  42. ────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────

  44.     TMStat is a small utility that takes information in TM.USE, the usage
  45.     file, and produces a useful statistical report on your usage of
  46.     Telemate. The command line format of TMSTAT.EXE is
  47.  
  48.         TMStat [usage.USE] [phone.FON] [/ddd] [/LDnnn.nn] [/p]
  49.  
  50.         usage.USE : uses a different usage file instead of TM.USE
  51.         phone.FON : uses a different phone directory instead of TM.FON
  52.         /ddd      : reports for the last ddd days
  53.         /LDnnn.nn : calculates long distance charge nnn.nn per minute
  54.         /p        : pauses after each screenful of information
  55.  
  56.     where <usage.USE> is the name of the usage file, default is TM.USE,
  57.     <phone.FON> is the name of the phone directory, default is TM.FON and
  58.     <ddd> refers to the last <ddd> days to report on. The '/LD' option
  59.     estimates how much it cost if <nnn.nn> dollar per minute is charged in
  60.     long distance service. The '/p' option pauses the display after
  61.     each screenful of information.

  63.     For example, if you would like  TMSTAT to compile a report with long
  64.     distance evaluation on your usage for the past week you would type at
  65.     the DOS command line:

  67.           TMStat TM.USE /7 /LD0.25 /p

  69.     Below is a sample report for a 10 day period. Almost everything in
  70.     the report is self-explanatory, but a few comments are added in the
  71.     brackets [ ].

  122. The Long Distance Flag in TM.FON
  123. ────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────

  125.     Telemate Version 3.0 and higher has a 'Long Distance' flag in the phone
  126.     directory. TMStat checks the flag to determine if it is a long
  127.     distance phone call. In the example above, 'Southern Reaches' does
  128.     not have the flag set in TM.FON, so the LD field appears blank.

  130.     IMPORTANT: Edits your phone directory and sets the flags for all long
  131.                distance entries. Otherwise, TMStat will not report the
  132.                LD cost correctly.

  135. More About Long Distance Charge Calculation
  136. ────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────

  138.     Although the /LDnnn.nn option gives you an approximate amount of your
  139.     phone bill, you may want to calculate the cost according to the phone
  140.     company discount rate in different hour of a day or different day
  141.     of a week. In addition, different areas may have differents rates.
  142.  
  143.     You can provide these information in the optional TMSTAT.CFG. If
  144.     the file is present, TMSTAT.EXE will use it to calculate the long
  145.     distance charge. The format of TMSTAT.CFG is as follows:
  146.  
  147.     1. Lines start with a '%' are comments. For example,
  148.  
  149.             % This is my TMSTAT.CFG

  153.     2. There should be a line starting with '>'. This line is the cost
  154.        specification for all boards unless there is other specification for
  155.        a particular board. This line will be overrided by the 'LDnnn.nn' if
  156.        present.

  158.        The format of the cost specification after the '>' is
  159.  
  160.             cost [SAT cost] [SUN cost]
  161.  
  162.        The [SAT cost] and [SUN cost] fields are optional which represent
  163.        the cost specification of Saturday and Sunday respectively.

  165.        The <cost> field can be further divided into several sub-fields:

  167.             common_cost [the_hour:cost_per_minute] [...]
  168.             common_cost [from_hour-to_hour:cost_per_minute] [...]

  170.        The first sub-field is the cost per minute of the day unless
  171.        otherwise specified. For example,
  172.             > 0.4
  173.        denotes a $0.40 per minute for the day.

  175.        The following sub-fields are optional. They can be of two formats.
  176.        The first format is
  177.             the_hour:cost_per_minute
  178.        which denotes the cost is <cost_per_minute> for every minute of
  179.        <the_hour>. <the_hour> is in 24 hour format. For example,
  180.             > 0.4 22:0.25
  181.        denotes a $0.40 per minute for the day except the hour from 10:00pm
  182.        to 10:59pm which is $0.25 per minute.

  185.             from_hour-to_hour:cost_per_minute
  186.        allows you to specify a range of hours. For example,
  187.             > 0.4 0-7:0.25 20-22:0.25
  188.        denotes a $0.40 per minute for the day except the hours from 12:00am
  189.        to 7:59am and 8:00pm to 22:59pm which is $0.25 per minute.

  191.        You can mix the two formats in one line. For example,
  192.             > 0.4 0-7:0.25 20-22:0.25 23:0.2
  193.        which is almost the same as the previous example except that it is
  194.        $0.20 per minute for the hour 11:00pm to 11:59pm.

  196.        Phone companies usually offer a lower rate on Saturday and Sunday.
  197.        For example,
  198.             > 0.4 SAT 0.3 SUN 0.2
  199.        denotes a $0.40 per minute from Monday to Friday, $0.30 on Saturday
  200.        and $0.20 on Sunday. This is a simple example, but you can apply
  201.        the optional sub-fields to the cost specification of Saturday
  202.        and Sunday too.

  206.     3. To specify the cost for a particular board:

  210.        The <board name> should be an exact match with the one in the usage
  211.        file TM.USE. But it need not be in your phone directory TM.FON.

  213.             User To User > 0.4 SAT 0.3 SUN 0.25
  214.        denotes the cost specification for the board 'User To User'.

  216.        You can have as many specifications as you like.
