(v1.95)
27.10.96
---------------------------------- Purpose -----------------------------------
A configurable context-menu!
Is your shell context-menu getting far to long? Then install this small little
tiny 'productivity menu'. It replaces some of the the things available with MS
PowerToys, and also adds a few toys of its own. It will appear as the submenu
'..more' in your normal shell-menu.
Remember to remove any PowerToy that is duplicated and your menu will become
far more manageable.
And if you find the menu is not to your liking, just select 'Configure' in the
menu to do a face-lift.
-------------------------------- What's new? ---------------------------------
v1.95 Configuration program rewritten. It is now fully drag and drop. You can
build a menu-tree as deep as you want by adding new submenus. This
feature might seem an overkill in this version, but more items are to
come.
Added the 'Configure' option in the menu.
----------------------------- Install/Uninstall ------------------------------
Installation:
1. Decompress the four files 'CtxMore.Dll', 'CtxMore.inf',
'CtxMore.txt' (this file) and 'CtxMore.exe' in a suitable
directory.
2. Run CtxMore.exe
3. You can now delete all files from the directory you decompressed them.
Uninstallation:
This is done via the Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel. The
program will leave NO trace of itself.
---------------------------------- The Menu ----------------------------------
All items can either be removed, renamed and moved. Menu-separators can also
be inserted/removed at will.
The full submenu consists of:
Explore from here ..... Opens an explorer window rooted where you clicked.
Also works with shortcuts. (Now you can remove the
corresponding PowerToy.)
Open Container ........ Same as above, only a different view of things. Though,
if you clicked on a shortcut to a folder, the folder
in which the 'target folder' resides is opened. Please
read that again:) (This function is a duplication of
'Target -> Open Container' in MS PowerToys)
Copy Name ............. Copies the name of the object you clicked on to the
clipboard.
Copy Target Name ...... Same as above, but only works for shortcuts.
Show Clipboard* ....... This will display what is currently in the clipboard.
This item will be grey if the file 'Clipbrd.exe' is
not found in your windows directory.
DOS Prompt ............ Opens a DOS session rooted where you clicked. (Now
remove the corresponding PowerToy.) Works for
shortcuts too.
Alternative Prompt* ... For 4DOS users. Operation is otherwise same as for
'DOS Prompt'. Note however that this item will be grey
if the file 'c:\4dos\4dos.com' is not there.
Target Properties ..... Shows the properties of the object the shortcut points
at. Very handy for shortcut to Drives. (You can now
probably uninstall the PowerToy 'Target' if you, as
me, only used this feature.)
Configure ............. Runs 'CtxMore.exe' allowing you to reconfigure your
menu. Note that if you remove this item from the menu
you will have to locate 'CtxMore.exe' in the
System\ShellExt
directory to be able to reconfigure the menu.
Note that the items marked with an asterix are not part of the default menu
after installation.
All items above can be moved, removed and renamed. Menu-separators and
submenus can be added/removed at will. All by running 'CtxMore.exe' via the
'Configure' option in the menu.
Unless you yourself have configured items to be unavailable the following
text apply:
All items will always be visible. Regardless of what the context of your click
suggests. This will make it easier to locate them after using the menu for a
short time. Some items will however appear grey if the operation is not
appropriate in the current context, or is unavailable due to uninstalled
features of your W95 setup ('Clipbrd.exe' above).
Some 'hidden' features exists. For instance: if you right-click on a
standalone file-object WITHIN a folder, 'Explore From Here', 'DOS Promt' etc.
will still be selectable even if executing the operation might logically be
ludicrous. What happens is this: The operation takes place as if you clicked
on the folder that contains the file-object (the operation executed is the
same as what would happen if you right-clicked the leftmost icon in the
titlebar of the folder-window containing the file-object ..you knew that was
possible didn't you?).
Most operations are also available if you right-click your Start button. (Try
'Explore From Here')
------------------------------- Configuration --------------------------------
Choose 'Configure' in the menu and manipulate at your hart's desire!
The left pane shows the structure of the current menu. The right pane contains
items that can be added to the menu. Just drag and drop items between the two
panes and click 'Change' to reconfigure your menu.
You should note a couple of things:
* You can remove all items in the menu by dragging the root (..more) to the
right pane.
* You can drag multiple items from the right pane.
* Items will be added after the item you drop onto.
* If the target for your drop is a submenu the item will be added first to
the submenu.
* To rename items just do a slow double-click excactly as in a normal
explorer-view. F2 is also available as a shortcut.
* After you press 'Change' you can try out the menu immediately by clicking
on an appropriate icon on your desktop.
It should be easy to get the hang of it after a short while.
--------------------------------- Known Bugs ---------------------------------
Does not cope well with shortcuts that do not point to file-objects.
--------------------------------- Disclaimer ---------------------------------
Software always contain bugs. This program is no exception. In fact, there are
known bugs (but none harmful are currently discovered). So you use this
'utility' at your own risk. I can not be held responsible if it destroys
anything of yours.
-------------------------------- Legal Stuff ---------------------------------
This program and the accompanying files are in a beta stage and are therefore
freeware, but will later be released as shareware. This will happen when
version 2.00 is out.
All files remain the copyright of the author, Eirik Hansen.
-------------------------------- Distribution --------------------------------
Do not modify any files if you are distributing the program further.
Distribute only the unmodified zipfile. (You can include a file telling from
where the utility was downloaded.)
The main reason for this is of course to have some means of bug and version
control. If you spot bugs, report them to me so that I can fix them. I will
then most likely release a new version that everyone can enjoy.
Note also that you cannot charge any sum for this program other than for the
cost of the distribution medium.
------------------------------- To Contact Me --------------------------------
I really would like your suggestion to what other items would be useful to
have in the menu. Also I would appreciate comments of any sort.
