  4. This README.TXT file is for the installation of Digital Equipment 
  5. Corporation's DEC FDDIcontroller/PCI adapters in a Windows for 
  6. Workgroup environment.

  8. Supported adapters for real mode (NDIS2):
  9.     DEFPA
  10. Supported adapters for enhanced mode (NDIS3): 
  11.     none
  12. Supported adapters for ODI:
  13.     DEFPA (with restrictions, see DRIVER TYPES section)

  26. * INSTALLATION TROUBLESHOOTING *
  27. ********************************

  29. Important note: If this is not your first network installation in 
  30. WFW, you may have a problem with old information still being in the 
  31. setup files, causing functional problems.  If you are experiencing 
  32. problems, go to Network Setup and select "No Network".  Restart the 
  33. system. Examine the setup files (config.sys, win.ini, protocol.ini, 
  34. system.ini) and make sure that no references to network adapters 
  35. exists.  From the root, type the following command:
  36.  
  37.     dir \windows\system\oem*
  38.  
  39. Examine these .inf files and if any of them are pertinent to old
  40. installations of network adapters, delete them. Delete old versions 
  41. of network adapter drivers (DEFPA.DOS).  
  42. Then go back into Network Setup and add your network adapters
  43. normally.

  50. When installing the adapter, only the NDIS2 driver (real mode) is 
  51. supported.
  52.  
  53. The NDIS 3 driver (enhanced mode) is not available for this adapter.

  55. The DOS ODI driver is available.  However, Windows for Workgroups does 
  56. not install FDDI DOS ODI client drivers properly.  Also, Novell's ODINSUP
  57. shim does not support FDDI DOS ODI client drivers, so you cannot run
  58. NDIS 2 compliant protocol stacks over the DOS ODI driver.  For more
  59. information on DOS ODI driver installations under WFW 3.11, consult
  60. \NOVELL\DOSODI\README.TXT.

  64. * ADDING THE ADAPTER AFTER WFW 3.11 INSTALLATION *

  67. Make sure your adapter is configured in the system.
  68. Automatic Installation Using the Network Setup Program:
  69.  
  70.       1. Click on the Network Setup icon.
  71.      If no network is installed, click on Networks button,
  72.      choose network type, then click OK.
  73.  
  74.       2. Click on the Drivers button.
  75.  
  76.       3. If a driver for this adapter already exists, you must 
  77.      remove it first by clicking on the driver name to select 
  78.      the driver, then clicking the remove button.
  79.  
  80.       4. Click the Add Adapter button and select Unlisted or 
  81.      Updated Network Adapter.
  82.  
  83.       5. Insert the driver diskette in the floppy drive and press 
  84.      <ENTER> to accept the A:\ path.
  85.           
  86.       6. Choose the appropriate adapter and click OK.  Click the 
  87.      Setup button.  See the "Driver Types" section of this 
  88.      readme for information on choosing the appropriate driver 
  89.      for your application.

  91.       7. Follow the instructions to complete the software 
  92.      installation and reset or power cycle your computer when 
  93.      WFW asks you to restart.

  97. * ADDING THE ADAPTER DURING WFW 3.11 INSTALLATION *

  100. The installation kit for Windows for Workgroups comprises eight 
  101. diskettes.  Continue with the WFW3.11 installation of disks 1-6.  
  102. During the installation of diskette #7, the network environment 
  103. will be configured.  At this point you will be asked to select a
  104. Network Adapter to install.
  105.  
  106. Below is a sample of an installation.
  107.                             
  108.     1. Select the Bullet "Install Microsoft Windows Network"
  109.        Click OK
  110.        Click Continue
  111.  
  112.     2. From the Add Network Adapter Screen...
  113.        Select "Unlisted or Updated Network Adapter" , click OK
  114.  
  115.     3. From Install Driver Screen...
  116.        - Remove disk #7
  117.        - Insert the network adapter driver diskette
  118.          NOTE:  DO NOT INCLUDE THE FILENAME AS PART OF THE PATH
  119.        Click OK to accept the A:\ path
  120.  
  121.     4. From Unlisted or updated Network Adapter Screen...
  122.        Select the appropriate adapter and click OK.  Click the 
  123.        Setup button.  See the "Driver Types" section of this 
  124.        readme for information on choosing the appropriate 
  125.        driver for your application.

  127.     5. From Microsoft Windows Network Name screen...
  128.        Enter your site specific information and click OK

  130.     6. From Install Driver Screen...
  131.        - Remove network adapter driver diskette
  132.        - Insert Disk #7 an click OK

  134.        - Insert Disk #8

  136.     7. From Install Driver Screen...

  138.        - Insert network adapter driver diskette
