28. I just installed TRII and now my windows will only boot up in safe
mode, and my video is corrupted.
29. I am not getting any FMV's playing back.
30. How do I exit the game?
Solutions:
1.
Problem: Textures not being displayed (areas / objects within the
game being displayed as white).
Solution: The problem you are experiencing is not a bug. This is down to
not
having enough memory on the video card to display all the textures.
To solve this, you can reduce the screen resolution ingame by pressing
the F1 key and or going to the 'advanced options' tab in the Tomb
Raider 2 setup program and clicking the 'disable 16 bit textures'
option.
2.
Problem: Diamond Viper 330 card (Black lines being displayed).
Solution: Apparently the RIVA128 creates Auto-MipMaps for D3D applications
that
don't provide them. This doesn't work correctly for Tomb Raider II.
Possibly
a defect in the Auto-MipMap function of the Riva chip or a driver problem.
To correct this problem make the following registry change:
1) run regedit
2) go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
3) go to SOFTWARE
4) Add New Key and call it NV3D3D (if it isn't there already)
5) Click on NV3D3D
6) Add new DWORD and call it MIPMAPLEVELS
7) Click on MIPMAPLEVELS and set it to 0
8) Exit Regedit
9) Reboot
3.
Problem: Runtime error whenever the game is run.
Possible Solution: Check the date and time of your computer to make sure
it is correct.
4.
Problem: Constant seeking of audio.
Solution: There is a patch available from either -
http://www.core-design.com
or
http://www.eidosinteractive.com
5.
Problem: CD audio not playing.
Check to see if you have a program called FlexiCD installed on your
computer? If so, this can interrupt the sound being played in the game.
Solution: Disable the FlexiCD program.
6.
Problem: Audio cutting out.
Solution: Go into the sound card properties and disable the advanced
settings.
7.
Problem: Fatal error message.
This is caused by the fact that you have at some time installed and
played the demo version of Tomb Raider II and have not installed the
release version of the game but have click the play button without
installing it.
Solution: Click on the install button it will overwrite
previous information held in the system and sort out the problem.
8.
Problem: If you have any problems with the ATI 3D RAGE & RAGE II
video card.
Possible Solution: Try installing the latest video card drivers
from -
http://support.atitech.ca/drivers/3drage_pro.html
9.
Problem: After installing the software the game will not initialise.
Solution: Certain sound card drivers can cause the software to crash
when attempting to start the game. This can usually be solved by
changing the sound card driver being used by the game in the Tomb
Raider setup. Components of Direct X not being certified can also
prevent the game from initialising, i.e. the screen just goes black.
With Tomb Raider automatically running the Direct X 5 installation it
occasionally fails to install correctly. Re-installation of Direct X
may be required, otherwise it will be that drivers will need to be updated.
Dxsetup should be run to check if components are certified.
On some systems e.g. with Crystal hardware original sound drivers
must be restored.
10.
Problem: The game crashes; with messages referring to new executables.
Solution: The message "Microsoft Visual C++ Abnormal Program Termination -
Tomb2.EXE" or "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Error Unable To Locate
Tomb2.exe"
appears to be caused by running either Internet Explorer 4 or Explorer
Notes.
Uninstalling Internet Explorer 4, and ensuring Explorer Notes is not
running can solve this problem. The new executable can also help.
At the end of levels (especially level 1) the software may state that
it requires a new executable to run. Sometimes the patch solves this,
but, in some cases this is only a temporary solution, as at the end of
later levels the error may occur again, but usually requesting a different
version of the exe. Ensuring nothing is running in the background also
helps.
11.
Problem: My gamepad does not work correctly with Tomb Raider.
Solution: Tomb Raider relies on the Windows settings for the gamepad.
It should work correctly if the gamepad has been setup to use the button
settings, but if the pad has been programmed to emulate keyboard presses
this may cause problems with the control in the game.
12.
Problem: TRII couldn't find installation language, and shows an Error 105
message.
Solution: Your CD-ROM may be running a Real Mode DOS Driver. To check this,
go to the Control Panel, look under Systems, then under Performance Status.
If it shows something other than 32 Bit for File System, consult your
hardware manufacturer to resolve this.
13.
Problem: TRII is showing a Fatal Exception Error message.
Solution: Try reinstalling Direct X 5.0, and answer Yes to every prompt.
If problems persist, consult your hardware manufacturer. You may need to
update the drivers for your sound card and video card.
14.
Problem: I have a 2D/3D Voodoo Rush card and TRII is not detecting my card?
Solution: What is happening here is that your 3D accelleration is on the
primary
card, and thus there is no seperate entry for a 3DFX.
15.
Problem: I have a Windows NT machine and I keep getting errors when trying
to
run TRII.
Solution: TRII needs the newest version of DirectX 5.0. Windows NT is
incompatible with DirectX 5.0, therefore you will be unable to run TRII
on a Windows NT machine.
16.
Problem: I keep getting a Runtime C++ Error when trying to run TRII.
Solution: You need to (re)install the latest version of DirectX 5.0
onto your machine. You can find the latest version of DirectX 5.0 on
the TRII CD in the folder directx. Run the dxsetup.exe. Also double-check
your system's date. If the year is incorrect, change it to the current
year.
17.
Problem: I keep getting cannot find dinput.dll error when trying to run
TRII.
Solution: You need to (re)install the latest version of DirectX 5.0 onto
your
machine. You can find this the latest version of DirectX 5.0 on the TRII CD
in
the folder directx. Run the dxsetup.exe. You may be attempting to run TRII
on
a computer operating under Windows NT 4.0.
18.
Problem: I have a Rendition Verite 1000 and the game crashes out
immediately
after the copyright screen has been displayed.
Solution: The Rendition Verite 1000 has difficulty the playing Full Motion
Videos and this is why the game crashes out. If you experience this
problem,
you can turn off the FMV's in the game by selecting the Advanced tab in
Setup,
and checking the Disable FMV box. If you wish to view the FMV's in the
game,
updated drivers for your Rendition card are included on the CD, in the
Drivers\Rendition 1000 directory. This set of drivers is more recent than
the drivers installed by DirectX 5. Installation instructions are provided
in the readme.txt file in the same directory.
19.
Problem: I have a Rendition card and I am getting seaming errors in the
textures
on Lara.
Solution: On the Rendition 1000 cards, seaming may occur, drawing borders
around polygons. This is most apparent on the sky, and on Lara herself.
There is a patch, named TR2_Rendition_Seam_Fix , which will automatically
change a registry entry and fix the problem. To use the patch, simply
double
click on it. PLEASE NOTE THIS IS FOR ADVANCED USERS ONLY! To fix the
seaming
problem, do the following. Open regedit.exe in C:\windows.
Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Core Design\Tomb Raider II\System.
Then, go to key titled Linear Adjustment. Right click on it and choose
"Modify". Switch to Base Decimal, and put the number 256 in the space
provided. Click OK, you're done, and the seaming problem should be
eliminated.
20.
Problem: I have a Nvidia RIVA 128 and I get seeming.
Solution: On NVidia RIVA 128 cards, seaming may occur, drawing borders
around polygons. This is most apparent on the sky, and on Lara herself.
There is a utility available called "NV3 Tweak Utility for the NVidia RIVA
128" which will fix the seaming problem. Install the NV3 Tweak Utility, and
change the "Direct3D Mipmap Levels" to 0. Please note that the optimal
setting for Mipmap Levels for other games is 8 (the default setting), so
you may need to change back to the default setting in the future.
21.
Problem: I am getting a 'Rendering init. Failed Go Full_Screen' error when
running Tomb Raider 2.
Solution: There are two possible fixes, either change your desktop
resolution
to match the resolution you are trying to run Tomb Raider 2 in or you will
need
to (re)install the latest version of DirectX 5.0 onto your machine. You can
find this the latest version of DirectX 5.0 on the TRII CD in the folder
directx. Run the dxsetup.exe. Let the DirectX 5.0 setup overwrite your
existing
files even if the DirectX 5.0 files are older than your current ones.
22.
Problem: I have an accelerator card that is running the 3dfx chipset and
TRII is not detecting my card.
Solution: In rare instances, Tomb Raider II will not detect 3Dfx cards.
If you have a 3Dfx card installed, and experience this problem, it is
probably
because the 3Dfx driver is listed under the Multimedia heading [instead of
Sound, video and game controllers in the System Properties/Device Manager].
You will need to get the latest 3Dfx drivers for your card, remove your
current
drivers and install the new ones.
23.
Problem: I have blocky text in the main menus and I am running an S3 Virge
card. I get black lines across the screen and graphics corruption while I
am running an S3 Virge card.
Solution: If you experience any problems with your S3 Virge VX/GX/DX
card you need to install the latest drivers for your card. They are
available
on the Tomb Raider II CD in the Drivers\S3 Virge directory. Installing
these
drivers will help to fix problems that you may encounter.
24.
Problem: I am getting no redbook audio when playing TRII.
Solution: Tomb Raider II does not always play redbook audio when the TRII
CD is not in the first CD-ROM drive. Depending on your hardware
configuration,
the game will sometimes try to stream data from the primary CD drive. You
will
not get the redbook audio if this is the case. In order to get redbook
audio,
we recommend using the first occurring CD-ROM drive (or slot if a
multi-changer)
with Tomb Raider II. Additionally, the CD audio will not perform correctly
if
you have FlexCD running in the background.
25.
Problem: I am getting CD music but no in game sounds when playing.
Solution: You are experiencing a compatibility problem with DirectX 5.0
and your sound card. You need to (re)install the latest version of
DirectX 5.0 onto your machine. You can find this the latest version
of DirectX 5.0 on the TRII CD in the folder directx. Run the dxsetup.exe.
If you are still experiencing difficulty you need to contact the hardware
manufacturer of your sound card for technical support.
26.
Problem: I am getting texture drops outs, and I have a 4meg accelerator
card.
Solution: Due to the high number of accelerator cards and different 3D
chipsets
available on the market, they will all perform differently under the same
conditions due to the technology of the card and chipset. If you have a
4meg
card and are still getting texture drop outs, you are probably running in a
higher
resolution than the accelerator card has video memory for on your
accelerator card.
You can change the resolution in the setup window or in game by using the
F1 key
to lower resolution and the F2 key to raise the resolution. Additionally
turning
off Z-Buffering may help fix the problem. Again go to the setup window or
use the
F7 key to turn off Z-Buffer.
27.
Problem: I am getting seaming on some of the textures giving the game a
tiled
look about it.
Solution: To fix the seaming problem, do the following. Open regedit.exe in
C:/windows. Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Core Design\Tomb Raider
II\System.
Then, go to the key titled Linear Adjustment. Right click on it, and choose
'Modify.' Switch to Base Decimal, and put the number 256 in the space
provided.
Click OK, and you're done. The seaming problem should be eliminated.
28.
Problem: I just installed TRII and now my windows will only boot up in safe
mode, and my video is corrupted.
Solutution: You need to restore your previous display drivers. Right click
on your desktop and select 'properties' then 'settings' then either
'advanced'
or 'change display type'. From there, click on a different driver than the
one
that is currently highlighted, then click OK. Be sure you have the Windows
95
CD or your display drivers disk that came with your video card.
29.
Problem: I am not getting any FMV's playing back.
Solution: You are experiencing a compatibility problem with DirectX 5.0 and
your 2D card. Your 3D accelerator is working properly so you may play the
game
but your 2D card is not functioning to allow you to view the FMV's. You
need
to (re)install the latest version of DirectX 5.0 onto your machine. You can
find the latest version of DirectX 5.0 on the TRII CD in the folder
DirectX.
Run the dxsetup.exe.
30.
Problem: How do I exit the game?
Solution: Apart from accessing Lara's passport as described in the manual,
you may use
the ALT + F4 option to exit.1.
Raider 2 setup program and clicking the 'disable 16 bit textures'
option.
