  3. Yamaha CBX Driver for Windows95 Version 1.80b4
  4.  
  5. Before using this software, please read the "License Agreement" at the
  6. section (6). Using the software means you have agreed to all the terms and
  7. conditions of the Agreement. 
  8. Please note that the software is a beta version and may contain bugs that 
  9. could cause some problems on your system. 
  10.  
  11. Yamaha CBX Driver for Windows95 is software which enables IBM PC or
  12. compatible computers to directly connect to the "TO HOST" port of Yamaha
  13. Tone Modules. The TO HOST connection allows the Tone Module to "talk" to
  14. the PC without having a dedicated MIDI board attached to your PC. In order to
  15. utilize this CBX Driver, you will need a "TO HOST" cable which is available
  16. from Yamaha dealers.

  31. (1) Main features and functions 
  32.  
  33. 1. Direct connection to the 9 pin serial port of the PC. You can use any
  34. MIDI capable Windows software such as Sequencers, MIDI Players or Games and
  35. multimedia titles using MIDI. 
  36.  
  37. 2. Multi-port support. This long awaited function is now supported. The
  38. MU80 has 3 MIDI ports (A,B and Thru) and you can access all of these 48
  39. channels by a single TO HOST cable connection. 
  40.  
  41. 3.Multi-client support. Up to 3 MIDI applications can be used simultaneously. 
  42.  
  43. 4. Fast data transmission. 38400 bps is used for the data transmission
  44. between the PC and Tone Generator through the TO HOST connection.

  48. (2) System Requirements
  49.  
  50.   -Yamaha Tone Generator with a "TO HOST" connector. 
  51.       Currently available products are (at the time of writing);
  52.       XG Tone modules and keyboards: MU80, MU50, MU10, 
  53.       VL-70m,CS1X, CBX-K1XG, etc..
  54.     GM Tone modules and keyboards: TG100, CBX-T3, TG300, 
  55.        MU5, etc..
  56.      For the latest list, please ask your local Yamaha dealer. 
  57.  
  58.      *Set the selector of the TO HOST" to "PC-2". (PC-1 is for 
  59.        NEC 9800 series computer under Windows3.1 only.) 
  60.  
  61.  - IBM-PC or compatible computer running Windows95. 
  62.  - 9 Pin Serial Port
  63.  - Yamaha TO HOST cable "CC-IBM" (9 pin serial to 8 pin
  64.       mini DIN) or compatible cable.

  68. (3) Installation and Setup
  69.  
  70. 0. If you have an old version of Yamaha CBX-T3 Driver1.3, or 1.4, please
  71. remove it before installation of the new Driver. See the section (4) for
  72. the removal procedure.
  73.  
  74. 1. After starting Windows95, insert the Yamaha CBX Driver Disk for Windows
  75. 95 into your floppy drive. If you downloaded the file from the Yamaha home
  76. page or other's directly onto your hard disk, check the location of the
  77. file.
  78.  
  79. 2. Double click the System icon in the Control Panel.
  80.  
  81. 2.1 Choose the Device Manager.
  82.  
  83. 2.2 In this window under [Ports (COM & LPT)] confirm that the desired COM
  84. Port is functioning properly. If the COM port has a problem you will see a
  85. red 'X' mark or a yellow warning icon. If you encounter any problems here,
  86. please solve them before moving on to the next step.

  88. 2.3 Finish checking the Port by clicking [Cancel]. 
  89.  
  90. 3. Double click [Add New Hardware] in the control panel. 
  91.  
  92. 3.1 At [Add New Hardware Wizard] please click on [Next]. 
  93.  
  94. 3.2 When you are asked if you want to auto-detect the new hardware, click
  95. [No] and then click [Next]. 
  96.  
  97. 3.3 At the hardware screen choose [Sound, Video and Game Controllers] and
  98. click [next].
  99.  
  100. 3.4 Choose [Have Disk]
  101.  
  102. 3.5 Using [Browse] choose the file CBXT3.INF on your floppy drive. If you
  103. have downloaded the file, please locate the file by browsing.
  104.  
  105.  
  106. 3.6 On [Select Device] screen you will see [Yamaha CBX Driver for Windows
  107. 95] and click [OK]. 
  108.  
  109. 3.8 Click [Finish].
  110.  
  111. 4. The [YAMAHA CBX Driver Setup] Dialog appears after the drivers are
  112. finished copying. Choose the proper COM port for your MIDI device and
  113. whether you will use the Multi-port feature and then click [OK].
  114.  
  115. 5. [Do you want to restart Windows?] dialog appears. Remove the floppy
  116. disk and click [OK] to activate the new driver.

  119. Setup
  120.  
  121. 1.Host Select Switch: Check that the Host Select switch on your Tone
  122. Generator is set to PC-2! 
  123. 2.Test the driver by playing a MIDI file with the Media Player. 
  124. 3.Multiport function: If you have the MU80, you can access this function from
  125. the Multimedia Menu under Control Panel. By double-clicking  'Settings' you
  126. will see Yamaha CBX Driver A,B and C. 
  127. YAMAHA CBX A Driver 01-16 Channel Use
  128. YAMAHA CBX B Driver 17-32 Channel Use
  129. YAMAHA CBX C Driver 33-48 Channel Use
  130. To use 33-48 channels, change the Thru Port setting to 3 from 1 which is
  131. the default setting.  (Details can be found in the MU80 Users Manual)

  135. (4)  Removing the Driver
  136.  
  137. For the Yamaha CBX-T3 Driver Version 1.3 (same procedure for 1.4)
  138. 1. Double-click [Multimedia] icon in the Control Panel. 
  139. 1.1 Open [Advanced] window.
  140. 1.2 Double click on [MIDI Devices and Instruments]. 
  141. 1.3 Please choose [Yamaha CBX-T3 Driver Version1.3] and click 
  142. [Properties].
  143. 1.4 Click [Remove].
  144. 1.5 When [Are you sure you want to remove this driver?] message appears
  145. click [Yes].
  146. 1.6 [Device is removed] appears and click [OK] 
  147. 1.7 At the next message [Changes may not take effect until Windows is
  148. restarted] click [OK].
  149. 1.8 Click [OK] in [Multimedia Properties] and the process is finished. 
  150. 2. Click [Start] on the task bar Choose [Run]. 
  151. 2.1 At [Open] dialog enter the name SYSEDIT and click [OK]. 
  152. 3. The system editor will appear.
  153. 3.1 Edit the [SYSTEM.INI] as follows:
  154. 3.2 In the [386Enh] section remove the line [device=cbxt3buf.386] 
  155. 4. Restart Windows 95.
  156. 5. Removing the old driver files.
  157. Remove the following files from your Windows SYSTEM directory : 
  158. cbxt3.drv
  159. cbxt3buf.386
  160. 6. The elimination of the drivers is completed.

  163. For the Yamaha CBX Driver for Windows95 Version 1.80b4
  164.  
  165. 1. Double-click [Multimedia] icon in the Control Panel. 
  166. 1.1 Open [Advanced] window.
  167. 1.2 Double click on [MIDI Devices and Instruments]. 
  168. 1.3 Choose [Yamaha CBX Driver for Windows 95] and click [Properties].
  169. 1.4 Click [Remove] button.
  170. 1.5 When [Are you sure you want to remove this driver?] message appears
  171. click [Yes].

  173. 1.7 At the next message [Changes may not take effect until Windows is
  174. restarted] click [OK].

  179. (5) FAQ - Problems and solutions
  180.  
  181. 1) In some of my MIDI applications MIDI messages are sent regardless of the
  182. fact that the MIDI driver is busy so errors occur such as dropping of
  183. notes, continuous or unusual sounds.
  184.  
  185. This problem is solved by using such applications that ignore the busy
  186. status of the MIDI driver only with a multi-client capable driver.
  187.  
  188. 2) I have a MIDI application that divides the transmission of system
  189. exclusive messages and standard MIDI data. Sometimes the system exclusive
  190. messages are not received accurately.
  191.  
  192. This problem is solved by only using such applications that divide system
  193. exclusive and standard messages with a multi-client capable driver.
  194.  
  195. 3) My computer often hangs up when closing MIDI applications with the
  196. drivers set to Multi-port mode.
  197.  
  198. This problem will be corrected in the future release of the drivers.
  199.  
  200. 4) How can I get information about Yamaha products and updates?
  201.  
  202. Please check the Yamaha home page for the latest information. When a >new
  203. version of the Serial Driver becomes available it can be found at the
  204. following site if it's not available from your local Yamaha dealer:
