SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
Computer: IBM 386 - 20 Mhz (or 100% compatible) with 4 MB of Ram, Mouse,
Monitor with a VGA graphics system, MS-DOS version 5.0 or higher.
Warcraft supports all major sound cards.
INSTALLATION AND SETUP
To install Warcraft, type "INSTALL [Enter]" at the DOS prompt and follow the
onscreen instructions. To configure Warcraft for your computer, go to the
WARCRAFT directory and type "SETUP [Enter]" at the DOS prompt.
To run the game, type "WAR [Enter]" at the DOS prompt.
HOW TO PLAY
Warcraft uses a mouse driven "point and click" system to do all functions
from building structures to commanding units. The keyboard can also be used
to issue commands.
Warcraft is comprised of Units and Structures. The basic unit is the Peasant,
who can harvest lumber, mine gold, and build and repair structures. These
units are trained through the Town Hall, and are invaluable in creating a
strong city.
Farms are the basic structure that keep your town alive. You may not have
more units trained than you have food available from your farms. To check
on how much food is available, select any farm, and your total production
will be displayed.
BUILDING STRUCTURES
Select a Peasant. Then move the arrow over the Build Basic Structure icon and
select this option. This will open the Basic Structure selections. Move the
mouse over the Structure icons, and select the type of structure you wish to
build. A pulsing white box will appear on the Command Map representing the
amount of space required for this structure.
There are, however, three restrictions on building:
1. There must ample space available in explored territory
for the structure to be built.
2. Any structure must be built next to a cobbled road.
3. Structures must be built near other buildings.
HARVESTING RESOURCES
Select a Peasant, and then choose the Harvest lumber/mine gold command.
Your cursor will change into a set of crosshairs that you will use to select
the site you wish to harvest/mine (trees for lumber/mines for gold). The
Peasant will move there automatically, and will also bring the gathered
resources back to the Town Hall on his own, until all the resources are
depleted in that area, or you command him to stop.
COMBAT
Military Units are trained through a Barracks, which can be built by Peasants.
Choose the military unit you wish to command. While the unit is selected,
choose the Attack icon. Your cursor will change into a set of crosshairs
that you will use to select the target you wish to engage. Your unit will
automatically fight the target until one or the other is dead. If there are
other enemy units in the immediate vicinity, your unit may move to engage
them as well. You can always select the Stop command for the unit and Move
away in retreat if you wish.
GROUPING UNITS
It is sometimes desirable to give the same command to a group of units.
The units do not have to be of the same type for grouping to take effect.
However, if the units are of dissimilar types, they may lose some of their
functions (such as attack, or harvest) until ungrouped. To group units,
select a unit, then hold down the shift key and select another unit. You may
group up to four units in this way. You may also hold down the Ctrl key on
the keyboard and drag the mouse over up to four units to select them.
