Welcome to the DesEdit Beta 1.0b Release
----------------------------------------
You need the following zip files:
support.zip - DesEdit runtime support files
de-b10b.zip - DesEdit system
The *.SLL and *.DLL files in the support.zip archive can
be put in any directory on your path, or in the DesEdit
directory.
Please unzip the de-b10b.zip file using the "-d" parameter.
Please read the doc files before attempting to do anything
useful with DesEdit. Some things are not intuitive, but it
is very powerful when you understand how things work.
You should edit the following entries in the DesEdit.ini file:
levelPath = d:\projects\desedit\levels
descentDirectoryPath = d:\games\d1
The levelPath entry should point to the directory you nomrally
keep your RDL files (not the Descent directory).
The descentDirectoryPath entry should point to your Descent
directory. This is only used when exporting a level to the
Descent directory.
What's New in Beta 1.0b?
Well, not much. I'm basically releasing this now because I'm moving
from Ottawa, Canada down to California in two days, and I won't be
doing much on DesEdit for the next month.
There are a couple new things, though.
- you can select a cube by clicking anywhere on a side
- new 'inside' view mode (just to give an idea of what
it'll really be like)
- bunch of small bugs fixed
If you find any bugs, or have any questions, or want to see
any new features:
READ THE CURRENT BETA INFORMATION PAGE OFF MY WEB PAGE FIRST !!!
I don't want to get seventy-five million mail messages saying
'I'd like to see cool lighting modes'.
I'll update that page very regularly with new information, so if
you're sending me stuff, please check there just before you send
it...
My DesEdit web page is at: http://www.ftn.net/~jon/desedit.html
My email address is Jon@Ftn.net. Please put 'DESEDIT BETA'
in the subject field of any bug reports/feature requests/etc.
Also, make sure you read the doc that is included, before
you ask me something.
Thanks, and have fun...
