QuickType Readme
Description:
QuickType is a systray utility for quick and easy
access to the system-wide ClearType settings under
Windows XP.
Requirements:
* Windows XP
Since ClearType is native in Windows XP, and not
supported by any previous version of Windows, it
only makes sense to run this program on Windows XP.
I have never tested this program any other Windows
version so I don't know how it will behave there.
* .NET Framework
You need to have the .NET framework installed.
If you got Windows SP1 or SP2 then you already should
have it on your system. If you don't have the .NET
framework installed you can get it here:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/netframework/downloads/howtoget.aspx
The .NET framework is required to run applications
developed on Microsofts .NET platform. QuickType is
written in C# in Visual Studio .NET so the framework is
required to run the program.
Installation and usage:
There is no installation files included.
Simply create a folder anywhere you like (for example
C:\Program Files\QuickType) and copy all files in the
compressed archive to the new folder.
Then create a short to the QuickType.exe file in your
start menu, quick launch bar or desktop.
When you start the program it will appear in the system
(the area next to the clock on the taskbar).
Rightclick the QuickType icon for a menu with the
following options:
* Start with Windows
Click this item if you would like QuickType to start
automatically with windows.
When the option is active, a check-mark will appear
next to the menu-item.
* ClearType Tuner
Click this item to load the ClearType Tuner PowerToy
control panel applet. QuickType will automatically
detect if you have this applet installed. If
QuickType can't find the ClearType Tuner on your
system, a messagebox will appear with instructions on
how to get it.
* ClearType
This item represents the actual purpose of the program.
Click this item to either enable or disable ClearType on
your system.
When the option is active, a check-mark will appear
next to the menu-item.
* About
Displays a dialogbox with information about QuickType.
* Exit
Quits the program, and unloads it from the systray.
How it came about:
I recently discovered that ClearType actually looks
good on my good old Triniton CRT monitor - allthough
ClearType primarily is for TFT displays.
However, while enabling ClearType looks good when
browsing or reading a text document, it is quite
annoying to have it enabled when programming or coding.
And not only that - while I like to have it enabled for
general browsing and reading, I would like to have a
quick way of disabling it when working on webdesign,
flash and things like that. After all, most users
doesn't have ClearType enabled on their systems (yet)
and as a designer I need to see my design under the
same display settings as my target group.
So... this was how I thought up QuickType:
To make an easy shortcut for enabling and disabling
ClearType on my system, instead of going through the
start -> control panel -> tuner -> on/off routine all
the time.

technology check out http://www.microsoft.com/typography/ClearTypeInfo.mspx
or go to http://www.microsoft.com/typography/ClearTypePowerToy.mspx
to download the Clear Type Tuner PowerToy.
I hope you find this little utility helpfull.
