  24.  Zip Control is a 32-bit threaded OS/2 PM software program which
  25.  provides "point & click" access to Info-ZIP's freeware Zip and
  26.  UnZip and to PKWARE's PKZIP for OS/2 2.50+. The programs Zip.exe,
  27.  UnZip.exe, and PKZIP.exe are used by many OS/2 users to manage
  28.  .zip archives. Zip, UnZip, and PKZIP are command line programs
  29.  which create and unzip archive files which are compatible with
  30.  PKWARE's zip archive files. Additionally, the Info-ZIP programs
  31.  and PKWARE's PKZIP for OS/2 2.50+ support OS/2's long file names
  32.  and extended attributes.

  40.  copyrighted software product of RPF Software for which a license
  41.  fee must be paid. Info-ZIP and RPF Software are independent

  44.  Zip Control is copyrighted software, it is NOT PUBLIC DOMAIN, it is
  45.  NOT FREE.  You may use an Evaluation copy of Zip Control for a
  46.  reasonable evaluation period (21 days) to see if it is software
  47.  which is helpful to you and which you wish to continue using. If
  48.  you do decide to continue using an Evaluation version of Zip Control,
  49.  you MUST secure a license to use Zip Control by filling out the form
  50.  in ORDER.TXT and sending it along with the license fee to RPF
  51.  Software or to one of the other Order locations for Zip Control
  52.  (see "Where" below), unless you have already licensed Zip Control
  53.  and have received a Zip Control License Key.

  183.    Info-ZIP's Zip.exe and UnZip.exe

  185.    The Zip Control product delivery includes Zip.exe, UnZip.exe, and
  186.    UnZipSFX.exe from the Info-ZIP group. There are no extra charges or
  187.    costs due to the inclusion of this code. Info-ZIP's Zip and UnZip
  188.    software is available as freeware on the Internet at various sites
  189.    (including http://www.cdrom.com/pub/infozip/), many BBSs which
  190.    have OS/2 libraries, on the IBM NSC BBS, and on CompuServe
  191.    (OS2USER forum, Library 4 for UNZnnn.EXE and ZIPnnn.ZIP).

  193.  Installation
  194.  ------------
  195.  Zip Control may be easily installed by running the included Install.exe
  196.  program after unzipping to a new, temporary directory. The installation
  197.  program will request the drive and directory in which Zip Control
  198.  should be installed. The directory will be created if it does not exist.
  199.  
  200.  Zip Control Desktop objects (folder, program references) may be
  201.  installed by the installation program, at the user's option.
  202.  
  203.  One entry will be placed in the OS2.INI file:  the installation directory
  204.  for Zip Control. This entry will be used (and removed) if the "Remove"
  205.  (Zip Control) option of the Install program is later selected.
  206.  
  207.  Zip Control will store user preferences in the ZipCntrl.ini file which
  208.  is created in the Zip Control directory the first time that Zip Control
  209.  is used. Additionally, the customer-unique Zip Control License Key will
  210.  be stored in the ZipCntrl.ini file so that the License Key will not
  211.  need to be re-entered for subsequent updates.
  212.  
  213.  No changes to the Config.sys file will be made by Zip Control or the
  214.  installation program. No hidden files are created by Zip Control. The
  215.  Evaluation version of Zip Control is not limited in any way, other
  216.  than a beginning "unlicensed" message.
  217.

  223.  Operation of Zip Control
  224.  ------------------------
  225.  Run Zip Control by either double clicking on the Zip Control
  226.  object on the desktop OR by dragging one or more .zip files
  227.  to the Zip Control desktop object (using the right mouse
  228.  button). If multiple .zip files are dragged to the Zip Control
  229.  object, multiple versions of Zip Control will be started, each
  230.  displayed on top of the other. You can then use these to perform
  231.  simultaneous unzips or to investigate the various .zip files,
  232.  comparing dates of zipped files, and viewing zipped files.
  233.  
  234.  If an "association" is established for *.zip files to the Zip
  235.  Control desktop object, Zip Control can be started by double
  236.  clicking .zip files displayed using the Drives object. To
  237.  establish the association (If the Install.exe program was not
  238.  used to install Zip Control), open the Settings window for the
  239.  Zip Control desktop object and select the "Association" page
  240.  (tab). In the lower section of the page, enter "*.zip"
  241.  (without the quotes) in the "New Name" field. Then select "Add."
  242.  
  243.  If there had been a previous association established with another
  244.  program, that association should be removed from either the other
  245.  program's desktop object OR from the other program's .EXE file (via
  246.  the Drives object), before establishing a new association with Zip
  247.  Control.  To determine whether a previous association is in effect
  248.  and to what program or object, do a right mouse button click on a
  249.  Drives listing of a .zip file, then select the arrow to the right
  250.  of "Open."  Any current associations will be listed.
  251.  
  252.  Use the "Paths" page of the "Settings" notebook in Zip Control
  253.  to define the path where .zip files will usually be found,
  254.  such as C:\DOWNLOAD. Also, define a default output directory,
  255.  such as C:\SCRATCH and a work location directory.  If you do not
  256.  define a Work Location, the default work location directory will
  257.  be set to the drive on which zipcntrl.ini resides. The work
  258.  location directory should be on a disk drive with sufficient
  259.  free disk space for Zip.exe's use in creating its temporary files.
  260.  The amount of free disk space should be larger than the largest
  261.  .zip file you will be creating or modifying. A change in Work
  262.  Location does not take effect until restarting Zip Control.
  263.  
  264.  Note: A subdirectory, ~ZipWork, of the work location directory
  265.  is used for Zip Control temporary files created when using "View",
  266.  "Print", "New", "Add", and "Delete". The temporary files should be
  267.  automatically cleaned up. However, if they are not automatically
  268.  deleted, you may delete them at any time. The temporary files
  269.  should all be located in the ~ZipWork subdirectory.
  270.  
  271.  Error Messages
  272.  --------------
  273.  - Most users find Zip Control easy to use and license the software
  274.    without reporting any problems. However, other users may have a
  275.    different operating environment or may use Zip Control with .zip
  276.    files where Zip.exe, UnZip.exe, or PKZIP.exe send Zip Control
  277.    error messages. In those cases, the ZC users will see a general
  278.    error message from ZC which offers to display the error message
  279.    reported by Zip.exe, UnZip.exe, or PKZIP.exe. It further offers
  280.    to display additional information which you may wish to report
  281.    to RPF Software.
  282.  
  283.    At that point RPF Software duplicates the problem and, if the
  284.    problem is caused by Zip Control, makes the necessary software
  285.    repairs to properly handle the problem.  A new version of ZC is
  286.    then made available.
  287.  
  288.  - When the error message offers to display the specific error message
  289.    as reported by zip.exe or unzip.exe, this alerts alert you to a
  290.    possible problem with the .zip file with which you are working.
