  6. This screen saver will work only with Windows 95 and Windows NT.

  10. A Walk In The Woods Screen Saver contains 32 images in the registered 
  11. version.  The Shareware version brings you 4 of these images using the 
  12. same fully-functional screen saver engine used to control the registered 
  13. version.  If you decide you want to continue using this software you 
  14. should register the program by purchasing the commercial version at any of 
  15. our electronic store outlets where it is offered for electronic download at
  16. the very reasonable price of US$10.00 (or thereabouts).  The registered
  17. version can also be purchased for the same low price directly at our own
  18. website, http://www.damselsoftware.com .

  21. 1.  MINIMUM SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
  22.  
  23. A video display board with a minimum of 512K RAM and 256-color capability 
  24. for display on a VGA or SVGA monitor is essential for reasonable viewing of 
  25. these images.  Damsel recommends the use of High-color (16-bit) or True-color
  26. (24-bit) display settings for optimal viewing of these images.
  27.  
  28. Note: this screen saver is shipped with the transition effect set at NONE.  
  29. Be advised that on systems using a 256-color setting all transition effects
  30. other than NONE begin by displaying the prior image as an array looking like 
  31. colored sand.  This is an effect caused by the change of optimized color 
  32. palettes from image to image.  This odd effect will not occur when using the 
  33. true (24-bit) color settings available on high end graphics cards.

  35. To access these choices press the Settings button of your Control Panel/
  36. Display/Screen Saver dialog box.
  37.  
  38. You will need an IBM-compatible PC with a 486 or higher-type microprocessor,
  39. 8MB RAM, and a hard disk with 5MB free disk space.

  41. This screen saver is designed for Windows 95 and individual Windows NT 
  42. workstations.  This product WILL NOT run on earlier versions of Windows.

  45. 2.  INSTALLING YOUR SHAREWARE PRODUCT
  46.  
  47. Once unzipped your download should contain the following five files:

  49. setup.exe
  50. setup.ini
  51. setup.sa1
  52. readme.txt
  53. license.txt

  55. To install your screen saver either double-click on the setup.exe file 
  56. from within Windows Explorer or use START\Run\[downloaded location path]\
  57. setup.exe ENTER, from Win95's Desktop Taskbar. You will be guided 
  58. through the rest of the installation by an Installation Wizard which 
  59. will make the entire process painless.  You will be able to review 
  60. both the readme.txt and license.txt file from within this process
  61. automatically.

  85. 4.  A WALK IN THE WOODS SHAREWARE IMAGE LIST

  88. The four images listed here are taken from the 32-image full version.  The 
  89. text below provides a brief description of the location and subject of each 
  90. image.
  91.  
  92. 1.  Columbine, Beaver Pond, Bear Brook State Park, Allenstown-Deerfield, 
  93. NH --- Columbines are beautiful in their natural forest setting, but don't
  94. try to dig them up and transplant them.  They know what you're doing and
  95. won't help out.  Live free or die.  They probably wrote New Hampshire's
  96. state motto.  A lover of rocky woods (plentiful in NH), and sloped terrain
  97. (also plentiful in NH), these members of the buttercup family grow on 1 to
  98. 2 foot stalks above smaller compound leaves.  Their drooping bells sway in
  99. the breeze each with five long curving spurs.

  101. 2. Proteus Falls, Gorham, NH --- This falls is the lowest of three small 
  102. waterfalls located on Town Line Brook on the northeastern lower slopes of 
  103. 5367' Mt. Madison.  In the 1990's several broad fallen tree trunks have 
  104. blocked some of the upper reaches of these falls.  See Erebus Falls for 
  105. directions.

  107. Erebus Falls, Gorham, NH --- (Not included in this screen saver, but text
  108. copied for ref to Proteus Falls)  This falls is the middle of three small 
  109. waterfalls located on Town Line Brook on the northeastern lower slopes of 
  110. 5367' Mt. Madison, the northernmost peak of the Presidential Range.  All 
  111. three are a short .2 mile walk up Town Line Brook Trail which leaves Pinkham 
  112. B road near the height of land 2.5 miles from the road's southern terminus 
  113. with NH Rte. 16 at the northern end of the Dolly Copp National Forest 
  114. Campground, or 1.5 miles south from US Rte. 2 in Randolph, NH.  The falls' 
  115. dark secluded location likens itself to the Erebus of Greek mythology, the 
  116. dark ether through which souls traveled at death to Hades.

  118. 3. Black-capped Chickadee, Brockway Preserve, Hopkinton, NH --- The 
  119. chickadee gained its name from its song, chick-a-dee-dee-dee which can be
  120. heard in mixed and deciduous woods from Alaska to Newfoundland south to
  121. the middle latitudes of the United States and further south in mountainous 
  122. areas.  This member of the titmice family has a northern relative in the
  123. Boreal Chickadee and a southern relative, the Carolina Chickadee.

  125. 4. Smith Pond Bog, Hopkinton, NH --- The mist from the bog rises through
  126. the adjacent forest.  This ASNH Wildlife Sanctuary is not strictly a bog in
  127. that there is both an inlet and an outlet.  The water flow brings nutrients
  128. and oxygen which permit a larger variety of both plant and animal life to
  129. exist, flushing out the acidic water common to true bogs.  Beaver period-
  130. ically dam up the outlet from Smith Pond, killing trees and maintaining 
  131. Beaver Marsh, filled with grasses, bulrushes and cattails.  The borders of 
  132. the marsh are populated by Red Maples, and the entire ecosystem attracts 
  133. Mallard, Black, and Wood Ducks, herons, Red-winged Blackbirds, and other 
  134. songbirds, and aquatic mammals.  Call the Audubon Society for directions 
  135. from this central NH town, 603-224-9909.

  138. 5. UNINSTALLING YOUR SCREEN SAVER

  140. This screen saver comes complete with an uninstall feature.  Simply go to
  141. the Add/Remove icon found in your Control Panel and you will find this
  142. screen saver listed.  Follow the normal Windows instructions for removal
  143. of the program.
