TROUBLESHOOTING GODDESS
GODDESS STOPS PLAYING AND ANOTHER SCREENSAVER STARTS PLAYING:
Be sure to disable any other Windows screensavers before you use Goddess.
FILE ERROR: CANNOT FIND AAPLAY.DLL
Goddess requires the files AAPLAY.DLL and AAVGA.DLL to be present
in the C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory to run properly. If these files
have been removed from this archive, you may be able to find them on a
local BBS. They are also available in any of our screen savers at:
http://www.efn.org/~rayo/goddess.html
FILE ERROR: Error loading animation file: <filename>
The animation load routine was unable to locate the animation or script
file, or there was an error in the script file. Verify that that the
script file exists. Then use a text editor (like Notepad) to verify each
line in the script file contains a valid path and file name.
CORRUPTED DISPLAY or WON'T DISPLAY ANIMATIONS PROPERLY.
Be sure to disable any other Windows screensavers before you use
Goddess. Try changing the Int 2f setting. You may also need
to restart Windows.
SCREEN GOES BLANK AND/OR SYSTEM LOCKS UP WHEN GODDESS PLAYS ANIMATION
If you have already tried changing the Int 2f setting, your video drivers
may be incompatible with the animation player routines in AAPLAY.DLL.
The ATI and Diamond video drivers appear to work fine with the AAPLAY
routines. If you aren't going to change video cards soon, and still
want to play the animation, there are other FLI animation players
available. Check around on local BBS's for AAPLAY.EXE or QUICKFLI.EXE,
two great freeware DOS animation players. You can also probably find a
player by checking on Compuserve, AOL, or other online information
services.
ANIMATION IS NOT PLAYING FULL SCREEN
Make sure that AAVGA.DLL is in the C:WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory. Sometimes
changing the Int 2f setting helps. If you are using a 256 color desktop,
try changing to a 65K (high color or 16 bit) or 16.7M (true color or 24
bit) color setting. Win95 users may need to disable any desktop
"Navigator" type programs to get full screen animation. Make sure no
other screen saver drivers are being loaded. Make sure you have the
latest versions of your video card drivers.
MIDI WARNING DIALOG APPEARS BUT NO CURSOR IS PRESENT
This annoying problem occurs when Windows detects a non-standard header
on the MIDI file being accessed by your script. Unfortunately, Goddess
has hidden the cursor at this point, making it nearly impossible to
select the little checkbox that will disable the warning. Fear not, the
solution is at hand. Hold down the <Alt> key and press <F4>. A dotted
line will appear around the checkbox and its associated text. Now press
the spacebar. An "X" will appear in the little checkbox. Press enter
and the warning will be gone the next time you start Goddess. Should
you wish to reenable the warning: Open the file c:\windows\system.ini in
any text editor (like Notepad). Find the section beginning with:
[mciseq.drv]
Find the entry: disablewarning=true
and change it to read: disablewarning=false
Save the file and exit. The warning will now reappear.
