Update report of Thunderbyte Anti-Virus utilities for Windows 95.
Prefixes:
'-' indicates a change that does not require user attention.
'->' indicates a modification that requires user attention, such as a
change in program invocation, etc.
7.01 Product update
-------------------
General notes:
- Over 200 new signatures added!
- We have added a new PGP key to our distribution archive,
ESaSS.PGP. It is recommended to add this key to your
keyring. If you want to send us viruses, we recommend
that you use this key to encrypt the files.
TBAV for Windows 95:
-> We have developed a full-featured VxD that makes it possible to
intercept all file I/O, including accessing floppy disks etc.
With this VxD, TBAV for Windows 95 is able to scan the bootsector
of a floppy disk, or a file that you are copying or downloading
on-the-fly!
-> TBAV for Windows 95 now contains several security options. You can
disable a lot of items that are really meant for advanced
users. System administrators can now disable some of the advanced
TBAV for Windows 95 features for novice users using the TBAV for
Windows 95 security settings. Check out the item called
'Security Options' in the TBAV for Windows 95 'Options' menu.
Please note that the security options are available for
registered users only.
-> We've built in several options to activate TBAV for Windows 95
when Windows 95 boots. You can configure the auto-load sequence of
TBAV from within TBAV for Windows 95, and you can specify a target
file that you want to be scanned when Windows 95 boots. Please take
a look at the new 'TBAV boot options' menu item in the 'Options'
menu.
-> The Automatic Update Feature, known from TBAV for Windows 3.x, has
been implemented in TBAV for Windows 95. You can alter its settings
by editing the accompanying TbLoad.Ini file, or by using the
'Automatic update feature' item in the TBAV for Windows 95 'Options'
menu. Please note that the automatic update feature is available
for registered users only.
-> A new TBAV-for-Networks interface module has been developed for
TBAV for Windows 95. In other words, TBAV for Networks can now be
used to manage workstations that run solely with Windows 95.
Contact you ThunderBYTE reseller for more information about TBAV
for Networks.
-> TBAV for Windows 95 is now able to play waveform sound files when
a virus is detected; however, the default setting of TBAV for
Windows 95 is to produce the standard 'beep' sound. You can use
the 'Options|TBAV for Windows 95 configuration' menu item to
select a .WAV file to be played (for example, you can choose
the SIREN.WAV file distributed with TBAV for Windows 95).
- We implemented memory scan! When TBAV for Windows 95 is launched,
the first 640 Kb of memory (memory used by DOS programs) is scanned
for resident viruses.
- This new release enables you to choose another document viewer
than Microsoft's NotePad.
- TBAV for Windows 95 now detects changes in .BIN files whenever
a checksum file was created of such files.
- The default action in the 'Virus Found' dialog is now to rename
the infected file, instead of continuing the scan. Furthermore,
the options 'Delete', 'Kill', 'Rename' and 'Validate' are disabled
when the virus is located on a CD-Rom drive.
- We solved some annoying bugs in the TBAV scan engine that caused
TBAV for Windows 95 to hang in some strange situations. The same
changes result in more accurate virus detection.
TBAV for Windows 95 Setup:
-> The TBAV for Windows 95 Setup program now automatically creates
Anti-Vir.Dat checksum files, and scans you local drives for viruses.
- It is now possible to translate the default targets.
- The question whether or not you want TBAV for Windows 95 to be
loaded when Windows 95 boots has been removed. You can configure
the auto-load options of TBAV within the program itself.
TBAV for Windows 95 Uninstaller:
- The uninstaller has been enhanched: when executed, it will search
all local disks for Anti-Vir.Dat files, and remove those files.
