  58. 1.      Overview
  59.  
  60.         This disk contains all components of the add-on 
  61.         application ELSAview 3D for AutoCAD R14.01,
  62.                                     Mechanical Desktop 2.0, 
  63.                                     Mechanical Desktop 3.0        
  64.                                     and ADT 1.0.
  65.  
  66.         Earlier versions of this application are known by the
  67.         name POWERview 3D. This documentation uses the new name 
  68.         even if referring to the earlier versions.

  70.         Supported platform is Windows NT 4.0.
  71.  
  72.         For detailed information please see the online-help. This
  73.         includes a section with release notes.

  92. 3.      Installation / Deinstallation
  93.  
  94.         For installation start SETUP.EXE by the menu item File/Run 
  95.         in the Program Manager or double click SETUP.EXE in the 
  96.         File Manager or Windows Explorer.
  97.  
  98.         It is possible to run SETUP.EXE in a silent mode to avoid
  99.         user input. See the ELSAview help for more information
  100.         about this mode.
  101.  
  102.         The installation and the deinstallation can change some 
  103.         files of the original AutoCAD installation. These files 
  104.         are "acad.rx" and "acad.pgp" (in the support-directory).
  105.         These files are backed up to "acad_rx.bak" and 
  106.         "acad_pgp.bak".
  107.

  110. 4.      Notes
  111.  
  112.         If you have used a beta version of ELSAview 3D before, do 
  113.         not use data created with that (*.iv, *vrml...) version. 
  114.         Due to special changes, we can not guarantee that it will 
  115.         work with this actual release.
  116.  
  117.         If you got this file set in compressed format, make sure 
  118.         to expand it retaining the subdirectory structure. Use the 
  119.         option "-d" for PKUNZIP or an equivalent option, if you 
  120.         use another packer.

  126.         Please report problems with a detailed description, a
  127.         description of your system and - if applicable - with a 
  128.         sample data set to our ELSA Support.

  133. 6.      Using Accelerator Keys
  134.         
  135.         NOTE: You should have experience with AutoCAD menu files,
  136.               otherwise consult your AutoCAD documentation.
  137.  
  138.         To make the switching between AutoCAD and ELSAview 3D more 
  139.         comfortable you can define an accelerator key for AutoCAD.
  140.  
  141.  
  142. 6.1     AutoCAD R14
  143.  
  144.         Perform the following steps:
  145.  
  146.         (0) Close all AutoCAD applications
  147.  
  148.         (1) Make a backup of the following files in 
  149.             <ACAD home>\win\support or <ACAD home>\support:
  150.  
  151.               - acad.mnc   acadfull.mnc
  152.               - acad.mns   acadfull.mns
  153.               - acad.mnr   acadfull.mnr
  154.               - acad.mnu   acadfull.mnu
  155.  
  156.         (2) Delete the following files in the path 
  157.             <ACAD home>\win\support or <ACAD home>\support:
  158.  
  159.               - acad.mnc   acadfull.mnc
  160.               - acad.mns   acadfull.mns
  161.               - acad.mnr   acadfull.mnr
  162.  
  163.         (3) Open acad.mnu with Notepad or a similar editor.
  164.  
  165.         (4) Search for the section : ***ACCELERATORS
  166.  
  167.         (5) Append the following line to the end of this section:
  168.       
  169.                ["F3"]^C^C_pvfront
  170.             This command establishes an accelerator on the 
  171.             command key F3 so you will be able to switch to the 
  172.             viewer by simly pressing F3.
  173.  
  174.         (6) Save the file.
  175.  
  176.         (7) Repeat steps 3 through 6 for acadfull.mnu.
  177.  
  178.         (8) Start AutoCAD.

  181. 6.2     Conventions for using accelerator keys
  182.  
  183.         You can combine several keys by using +, e.g.:
  184.         [SHIFT+"F3"]
  185.  
  186.         control keys         CONTROL SHIFT
  187.         F1-F12               "F1' "F2" ... (except F10)
  188.         cursor keys          "UP" "DOWN" "LEFT" "RIGHT" 
  189.         position keys        "HOME" "END"
  190.         numeric keypad       "NUMPAD0" "NUMPAD1" ...
  191.         other keys           "INS" "DEL" "ESC"
  192.  
  193.         Please do not use keys that are used by the system, e.g. 
  194.         "F1" for help.
  195.

  197. 7.      Caveats / Known Problems
  198.  
  199.         When used with Mechanical desktop the ELSAview 3D toolbox
  200.         may be unloaded when you load a new drawing.
  201.         See section 6 for a workaround.
  202.  
  203.         If you have used an earlier version of ELSAview 3D before,
  204.         please delete the following registry entry to avoid 
  205.         crashes:
  206.              HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ELSA\POWERview3D
  207.  
  208.         If you use MS Netmeeting be sure to use the latest NT 
  209.         drivers (v5.26.00.227 or later) for your graphics board. 
  210.         Older drivers could prevent ELSAview 3D to get a valid 
  211.         license to run.
  212.         
  213.         Loading drawings generated with versions before AutoCAD 
  214.         R14 into R14 could lead to problems when editing light 
  215.         sources. Autodesk has improved the light sources in 
  216.         AutoCAD R14. These changes are not compatible. If the 
  217.         viewer edits an old light source AutoCAD crashs.
  218.         To avoid this problem perform the following steps for 
  219.         older drawings:
  220.          1) load drawing into AutoCAD R14
  221.          2) call the light dialog (AutoCAD!)
  222.          3) select one light source
  223.          4) click on the 'modify' button
  224.          5) click on 'ok'
  225.          6) repeat steps 3 - 5 for every light source 
  226.          7) save drawing
  227.         Now the light sources have the valid format ELSAview 3D is
  228.         able to work with.
  229.         
  230.         There are some drawings in VRML2 format which can not get 
  231.         saved in VRML format again.
  232.         
  233.         Saving a drawing to a *.wrl file can lead to color errors
  234.         in the saved file. Only entities on layer 0 with color 
  235.         by layer in blocks show this problem.   
  236.  
  237.         Rendering to the Mechanical Desktop v2.x viewport will
  238.         only work when the ARx module of ELSAview 3D was loaded
  239.         by acad.rx (as is default in Setup). When you load the
  240.         ARx module manually only rendering to a separate window
  241.         will be available.
  242.         The problems occurs in connection of AccelVIEW 3D. You
  243.         can avoid these problems completly by renaming the file
  244.         "accelvw.arx" for examble in "accelvw_1.arx". You can 
  245.         find the file in the AutoCAD directory. 
  246.  
  247.         To avoid problems with ELSAview 3D we recommend to 
  248.         update your AutoCAD installation to R14.01.
  249.  
  250.         To avoid problems using ELSAview 3D and POWERdraft
  251.         together rendering to AutoCAD's viewport, you should
  252.         use the latest version of POWERdraft (V14.02.06 or 
  253.         later)
  254.  
  255.         Toggling between Assembly and Scene View can lead to 
  256.         some rendering artefacts. To avoid this problem it is 
  257.         recommended to use the EVALL command after toggling.
  258.  
  259.         When using ELSAview 3D together with ACAD-BAU the 
  260.         startup procedure will not execute a command needed
  261.         for a correct start of ELSAview 3D. You have to call 
  262.         this command manually by entering "evreinit" after 
  263.         ACAD-BAU has started.
