Thank you for your interest in the Home Page Wizard.
The Home Page Wizard is an authoring tool that makes it easy for
members to create a home page on the World Wide Web (WWW) through
CompuServe's Personal Home Page Service. It offers drag-n-drop editing,
templates, tips and context-sensitive help to assist members in the
creation of their home page. The Wizard also has a "TEST" button that
will display the page in a browser before placing it out on the Web.
When creating a new "project" in the Home Page Wizard, you will be presented
with a few choices that will help you get started creating your home page.
Choose one of the styles you would like to start with and fill in each of the
fields. These templates are created as starting points and can be edited or
changed. If you prefer to use your own style, begin with a blank template
and build your page from scratch.
Home Page Wizard FAQ
====================
How long will it take for my page to be "on the net"?
Moments after the publishing process, you and everyone else using WWW
(World Wide Web) will be able to access your home page.
What information am I allowed to post on my Personal Home Page?
Any content on your home page must abide by CompuServe's Operating Rules
and Service Agreement Terms. Use of "inappropriate material" such as
profanity, pornography, illegal or copyright material on any home page,
will result in removal of your home page; and flagrant or repeated
violations may lead to termination of membership. If you need to review
any of the Rules or Service Agreement Terms please use the GO RULES
command online.
How much does it cost to download the Home Page Wizard and setup my
Personal Home Page?
The download of the Wizard is free. Members may also place their Personal
Home Pages online free of charge. Please note, standard connect time
charges and any supplemental network surcharges do apply during the
publishing process.
How often can I submit updates for my Web page?
You may update your Personal Home Page as often as you feel necessary.
You will not be charged for any changes or updates made to your Web page.
Once again, standard connect time charges and any supplemental network
surcharges do apply during the submission process.
How much storage space do I have available for my page?
CompuServe is allowing a maximum of one megabyte of storage space for
each member publishing a home page.
I've published my web page, but how do I view it? What is the address?
During the publishing process, you are prompted for the address you would
like to use for your home page. Be sure to write this address down so
you do not forget it. The address that you choose for your web page, will
also pre-register your for a mail alias. In the future, mail aliases will
allow you to use a name instead of your User ID number for a mail address.
For example, if you choose JOE, your web address or URL (Uniform Resource Locator)
will be:
http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/joe
and your mail alias would be: joe
and your Internet mail address would be: joe@compuserve.com
If you forget your URL, you can find your page by searching through the
OurWorld Home Page database (http://ourworld.compuserve.com/) or you can
submit your page again and the same URL will be displayed.
Can I use other HTML authoring tools and HTML documents to create my home
page, or do I have to create a new page with the Wizard?
Any HTML file can be published on CompuServe by using the Publishing
Wizard. Be sure to include all the HTML documents and any .gif,.jpg files
that are "called" within your home page.
Is there a Mac version of the Home Page Wizard?
At this time, there is only a Windows version of the Wizard, although we
do plan to release a Macintosh version in the future.
What do the tabs on the left-hand side of the Home Page Wizard do?
How do I use them?
The Home Page Wizard allows you to create multiple pages in your project.
This allows you to have a "theme" or style for each page. The tabs simply
give you a way to see and access all the pages in your project. For example:
One person may have the main page (or index) that gives a short
description about themselves and a overview of the contents on their
home page. Then they may have a page created of their favorite hot links,
a page of their favorite restaurants, a page of their Top Ten reasons to
have a home page on CompuServe, etc. with all of them linked together with
Internal Links. With this type of design, it is easy to keep home pages
organized and easy to follow.
How do I get assistance if I'm having difficulties with the Wizard?
The Wizard was designed with the novice user in mind. If you run
into problems while building your Personal Home Page, please choose
the HELP pull-down menu, and you will receive context-sensitive
help that will guide you through virtually any problem you may have.
If you continue to have problems, you may receive further assistance
by using the NetLauncher Support Forum. Please read/search the messages
that are posted in the forum, as someone may be having the same problem.
If you do not see a message that relates to your problem, post a message
to SYSOP. When posting a message to SYSOP, please compose a clear and
concise message that states background information about your machine,
the software and version number you are using, what problems/questions
you may have. If you are getting any error messages, please include the
EXACT error message and the steps you used to produce the error.
