  14. "The Music Box" provides computer users with the ability to improve
  15. their listening skills without the help of another person.  
  16. Traditionally, ear training has required at least two people, 
  17. one to play the dictation and one to take the dictation 
  18. (write it down).  With "The Music Box", you can practice 
  19. intervals, triads, sevenths, rhythms, scales, modes and 
  20. melodies by using the computer.  
  21.  
  22. "The Music Box" allows you to configure the 
  23. dictation sequences from the easiest melody to the most 
  24. complex.  Beginners or advanced music students, 
  25. children or adults will all find a setting that 
  26. is correct for them. You donÆt even need music paper, you 
  27. can take dictation by pointing and clicking on the screen 
  28. as the computer plays. If you prefer music paper, the program 
  29. will print a sheet for you. With Version 2.6, you can even 
  30. create melodies in the treble or bass clef!

  32. Setup instructions for the mbox3226.zip file:

  34. 1. Unzip the file into the directory of your choice.
  35.  
  36. You should find four files in the directory:
  37.  
  38.    musbox32.exe
  39.    musbox32.hlp
  40.    tips.txt
  41.    readme.txt
  42.  
  43. 2. Double click on the file musbox32.exe to run the program.
  44.  
  45. To make shortcut for your desktop, do the following:
  46.  
  47. 1. After unzipping the file, click the musbox32.exe file with the
  48.    right mouse button.
  49. 2. Select the menu item, 'Create Shortcut' from the popup menu.
  50. 3. When you release the mouse, a shortcut will appear in the
  51.    directory.
  52. 4. Press the 'Ctrl' key down and drag and drop the shortcut
  53.    to your desktop.  
  54. 5. Now, just doubleclick on the shortcut from your desktop to
  55.    launch The Music Box.

  57. To add the program to your 'Programs' menu in Windows 95:
  58.  
  59. 1. Select the Start button with your right mouse button.
  60. 2. Choose Open.
  61. 3. Choose the 'Programs' folder.
  62. 4. Under 'File' choose 'New Shortcut'.
  63. 5. Use the Browse button to find musbox32.exe and select it.
  64. 6. This should add the program to your 'Programs' list.

  66. The Music Box is shareware.  The shareware distribution system 
  67. relies on users to share the unregistered demonstration version
  68. of the program.  You may make copies of the unregistered version and 
  69. share it with anyone you feel may be interested in the program. 
  70. The demonstration version of the program does limit 
  71. choices for some dictation components but fully illustrates 
  72. the power of the program.  After a trial period, you may purchase 
  73. the fully functional version of the program by registering 
  74. with Carner Enterprises (the registered version may NOT be 
  75. copied and distributed).

  78. complete instructions on how to register directly or with a credit
  79. card.
