  32. Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software before buying it.
  33. If you try a Shareware program and continue using it, you are required to
  34. register it (or purchase the licensed version as in the case of
  35. Paint Shop Pro).

  37. Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and retail software, and the
  38. copyright holder retains all rights, with a few specific exceptions as stated
  39. below. Shareware authors are accomplished programmers, just like retail
  40. authors, and the programs are of comparable quality. (In both cases, there are
  41. good programs and bad ones!) The main difference is in the method of
  42. distribution. The author specifically grants the right to copy and distribute
  43. the software, either to all and sundry or to a specific group. For example,
  44. some authors require written permission before a commercial disk vendor may
  45. copy their Shareware.

  47. Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software. You should find
  48. software that suits your needs and pocketbook, whether it's retail or
  49. Shareware. The Shareware system makes fitting your needs easier, because you
  50. can try before you buy. And because the overhead is lower, prices are lower
  51. also. Shareware has the ultimate money-back guarantee -- if you don't use the
  52. product, you don't pay for it.

  118. COMPRESSION TECHNOLOGY IN THE TIFF AND GIF IMAGE FILE FORMATS. THIS
  119. AGREEMENT COVERS BOTH THE SHAREWARE AND LICENSED VERSIONS OF JASC
  120. PRODUCTS. BY USING JASC PRODUCTS YOU ARE ASSURED OF BEING IN COMPLIANCE
  121. WITH UNISYS' LZW PATENT.

  123. OUR AGREEMENT WITH UNISYS REQUIRES THE FOLLOWING STATEMENT TO BE INCLUDED

  155.           Installing Paint Shop Pro
  156.  
  157.     Before you can use Paint Shop Pro you have to run the Paint Shop Pro
  158. setup program from Windows so it will work properly on your computer.
  159. You cannot just copy the files from the Paint Shop Pro disk to your hard
  160. disk.  The files on the distribution disk are packed in a special way to
  161. save space.  The setup program unpacks those files and builds them on
  162. your working disk.
  163.  
  164.     1. Start Windows.
  165.     
  166.     2. Place the Paint Shop Pro Disk 1 in the Floppy Drive.
  167.  
  168.     3. Activate Program Manager
  169.     Make Program Manager the active window.
  170.  
  171.     4. Open the File Run Dialog Box
  172.     To open the File Run Dialog Box, select "Run" from the Program
  173.     Manager's File Menu.
  174.  
  175.     5. Enter the Command Line
  176.         Type in the dialog box the command that will run the
  177.         Paint Shop Pro setup program.
  178.  
  179.     If your floppy disk goes in your Drive "A", type:
  180.         A:SETUP
  181.     If your floppy disk goes in your Drive "B", type:
  182.         B:SETUP
  183.  
  184.     Leave the "Run Minimized" box un-selected, and click the
  185.     "OK" command button (or press "Enter").

  187.     6. Enter the Drive and Directory
  188.         This is the location that you want your Paint Shop Pro files to
  189.         be placed.  It will suggest a drive and directory of "C:\PSP".
  190.  
  191.         If you want the Paint Shop Pro program files installed on into
  192.         a different directory, just double click on the directory
  193.         name you would like to install to or type in a new one.
  194.  
  195.     7. Paint Shop Pro Setup will unpack the necessary files and place
  196.     them into your directory.  The status of the operation will be 
  197.         displayed as the setup program does this work.  If Paint Shop Pro
  198.     came on more than one disk, during the unpacking of the disks you 
  199.     will be requested to insert the next disk.

  201.     8. You will be asked if you would like to add the Paint Shop Pro
  202.         icons to the program manager.
  203.  
  204.     Select "No" if you do not want Paint Shop Pro added
  205.         to your program manager.
  206.  
  207.         Select "Yes"  to have the setup program automatically build a 
  208.     Paint Shop Pro icon and add it to your program manager.
  209.  
  210.     9. The setup program will notify you when the installation is
  211.     complete.

  217. In order to keep the size of the Shareware version of Paint Shop Pro
  218. reasonable no user's manual is provided. You will find that ALL menu items
  219. and associated dialog boxes, along with general information, is provided on
  220. line using the HELP-CONTENTS menu option of the program.

  222. When you purchase the licensed version of Paint Shop Pro you will
  223. receive the fully illustrated, perfect bound User's Guide.

  285. along to your friends for evaluation.

  312. disk(s) with the licensed version and the printed user's guide.
