  8.        Hello and welcome  to  the  WinPak#2  software package from
  9.        Rhode Island Soft Systems, Inc.!  
  10.    
  11.        This package contains four unique, custom designed  screen  saver
  12.        modules, two TrueType fonts, and over 100 icons, all for use with
  13.        Windows  3.1.   This  package  contains an automated installation
  14.        utility that should be used  to install the screen saver modules.
  15.        It should be noted that registered users of WinPak#2 receive  the
  16.        full  "Deluxe"  version  of WinPak#2 which contains everything in
  17.        this shareware version PLUS 2 more screen savers, 2 more TrueType
  18.        fonts, and over 100 more icons!

  20.        Most of the files in  this  package  are compressed using the DOS
  21.        "COMPRESS" and "EXPAND" utilities.  The compressed files end with
  22.        an   underscore   on   the   distribution   diskette,   such   as
  23.        "WINPAK2A.SC_".   The  installation  program  will  automatically
  24.        uncompress these files.

  26.        The  following  information will guide you through installing the
  27.        WINPAK#2 files.  Once installed, the  SETUP program will create a
  28.        program group and install  icons  for  the  documentation  files,
  29.        which you can read by clicking on the document's icon.

  35.                              VERIFICATION OF FILES

  38.        At this point, please look  for  all  of the files that belong to
  39.        the WinPak#2 package.  All of the files are listed  in  the  file
  40.        PACKING.TXT If the PACKING.TXT file or any of the files listed in
  41.        PACKING.TXT  are  missing, please contact us for an official copy
  42.        of WinPak#2 -- it would not  be  fair to either the user or Rhode
  43.        Island Soft Systems, Inc.  to have a user evaluate an  incomplete
  44.        package.

  60.                               INSTALLING WINPAK#2
  61.                               -------------------

  63.        WinPak#2  is shipped with a comprehensive installation program to
  64.        automate traditional installation.  To install WinPak#2, you must
  65.        be in the Windows environment.   To  install WinPak#2 we will use
  66.        the SETUP program supplied as part of the package.

  68.        From Program Manager's main window,  select  "File".   This  will
  69.        cause  a menu to drop down.  Next, select "Run...".  A dialog box
  70.        will pop up requesting a "Command Line".
  71.        
  72.        If the WinPak#2 files are  on  a floppy disk, insert the diskette
  73.        into  the  A:  or  B:  drive,  as  appropriate  and  type  either
  74.        "A:\SETUP" or "B:\SETUP",  respectively.   We  must  execute  the
  75.        "SETUP" program that is located on the floppy disk.

  77.        If  the  WinPak#2 files are in a directory on a hard drive, enter
  78.        the full drive and directory path to where the WinPak#2 files are
  79.        located, such as: "C:\DOWNLOAD\TEMP\SETUP".

  81.        Please note that these are just examples -- the directories names
  82.        and  drives  will  certainly  be  different  for  each individual
  83.        computer.  The above examples are for illustrative purposes only.

  85.        After entering the command to execute SETUP, press the ENTER  key
  86.        or click on the "OK" button.

  88.        At this point SETUP will handle the entire process of installing
  89.        the WinPak#2 files.  
  90.        
  91.        To activate the screen savers, we must first  select  the  "Main"
  92.        group in Program Manager.  Next, select the "Control Panel" icon.
  93.        Finally,  within  Control  Panel, select the "Desktop" icon.  The
  94.        "Screen Saver" portion of  the  dialog  box  will now contain the
  95.        WinPak#2 modules in  the  list  of  Screen  Saver  "Names".   The
  96.        WinPak#2  modules  can  be  easily identified as they are labeled
  97.        with "WP2=>".   As an alternative,  you  can  use  the  "Chooser"
  98.        program that is now supplied (free) with WinPak#2!

  100.        The TrueType fonts are automatically installed into  Windows  for
  101.        you.  To use them, simply select them from the list  of  TrueType
  102.        fonts in any application, as you would select any other font.

  104.        To use the icons, simply specify the file "WP2ICON1.DLL" any time
  105.        you  want  to  specify an icon, and select any of the icons  that
  106.        are presented.  For  example, from  Program  Manager,  hilight  a 
  107.        program icon and  select  "File" then "Properties..." and finally
  108.        "Change Icon".  When it asks for the file name of the icon file
  109.        to use, select WP2ICON1.DLL in your Windows directory.

  111.        The icons  in  the  WP2ICON1.DLL  file  are  included courtesy of
  112.        Software Co-Op and are part of a larger  package  of  1700  icons
  113.        published  by Villa Crespo Software.  Look for LexIcon in a store
  114.        near you!
