PC STORYBOOKS
Version 2.0
Copyright (c) 1989, 1992, Cow Country Systems.
All rights reserved.
Welcome to PC STORYBOOKS (Version 2.0)!
When I wrote Version 1.0, my oldest son was two years old.
He is now five and has a younger brother. Both boys still
enjoy the stories.
NOTE: If you obtained this program from a shareware disk
distributor, then you have paid only for the service of copying
fthis disk, but you have not paid for the program itself. The
author receives no part of the price you may have paid to a
disk distributor for this disk.
Changes from Version 1.0
=========================
Version 2.0 has several improvements over Version 1.0.
The biggest improvement is the timing. Version 1.0 didn't take
into account the speed of the machine. Version 2.0 freezes each
story page for several seconds (so the story doesn't fly by when
little fingers start banging keys).
Version 2.0 has a registration fee of $19.95 (instead of
Version 1.0's $5.00 per story). Registered owners of Version
1.0 can request a free copy and are automatically registered
for Version 2.0.

About the Author
================
This is my first attempt to create shareware for the pre-schooler.
I am a "programming mom" at home with two children. I am having a
great time writing software for my sons and hope to continue
releasing more software into the shareware market. My goal is to
create software which will introduce young children to the world of
computers in a manner which is both fun and educational. How
successful I am at reaching this goal depends on you.
About PC STORYBOOKS
===================
PC STORYBOOKS are very easy to use. A two-year-old can easily
flip the pages of the "books" by pressing the spacebar.
When compared to other "books" you might find in a bookstore,
PC STORYBOOKS offer several advantages: (1) a chance to use the
computer (kids love that), (2) a bit of animation and music
(not found in paper books), and (3) "pages" that cannot rip or
be chewed (my youngest son has tried!).
When compared to similar paper books, I hope that you will find
the $19.95 registration fee (reduced from Version 1.0) to be
very modest. In addition, registered owners will receive FREE
updates.
INSTALLING PC STORYBOOKS
========================
Operating Requirements:
-- IBM PC or compatible
-- CGA or greater
-- MS DOS 2.1 or greater
-- at least 256K
-- Hard Disk Drive
To install PC STORYBOOKS:
(1) Create a directory on your hard disk drive called STORIES.
Example: C: MD STORIES
(2) Set current directory to STORIES.
Example: C: CD STORIES
(3) Copy all files from disk(s) containing PC STORYBOOKS
to hard disk drive.
Example: C: COPY A:*.*

To begin PC STORYBOOKS, set the prompt to the disk drive and
directory where the software resides and type STORIES. Press
the return/enter key and the menu will appear. Move the
highlight bar to the title of the story you wish to "read"
and select the story by pressing the return/enter key.
The story will begin. From that point on, the only key needed
is the spacebar. Use it to turn the "pages" of the book.
Note the appearance of the "+" in the upper right hand corner
of each "page." When the "+" can be seen on the screen, all
keys are "dead." This feature prohibits your child from
holding down the spacebar key (as children often do) and
thereby having the entire story fly by without being read.
When the "+" disappears the spacebar once again becomes an
"active" key.
MY SONS, MICHAEL AND CRAIG HOPE YOU ENJOY THEIR BOOKS!
