  10. The 1-2-3 and Freelance File Translator converts spreadsheet and
  11. presentation graphics files between the OS/2 and Windows file
  12. formats. You can convert to and from the 1-2-3 WG2 and WK4 file
  13. formats, and to and from the Freelance PRS and PRE file formats.
  14.  
  15. The File Translator converts .WG2 files created using 1-2-3 for
  16. OS/2 Release 2.x and .WK4 files created using 1-2-3 for Windows
  17. Release 4.x or 5.x. It converts data and worksheet styles and
  18. retains most formulas, @functions, fonts, borders, and colors.
  19.  
  20. The File Translator converts the .PRS files created using
  21. Freelance Graphics for OS/2 Release 2.x and .PRE files created
  22. using Freelance Graphics for Windows Release 2.1. It converts
  23. data and SmartMaster styles and retains most fonts, borders, and
  24. colors.

  26. NOTE: The 1-2-3 and Freelance File Translator will not convert 
  27. .PRZ files created using Freelance Graphics 96 Edition.

  32. Windows version of the File Translator - Installation Instructions

  36. You can copy the File Translator files to a local or network.

  39. - To copy the files

  42. 1. Start Windows Explorer. 
  43.     - Click the Start button.
  44.     - Point to Programs.

  47. 2. Copy the File Translator files from the x:\extra\trans directory 
  48. (where x: is the drive letter for the CD-ROM drive) on the 
  49. SmartSuite CD to the directory where SmartSuite is installed 
  50. (usually c:\lotus).

  53.     - Click the Trans folder (x:\extra\trans).
  54.     - Choose Edit / Copy.
  55.     - Click the Lotus folder (c:\lotus).

  63. double-click the icon to start the File Translator.

  152. entire file. However, where there are differences in
  153. functionality between the 1-2-3 for OS/2 and 1-2-3 for Windows
  154. releases, some content may be disregarded or altered during the
  155. translation process.

  165. Colors may not be identical when the files are converted. Since
  166. 1-2-3 for Windows supports 256 colors and 1-2-3 for OS/2
  167. supports 16, the File Translator adjusts the colors to most
  168. closely match the original colors.

  174. Column widths may not be identical when the files are converted.
  175. Since 1-2-3 for Windows and 1-2-3 for OS/2 calculate column
  176. widths differently, the File Translator converts column widths
  177. based on the default font and the width of the column in inches
  178. or centimeters, not on the width of the characters.

  184. DDE links are not maintained, since link commands in 1-2-3 for
  185. Windows and 1-2-3 for OS/2 are implemented in different ways.

  203. Roman, and Courier. It converts other fonts into available fonts

  210. The File Translator does not convert bitmaps, metafiles, or
  211. other graphics embedded in the worksheet.

  218. disregards graph names in a .WK4 file, since there is no
  219. equivalent functionality in 1-2-3 for OS/2.

  222. separate .GPH files.

  228. The File Translator does not convert macro commands.  All macros
  229. are treated as labels and they are unaltered during the
  230. translation process.

  234. identical.

  241. password-protected. You must remove the passwords in the files

  290. 1-2-3 for Windows releases 4 and 5 have many new @functions that

  292. source file is not recognized, the File Translator places a
  293. label in the corresponding cell in the .WG2 file. The label is
  294. appended with a semicolon and the value: '@function
  295. name(arguments);current value (last calculated value saved in
  296. source file).

  298. You can find cells that contain '@ and decide whether to leave
  299. the label or use the current value.

  305. Some style elements in 1-2-3 for Windows, such as Designer
  306. Frames, are not available in 1-2-3 for OS/2.  The File
  307. Translator disregards such elements.

  540. Freelance Graphics for OS/2 does not support screen-show
  541. buttons. When the File Translator converts a PRE file to a PRS
  542. file, screen-show buttons are lost.
