose View
- Full Screen from the menu. To restore your screen, select View Full
- Screen again.

- Activating OLE objects
- ---------
- Excel Viewer allows you to activate any embedded OLE objects
- present in your Excel documents provided that the corresponding
- server is present on your machine. However, any changes made in the
- object are discarded when the OLE server is closed.

- Installation and Maintenance
- ---------
- For installation instructions, see the accompanying file INSTALL.TXT.

- Uninstall
- ---------
- The Excel Viewer Setup program includes a maintenance mode
- option to uninstall or reinstall the Excel Viewer. These options are
- described in more depth below.

- To remove the Excel Viewer from your system, do the following:
- 1. Open the "Add/Remove Programs" item in the Windows 95
- control panel.
- 2. Select the "Install/Uninstall" panel and choose "Microsoft
- Excel Viewer" from the list of installed programs.
- 3. Click the "Add/Remove" button.
- 4. Click the "Remove All" button once the Microsoft Excel Viewer Setup
- program has launched in maintenance mode. You may have to reboot your
- system when the removal process is done.

- Restoring ExcelÆs Settings
- ---------
- If you selected the "Open With Viewer" option during Setup, you
- will have to uninstall the Excel Viewer as described above or run the
- Office or Excel Setup to restore ExcelÆs proper settings. To use Office
- or Excel Setup to safely and quickly restore settings, follow these steps:

- 5. If you have the floppy distribution of Office or Excel, insert Disk 1
- into your floppy drive. If you have the CD distribution of Office or
- Office Pro, insert the CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive.

- 6. If you are running Windows 95, choose the Run option from the Start
- menu and type drive:\setup /y, where drive is the letter for your floppy
- or CD-ROM drive. If you are running Windows NT, choose the Run
- option from the Program Manager file menu and type the same
- command.

- 7. The Office or Excel setup will run and restore your settings without
- copying files. When Setup is done, any changes the Excel Viewer
- Setup made to your system will be undone.

- Reinstall
- ---------
- If you have installed the Microsoft Excel Viewer but are observing
- unusual behavior, you should use the Excel Viewer Setup program to
- reinstall the Excel Viewer. Follow steps 1, 2 and 3 as described
- immediately above. Then, once Excel Viewer Setup has launched in
- maintenance mode, click on the "Reinstall" button to restore any
- missing files or settings.

- Getting the Excel Viewer off the Web

- Microsoft Excel Viewer can be downloaded from Microsoft's World Wide
- Web Server, http://www.microsoft.com/msexcel in the Free Stuff area.

- Technical Support for Excel Viewer

- Microsoft Product Services provides a number of no charge options
- for you to obtain more technical information about Excel Viewer.
- These include Microsoft FastTips and the Microsoft Knowledge Base.
- Since Excel Viewer is very similar to Excel, information on a
- particular topic such as printing from Excel might also be pertinent
- to Excel Viewer. Keep this in mind when looking for technical
- information to assist you in troubleshooting any Excel Viewer issue

- The Microsoft FTP anonymous server provides access to the
- Microsoft Knowledge Base for those users who access to an FTP
- program service provider. To access the Microsoft Knowledge Base
- via the Microsoft FTP site do the following:
- 1. Log on to your Internet account.
- 2. At the Internet FTP prompt, type
- open ftp.microsoft.com
- 3. or use the following IP address:
- open 198.105.232.1
- 4. When prompted for a user name, type
- anonymous
- 5. When asked for a password, type your full electronic mail
- address (for example, johndoe@test.com).
- 6. Type "cd kb" to go to the kb sub-directory.
- 7. Once you are in the KB directory, download the README.TXT
- and INDEX.TXT files located in that directory. README.TXT
- contains important information regarding Knowledge Base
- articles on the Internet FTP server and how to access them.
- INDEX.TXT contains a list of article titles and article IDs for
- each article.
