  9. SECURE comes in two different shapes and sizes, one for
  10. the  electronic mail  program Eudora, and the other for
  11. the Windows desk-top.

  13. SECURE Plug-In will only work with Eudora, while SECURE
  14. Desk-Top will work  with  every electronic mail program
  15. and all other MS Windows applications

  35. * How does SECURE work?
  36.  
  37. SECURE uses some of the strongest encryption algorithms
  38. available today. It is an easy to  use security program
  39. that works  on  the MS Windows  platform.  SECURE  uses
  40. symmetrical  encryption, that is one key for encryption
  41. and decryption.
  42.  
  43. The  program was specificall designed to be easy to use
  44. and to  understand.  There  are  no public keys to deal
  45. with, only your  own  private key.  You can protect all
  46. types of data using SECURE  whether it  be  your e-mail
  47. communications inside the  company, your personal files
  48. on your  hard disk,  or  for communicating  accross the
  49. internet with encrypted text and file attachments.

  52. * What versions of Eudora work with the SECURE Plug-In?
  53.  
  54. SECURE Plug-In will work  with all  16 bit versions  of
  55. Eudora. We've been able to test on Eudora Light as well
  56. as Eudora Pro for the Windows platform.

  58. The  Macintosh  platform is  not yet supported, our Mac
  59. versions  are  expected  later on  in the  year, around
  60. September 1996

  63. * Is SECURE compatibile with Win'95?
  64.  
  65. SECURE  Plug-In will work on the Win95 platform running
  66. on  Eudora  Pro or Light  (16 bit only).   Please check
  67. regularly on the web site for the 32 bit SECURE Plug-In
  68.  
  69. SECURE Desk-Top is completely compatible with the Win95
  70. platform.   It  is a 16 bit  application  but has  been
  71. throughly tested on both the 16 and 32 bit platforms.

  73. Both   SECURE  Plug-In  and  SECURE  Desk-Top  will  be
  74. available in the  16 bit and 32 bit  editions.  For the

  78. * What algorithms are used in SECURE?
  79.  
  80. There  are three specific algorithms used in the SECURE
  81. products. There are 2 encrytion and one compression
  82. algorithm.

  84. The encryption algorithms are:
  85. DES: Data Encryption Standard
  86. Invented  in the seventies by IBM research labs, DES is
  87. recognised   worldwide  by  governments  and  financial
  88. institutions  as an encryption standard. Widely used in
  89. everything from  UNIX to Hardware keys. DES uses 56 bit
  90. keys to encrypt and decrypt data.

  92. IDEA: International Data Encryption Algorithm
  93. The  IDEA algorithm  was a result of a joint project of
  94. the  Swiss Federal Institute  of  Technology Zurich and 
  95. Ascom Systec  with the  expressed  purpose of replacing 
  96. the DES approach.  IDEA  is comprised of  a symmetrical 
  97. block cipher with a 64-bit block  length and a  128-bit
  98. key.

  100. The compression algorithm is:
  101. A generic data compression algorithm. Before  any  data
  102. is encrypted,  SECURE first  compresses the data  using 
  103. this  rather  strong algorithm.  Because  the  data  is 
  104. first compressed then  encrypted, the  actual  task  of
  105. hacking the data is that much less possible.

  108. * How strong are the encryption algorithms?
  109.  
  110. Well let's say, never before broken! Both of the crypto
  111. algorithms  are  published  codes,   they   have   been 
  112. investigated and inspected by the best in the industry.
  113.  
  114. Both  of  the crypto algorithms used in SECURE are also 
  115. used  in other  products and  they  meet  international
  116. standards for data security and integrety.
  117.  
  118. Rest  assured  the  encryption algorithms in SECURE are 
  119. good for at least another 5 to 8 years.

  122. * Can I use SECURE outside of the United States and Canada?
  123.  
  124. Because  SECURE  is  totally engineered and distributed
  125. from norther Italy the  product  doesn't need to comply 
  126. with US export regulations.  SECURE  can be used in the 
  127. United States and Canada and it can also be used in all 
  128. it's full strength out-side these countries as well.

  130. This means you get strong encryption (128 bit keys) for
  131. use anywhere in the world, and not the 40 bit key
  132. limited stuff available else where!

  134. There  are  however  re-xport restrictions on SECURE in 
  135. some  countries, so please check with local authorities 
  136. before sending a copy to a friend!

  139. * I forgot my password, are there any secret keys?
  140.  
  141. Don't  forget  your  password!  There are no back doors
  142. inside SECURE. We have  only  used published encryption
  143. algorithms inside the SECURE  products, so there are no
  144. back  doors.  If you  lose  your  key  to open either a
  145. secured database or to unlock some encrypted data, then
  146. the data will be lost. There  are  no  possibilities to
  147. regain the lost information,  only  if you remember the
  148. key

  152. * Is it free or do I need to purchase a license?
  153.  
  154. SECURE is distributed entirely via the internet.  It is
  155. available in evaluation copies from  our  internet site
  156. and all new versions and  info  are placed there first.
  157. You have a  30  day  evaluation period, if you like the
  158. SECURE  software  and intend to continue using it, then
  159. you must purchase a license.

  161. So,  the  answer  is,  it's  NOT FREE.  It's commercial
  162. software, but you have the chance to  truly Try  Before
  163. You Buy.
