  3. ~L/? ~G- This help screen.  ~L?~G by itself, without the ~L/~G, will also work.

  5. ~L/q ~G- Quit (exit chat, go back to the BBS)  ~Lq~G or ~Lx~G by itself will
  6.      also work.

  8. ~L/t ~G- Change "Channel" - TommCHAT supports 256 "channels" so that separate
  9.      discussions can be carried out without interference or confusion
  10.      with other conversations.  Include the channel number you want to
  11.      change to, example:

  13.                 /t42
  14. ~G
  15.                 ... this will take you to channel 42.  Only other users
  16.                     on channel 42 will be able to see what you publicly
  17.                     type.
  18. ~O
  19.      By default, you start out on Channel 1.

  21. ~L/s ~G- "Status" - gives a quick summary of all nodes using TommCHAT.
  22.      Typing ~Lwho~G by itself on a line does the same trick.

  24. ~L/sm~G- "Show Members" - gives a quick user list
  25.  
  26. ~L/ga~G- "Generic Action" - crudely mimics a popular Glop feature.  This command
  27.      causes the system to make a third-party statement about you.  Here
  28.      is an example:

  30.              /a is laughing his fool head off!
  31. ~G
  32.      This might cause the following to be displayed to everyone on your
  33.      channel:
  34. ~L
  35.              Waffle is laughing his fool head off!

  37. ~L/a ~G- "Action" - This invokes SmartActions.
  38. ~L/a?~G- "Actions Help" - Detailed help for SmartActions.
  39. ~L/al~G- "Actions List" - List all available SmartActions.

  41. ~L/h ~G- "Handle" - lets you change your online name in TommCHAT
  42.       Here is an example:

  44.              /h Waffle

  46. ~G     This will change your handle to "Waffle".  You have the option of
  47.      permanently saving the handle as your default, or just leaving it
  48.      as a temporary handle.

  50. ~L/p ~G- "Private" - Anything you type on the same line with /p will go to
  51.      the node you specify only.  Here is an example:

  53.              /p2 Hey, Larry, what's up?
  54. ~G
  55.          This will cause the following message to be displayed to the
  56.          user on node 2 (hence the /p2):

  58.              P#2 Waffle: Hey, Larry, what's up?

  60.          This feature has a couple of shorthand forms which do exactly the
  61.          same thing.

  63.              /2 Hey, Larry, what's up?

  66.          In the latter form, you can use the first few letters in the other
  67.          guy's handle, or if he is using funny high-bit ANSI characters
  68.          that you can't type, you can specify a few characters from in the
  69.          middle of the handle, for example:

  71.              /arry Hey, Larry, what's up?
  72.  
  73. ~L/x ~G- "Squelch" - Disallows /p messages from a user.  To sqelch someone
  74.      type /x followed by their node number, e.g.
  75. ~P
  76.              /x2
  77. ~G
  78.          This will stop whomever is on node 2 from sending you /p
  79.          messages.  To allow a user to /p again, or "unsquelch",
  80.          simply repeat the command, e.g. /x2 a second time will
  81.          unsquelch node 2.

  83. ~L/xa~G- "Squelch All" - Disallows /p messages from all users!  This will
  84.      actually squelch everyone who is on at the time, however if someone
  85.      logs off and comes back, they will be able to /p you again.  You can
  86.      unsquelch everyone by typing /xa again, and you can selectively
  87.      unsquelch certain users using the above /x command.

  89. ~L/tt~K<node>~G - Participate in a "Tele-Trial" - by using this command
  90.      you are casting a vote to remove the user on the node you specify
  91.      from the system!  If enough votes are cast, the user will be kicked
  92.      off!  ~OOne vote per user...

  94. ~L/u1~K<text... >~G - Enter your "hello" message, which announces to
  95.      other users when you are logging on.  The <text> can be up to 96
  96.      characters and may include embedded characters.  To go back to the
  97.      default "hello" message, just type ~O/u1~G without any text.

  99. ~L/u2~K<text... >~G - Enter your "goodbye" message, which announces to
  100.      other users when you are logging off.  The <text> can be up to 96
  101.      characters and may include embedded characters.  To go back to the
  102.      default "goodbye" message, just type ~O/u1~G without any text.

  104. ~L/m ~G- Message - This displays one of the system messages which are
  105.      automatically displayed from time to time.  There are up to 36
  106.      system messages from A to Z and 0 to 9.

  108.         Example:

  110.              /ma

  112.         will display the /ma message (if present).
  113.  
  114. ~L/m+~K<slot>~G - Enter Message.  If you have been assigned a message
  115.      slot by the sysop, you can enter text into it using this command.

  117. ~L/m- - Toggle /m auto messages on and off.
  118.  
  119. ~L><user>~G - Direct your comments to one user, but keep it public.
  120.         This probably needs some explaining.  With this command, you can
  121.         speak publicly, but it will be known by all on the channel to whom
  122.         your message is intended.  This helps people keep track of more
  123.         than one conversation on the same channel.
  124.  
  125.         There are several forms for this.  You can enter > followed by the
  126.         user's node and then the message, or use a full or partial handle.
  127.         Here are some examples.

  129.         >larry Hey, Larry, how about them Leafs?
  130.         >arr Hey, Larry, how about them Leafs?
  131.         >2 Hey, Larry, how about them Leafs?

  133.         Any of these might generate:

  135.         (1) Waffle (to Larry): Hey, Larry, how about them Leafs?

  137.         Except for Larry, who sees:

  139.         (1) Waffle (to you): Hey, Larry, how about them Leafs?

  141.         There are a few "special" cases of this.

  143.         You can specify your own node or handle, and it will say (to
  144.         himself) or (to herself) to everyone on the channel except you, who
  145.         will still see (to you).  You can also say something to >all which
  146.         shows up as (to everyone) or to >none which shows up as (to
  147.         no-one).

  150.      Anything else you type will be sent to everyone else on your
  151.      channel!

  153.                 A new feature for version 1.3 is the "Private" or "locked"
  154.                 channel.  In this, a user can go to another channel, "lock"
  155.                 it, and then only users she invites to the channel will be
  156.                 able to go to that channel.  All others get a message
  157.                 stating that the channel is locked.

  159.                 There are four basic commands.
  160.  
  161.                 /lock
  162.  
  163.                 This simply locks the channel that the user is on.  There
  164.                 are limits to this, of course.  See "NoLock" in the config
  165.                 file and earlier in this document.

  167.                 /unlock
  168.  
  169.                 This unlocks, or frees up for public use, the channel that
  170.                 the user is on.  Note that TommCHAT keeps track of who
  171.                 locked the channel, so only a sysop or the user herself who
  172.                 locked the channel can use /unlock.

  174.                 /invite
  175.  
  176.                 This invites a user to the channel.  You can specify a
  177.                 username or a node, e.g. /invite tommy or /invite 1.  If
  178.                 nothing is specified, TommCHAT will supply a list of users
  179.                 and ask which one to invite.

  181.                 /eject
  182.  
  183.                 This kicks a user out of the channel.
