  47. 1.      Overview
  48.  
  49.         This CD contains the ELSA Display Driver for Microsoft
  50.         Windows 9x.
  51.  
  52.         The driver supports 256, 65536 and 16 Million colors in
  53.         all resolutions available on used ELSA board.

  71.         In case of trouble during or after installation, please make
  72.         sure you have all the files mentioned above!

  76. 3.      Installation
  77.  
  78. 3.1     Installing ELSA graphics board for Windows 95/98
  79.  
  80.         Remove your "old" VGA and put the ELSA graphics board into your
  81.         computer. If your ELSA graphics adapter contains a VGA-switch, 
  82.         be sure that it's position is set to the "1" position (VGA 
  83.         enabled). 
  84.         On startup Windows 95/98 detects the ELSA graphics board as
  85.         "PCI early VGA Device" or a "PCI standard VGA adapter" and 
  86.         prompts for a manufacturer disk. Advanced users can now install
  87.         as described in 3.3, Microsoft WHQL confirm way to install.
  88.         If you prefer an easy way to install the driver or the driver is 
  89.         downloaded as EXE from the web you should first confirm Windows 
  90.         request to install a "PCI Standard VGA adapter". Later you can 
  91.         start the EXE or install by WINNERware CD.
  92.  
  93. 3.1     Installation from WINNERware CD
  94.  
  95.         During a running Windows 95/98 session insert the WINNERware CD
  96.         into your CD-ROM. Normally after the CD is read, a setup is 
  97.         started and guides through installation. In case 'Auto Insert 
  98.         Notification' is disabled in your system, the setup has to be
  99.         started manually by double clicking its icon in the root of CD.
  100.         Now you can choose the components to be installed. After 
  101.         rebooting the system your monitor is recognized and installed. 
  102.         A resolution and color depth can be chosen now.
  103.  
  104. 3.2     Installing downloaded driver packages
  105.  
  106.         Driver packages from the web are self-extracting EXEs. The files
  107.         are temporary copied to e.g. c:\elsainst directory and an 
  108.         automatic driver setup is started. Tools are installed, too.
  109.         After finishing the setup or canceling the procedure the 
  110.         extracted installation files are deleted, including the 
  111.         temporary created folder.
  112.  
  113. 3.3     Microsoft WHQL confirm way to install
  114.  
  115.         After Windows recognized the ELSA graphics adapter choose
  116.         'Have Disk...'. If you are updating the driver manually, select
  117.         'change...' in the advanced settings of the diplay properties.
  118.         Now browse through the ELSA CD and select the proper display 
  119.         driver subdirectory (e.g. GLORIA\SYNERGY\WIN9X\STANDARD).Windows
  120.         will copy the driver files and prompt you to reboot the computer.
  121.         After restarting, Windows is running with the ELSA display 
  122.         drivers active. If your ELSA graphics adapter is not the primary 
  123.         display adapter in Windows 98, you have to activate the hardware
  124.         by clicking on the connected monitor bitmap in the global windows
  125.         display settings.

  127. 3.4     Installation extension
  128.  
  129.         The drivers installation routine will additionally create the 
  130.         ELSA Settings and ELSA 3D Settings property pages and install an
  131.         OpenGL ICD. 
  132.         The drivers setup included in self-extracting driver packages
  133.         or the WINNERware CD will install additional tools like WINman
  134.         Suite and ELSAinfo. In case your graphics adapter is provided
  135.         with video I/O capabilities, the setup will install the software
  136.         components for these devices, too.

  138.         In all following Windows sessions you can change the resolution
  139.         without rebooting your system.

  160. 5.1     DirectDraw/Direct3D support
  161.  
  162.         The display driver do support DirectDraw/Direct3D from
  163.         DirectX, but to use it in an application, you must install
  164.         DirectDraw/Direct3D. The Microsoft DirectDraw/Direct3D
  165.         components are not included in the standard retail version of
  166.         Windows 95. You need an installation of DirectX 5 or higher.
  167.  
  168.         To install DirectDraw/Direct3D use the CDSETUP from your
  169.         WINNERware CD.
  170.  
  171. 5.2     AGP and Windows 95
  172.  
  173.         AGP is supported only by the Windows version OSR-2.1. This is
  174.         available after upgrading a Windows 95b (OSR2) version by the
  175.         USB-Update 'USBSUPP.EXE'.
  176.         The version number of your installed Windows can be found in
  177.         the registry under: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\
  178.         Windows\CurrentVersion\Version and VersionNumber.

  195. 6.1.1   Installation over an nVIDIA-driver
  196.  
  197.         If you install the ELSA Display Driver over an existing nVIDIA 
  198.         display driver, the key:

  208.         The hardware support for OpenGL only works at 16Bpp up to
  209.         800x600 Pixel.
