FOR THE RECORD:
I was sent Email probably like many others that my name and address was
being forwarded to SPA. I just would like to make the following statments
clear.
QUESTION: What actually happened here? Does this happen all the time or am
I new to this type of thing (that is a final version of a commercial
program available for downloading on the internt)?
This is what I sent to the person who was reporting me to the SPA.
-----------------------------------------
I personally wasn't aware that DOOM 2 was currently available from what I
was reading Doom 2 was another month away. I heard that somebody
downloaded it off the internet on Thursday morning, that copy I beleive
was brought to my house (this is the first time this ever happend, I'm
just a single home user). When the copy was brought to me I simply thought
at best that it was a sharware type version or a doom pwad, however if I
found out later that it actually was the final copy, so I just deleted it.
I wanted to go across the bulletin board I just find out what the heck was
happening. "Who's on first", "Whats on 2nd" type of thing. I found out it
was released by mail so I then knew what I had and that I had nothing of
importance to report to the board other than "What the heck is it doing on
the Internet for download purposes", definately not my problem.
So I carried through with my plan and deleted it.
I am currently a Doom registered user and probably soon to be a Doom 2
registered user (I may even register tonight).
I reply this to you just to get the facts straight, I have nothing to hide
and do not deal in this way. I understand the problems with this type of
enviroment.
Question: Who's at fault if somebody downloads Doom 2 off the internet and
is not aware of it being a pirated copy, is this illegal?
Sincerely,
BH
