  1. Thanks for giving TORUS a try!  Below is some information you may find 
  2. helpful before you try playing TORUS.
  3.  
  4. ***REQUIREMENTS***
  5.      TORUS requires DOS version 3.0 or later to work properly.  It also
  6. requires an EGA or VGA compatible display adapter and display.  If your
  7. computer does not meet these specs, you will not be able to run TORUS.
  8.      TORUS runs best on 386 and 486 class computers.  I recommend running 
  9. TORUS in EGA mode on 286 computers to help improve performance.  Although 
  10. the program runs on 8086's and 8088's, it's pretty slow.
  11.      TORUS appears to run just fine under the DOS Shell provided with
  12. Windows 3.1.  It hasn't been officially tested under Windows 3.0.  If you
  13. run under Windows, be sure no other programs are open in the background.
  14. Having other applications open can significantly reduce performance in
  15. TORUS.  In any event, I did not specifically design TORUS with Windows
  16. compatibility in mind, so I can't make any promises about running under
  17. current or future versions of Windows.  I recommend running TORUS as a 
  18. DOS application.

  20. ***INSTALLING TORUS***
  21.      To install TORUS, simply create a directory on your hard disk and
  22. copy the following files into the new directory:  TORUS.EXE, TORUSDAT.EGA,
  23. TORUSDAT.VGA, and README.TRS.  You can also run TORUS from a floppy disk
  24. if all four files are located in the same directory on the floppy and
  25. the floppy is not write-protected.  A very small amount of disk space
  26. (250 bytes) must be free when you first run TORUS so that the program can 
  27. create a file in which high scores are stored (TORUSHI.DAT).
  28.      To run TORUS, switch to the directory that contains the files
  29. mentioned above, type "TORUS", and press <RETURN>.  You can also add
  30. the TORUS directory to your DOS PATH.  If you do so, you will not have to
  31. switch to the TORUS directory when you want to run TORUS.

  33. ***HOW TO PLAY THE GAME***
  34.      Everything else you need to know about TORUS can be found in the
  35. "info" section of the program.  To view this information, run the program
  36. and press "i" when the opening screen appears.  It may also help to run
  37. the demo by pressing "d".
