A fully functional working version of the NuGraf Rendering System is available for immediate download. It is only limited in the following manner:
A small "NuGraf Demo" bitmap will appear in the lower-left cornerrof all rendered images,* In demo mode # 1 there is no limitation to the size of rendered images but black vertical bars will be drawn over top of renderedimages at wide intervals,* In demo mode # 2 rendered images will be limited to a resolutionof 180x135 pixels. No black vertical bars will be drawn over top of the images,
* Photo-realistic renderings using the OpenGL realtime renderer will
be limited to 30000 polygons,
* Files which are exported to other file formats (3D Studio, VRML,Wavefront, etc) will have every 5th polygon removed,
* NuGraf scenes cannot be saved to disk.
Program requirements:
* Windows 95, Windows NT, or 16-bit Windows 3.1/3.11 using Win32s.
* Preferably 16Mb of memory.
* 256 color or better video card.
320Mb of free hard disk space.
Although the NuGraf software is usable under 16-bit Windows 3.1/3.11 we find that the performance is not nearly as good as when the software runs under Windows NT or Windows 95. In addition, we cannot
guarantee the robustness of the NuGraf software at this time due to the rather unstable nature of the "Win32s" operating system extension required to run the 32-bit NuGraf software under 16-bit Windows. If you own Windows 3.1 and find that you like the NuGraf software then we highly recommend that you upgrade to Windows 95 or Windows NT prior to purchasing the software.
Large verse Small Version Demo
You have two choices to make when downloading the NuGraf demo:* Download all 9 diskettes (12MB). This will install all files thatare normally distributed along with the software.* or, download and install a single 5Mb file which consists of thecore NuGraf software minus the online help, the texture images, the material libraries and some larger 3d scene files. You can optionally download and install these missing files now or at any time in the future when you require them.
Both variations will ultimately allow you to install the full version of the NuGraf Rendering System software, however the second variation requires more work on your behalf whereas the first variation installs the complete program in one pass.
If you will be installing the demo under the older 16-bit Windows 3.1 or Windows for Workgroups operating systems then it is recommended that you download the latest 1.30 release of the Win32s operating system extension from the Microsoft FTP site (this software allows 32-bit application programs to be run under 16-bit Windows). The program, pw1118.exe is located in your directory.
Downloading the Smaller NuGraf Demo
The smaller version of the demonstration program is split up into multiple files such that you really only have to download a single file (6Mb) to get the NuGraf software up and running. If you find the basic NuGraf software interesting then you have the option of downloading the remaining 5.8Mb of files as an additional 4 files.
To install the basic NuGraf demo software run the nugrafsm.exe program and follow the prompts.
In addition, you have the choice of downloading the following files now or after you have installed the basic demo (as described above). The following files are listed in order of importance:
Scene Files (1.5k download size) Texture image library (1.3Mb download size)[Online help (7Mb uncompressed, 2.1Mb download size) Material library files (800k download size)
It is highly recommended that you download all of these files in order
to fully evaluate the NuGraf software (in particular the "scenes" and
"Help" files).
Once these secondary files have been downloaded, place them in the
directory where the NuGraf software was installed (usually "\Program
Files\nugraf") and type:
pkunzip -e -d file.zip
where 'file.zip' should be replaced by one of: textures.zip,
scenes.zip, material.zip or help.zip. The .zip file(s) can be deleted
once they have been un-zipped. DO NOT FORGET TO USE THE '-d' FLAG!!
If you require 3d rendering capabilities as well as 3d datatranslation functionality then the NuGraf Rendering System is thepreferred product (it contains all of the functionality of PolyTransplus more).
The NuGraf Rendering System software is an interactive rendering, visualization, scene composition and 3d data translation program for Microsoft® WindowsTM 3.1, 95 and NT. Typical users ofthe software include: Engineers, mechanical designers and industrial designers whowould like to create photo-realistic images of 3d models exportedfrom 3d design packages such as Pro/Engineer&Architects and CAD/CAM users who require fast and robust visualization of complex files exported from such favorite design
packages as AutoCAD®</b>, DataCAD®</b> andDesignCAD-3D®</b> Medical visualization specialists whorequire the ability to import and photo-realistically render 3d data from a variety of input data sources Interior designers andfurniture manufactures who require a versatile visualization environment Internet WEB page designers who need to createnicely rendered extruded logos. It's easy with NuGraf! Gamedevelopers for use in scene composition and accurate 3d datatranslation, or in general any 3d computer graphics user whorequires highly accurate 3d model translation (VRML 2.0 is nowsupported!). GIS users who require the ability to import andinteractively manipulate huge (1:1) USGS DEM data sets Teachers and professors who would like to teach the concepts of 3d graphics and rendering to their studentsThe program products sport ultra-fast, "photo-realistic" 3drendering technology which allow huge and complex 3D scenes tobe rendered quickly on machines with only moderate resources.
