  78. This package contains Cumberland Diary (Version 1.3), by Cumberland
  79. Family Software.  This document contains only a brief description of the
  80. package and its features, along with instructions for its installation.
  81. Quite detailed documentation is included in the package, but it is in
  82. archived form, and is more easily read after installation.
  83.  
  84. Cumberland Diary is a shareware program.  This evaluation version
  85. includes all features of the program, and is not crippled in any way.
  86. You may use it for up to 30 days, without charge. If you like the
  87. program, and wish to continue its use after this evaluation period, you
  88. are required to pay for the program (see ORDER.TXT for more details).
  89. Any fee you may have paid to others (disk vendors, dealers, etc.) to
  90. obtain this evaluation version was a fee for their copying and
  91. distribution services, rather than a payment for continued use of the
  92. program.

  128. ===== Installation =====================================

  130. The installation procedure for Cumberland Diary is quite simple.  The
  131. package includes a program, "INSTALL.EXE", which automates the entire
  132. process.  You will need about 800K of available disk space on the hard
  133. drive on which you plan to install the program.
  134.  
  135. The exact steps you need to take will depend on how you received
  136. Cumberland Diary.
  137.  
  138. INSTALLING FROM DISKETTES
  139.  
  140. To install from diskette(s), you need to perform the following steps.
  141.  
  142.    o  Place the distribution diskette "Disk 1" in the appropriate
  143.       diskette drive.
  144.  
  145.    o  Execute the "INSTALL.EXE" program on the distribution diskette.
  146.       For example, if the distribution diskette is on drive A:, you must
  147.       change to drive a: by entering "a:" then type the install command,
  148.       "install".
  149.  
  150.    o  Follow the instructions presented by the installation program. You
  151.       will have a chance to approve installation before any changes are
  152.       actually made to the contents of your hard drive.  The program
  153.       will ask you for a destination directory, and will copy the
  154.       Cumberland Diary to that directory. It will make no other changes;
  155.       specifically, it will not modify your autoexec.bat or config.sys
  156.       files.

  158. INSTALLING FROM A HARD DRIVE
  159.  
  160. If you downloaded Cumberland Story from a BBS (or received it in the
  161. form of archive files from some other source), you will need to perform
  162. the following steps.
  163.  
  164.    o  Extract the contents of the archive file(s) in a sub directory.
  165.       The procedure for doing this varies, depending on the form in
  166.       which you received the package. In all likelihood, the fact that
  167.       you are reading this text means that you already have the
  168.       necessary tools and knowledge to perform this step. If not, you
  169.       should be able to obtain directions for this from the same source
  170.       from which you received the package. You do not need to run the
  171.       INSTALL program, as it is not part of the package and is only
  172.       distributed on diskette.

  174. YOU'RE READY TO GO
  175.  
  176. Once you've complete the installation, you can then start the program by
  177. entering CDIARY. Since there is extensive on-line help, you do not need
  178. to read the documentation first. You can access the on-line help at any
  179. time by pressing F1. We hope you enjoy the program.

  211. Cumberland Diary is NOT a public domain program.  It is copyrighted by
  212. Cumberland Family Software.  This software and accompanying
  213. documentation are protected by United States Copyright law and also by
  214. International Treaty provisions.

  216. Cumberland Family Software grants you a limited license to use this
  217. software for evaluation purposes for a period not to exceed thirty days.
  218. If you continue using this software after the thirty-day evaluation
  219. period, you MUST make a registration payment to Cumberland Family
  220. Software.

  222. LIMITED DISTRIBUTION LICENSE

  224. INDIVIDUALS may distribute Cumberland Diary to friends or associates,
  225. provided they charge no fees for this service, and they convey a
  226. complete and unaltered copy of the shareware version of this product.

  235. Diskette Vendors should be aware that the provided INSTALL program
  236. requires a label of "CDIARY 1-1" (without quotes) to work properly.
  237. A "diskcopy" will copy the label in addition to the files. Otherwise
  238. you must use the DOS label command.

  240. You may not use, copy, rent, lease, sell, modify, decompile,
  241. disassemble, otherwise reverse engineer, or transfer the licensed
  242. program except as provided in this agreement.  Any such unauthorized
  243. use shall result in immediate and automatic termination of this license.

  245. Permission to distribute the Cumberland Diary package is not
  246. transferable, assignable, saleable, or franchisable.  Each vendor
  247. wishing to distribute the package must independently satisfy the terms
  248. of this limited distribution license.

  250. U.S. Government Information:  Use, duplication, or disclosure by the
  251. U.S. Government of the computer software and documentation in this
  252. package shall be subject to the restricted rights applicable to
  253. commercial computer software as set forth in subdivision (b)(3)(ii) of
