  46. 1       Introduction
  47.  
  48.         This file explains how to setup and to configure the ELSA
  49.         Windows NT driver software for your ELSA graphics board.
  50.  
  51. 1.1     Requirements
  52.  
  53.         This driver software runs on an ELSA GLoria II only.
  54.

  57.         For more information on configuring installed ELSA graphics
  58.         drivers, refer to the Windows Help or to the help files for 
  59.         the ELSA Utilities.

  63. 2       Installation
  64.  
  65.         NOTE: This driver was designed for full functionality
  66.               under Windows NT 4.0 only!
  67.  
  68.         There are several ways to install the ELSA graphics driver:
  69.         - Automatic installation by ELSA Setup Utility  (2.1)
  70.         - Via the Windows dialog "Display Properties"   (2.2)
  71.  
  72.         NOTE: We recomend using the automatic installation!
  73.  
  74.         NOTE: First install the Standard-VGA driver, then shut down
  75.               your computer and exchange the graphics board with
  76.               the GLoria II.
  77.  
  78. 2.1     Automatic installation with the ELSA Setup Utility
  79.  
  80.         First of all, start Windows NT. To run SETUP.EXE then, you
  81.         can either double click on the filename in the Microsoft
  82.         Explorer or choose "Run..." in the "Start" menu. Then you
  83.         have to enter the complete path to the file "SETUP.EXE".
  84.         Confirm with "OK".
  85.     
  86.         NOTE: Please close all programs before running Setup - 
  87.               especially other ELSA utilities.
  88.  
  89.         NOTE: Detailed information for the ELSA Setup Utility can
  90.               be found in the Setup_en.txt file.

  92. 2.1.1   Installation on an Intel(R) Pentium III system
  93.  
  94.         While installing the ELSA driver the program
  95.         CheckPentiumIIISupport may ask you to update your
  96.         Windows NT 4.0 installation. In this case you are using an
  97.         Intel(R) Pentium III processor, but the Intel(R) Streaming
  98.         SIMD extension driver for Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 service
  99.         pack 4 is NOT installed. This additional driver is
  100.         required for ELSA SIMDream(TM). You'll find this necessary
  101.         Intel driver either on the WINNERware-CD in the directory: 
  102.         \WINWARE\MSAPPS\INTP3SUP\websetup.exe
  103.         or on the GLoria II Driver CD in the directory:
  104.         \APPS\INTP3SUP\websetup.exe.
  105.  
  106.         Service Pack 5 already contains this driver.

  108. 2.2     Manual Installation via Display Properties
  109.  
  110.         In the Taskbar/Start/Settings, click on "Control Panel" and
  111.         then select "Display Properties". Alternatively, you can
  112.         right-click the desktop and in the appearing popup menu,
  113.         select "Properties". Select "Settings" and then "Display
  114.         Type". In the upcoming window you can use the "Change"
  115.         button to select your ELSA graphics board. You will get the
  116.         "Change Display" dialog box with a variety of available
  117.         drivers.
  118.  
  119.         On the lower right-hand of the dialog box select the button
  120.         "Other...". The dialog "Install from disk" appears with an
  121.         indication of path or floppy drive ("A:\"). Change the
  122.         entry to the path where the driver files for your board are
  123.         located (e.g."\GLoriaII\WINNT40") and confirm with
  124.         "Continue". Now a list of ELSA graphics drivers is
  125.         displayed. Select the driver for your board. Confirm the
  126.         dialog. The driver is installed after confirming the
  127.         warning that a third-party driver will be installed.
  128.  
  129.         NOTE: Under Windows NT 4.0, graphics drivers cannot be
  130.               loaded dynamically. This is a limitation of the
  131.               operating system.
  132.  
  133.         To activate the ELSA driver the computer has to be
  134.         restarted. Please press "Yes" in the upcoming dialog.
  135.         The system will reboot and the initial installation is
  136.         finished.
  137.  
  138.         The initial installation of ELSA drivers for Microsoft
  139.         Windows NT 4.0 installs the driver at a resolution of
  140.         640*480 pixel at 60Hz refresh.
  141.  
  142.         NOTE: With the installation of the Windows NT 4.0 driver,
  143.               the ELSA OpenGL driver is automatically installed.

  145. 2.3     Determining the Driver Version Number
  146.  
  147. 2.3.1   Determining the Driver Version Number via Display Properties
  148.  
  149.         From the Start menu, select "Settings" and in the Control
  150.         Panel launch "Display". Select the tab "Settings" and then
  151.         the button "Change configuration...". The following dialog
  152.         gives information about the manufacturer, the version
  153.         number and the current driver files.
  154.  
  155.         NOTE: If you see "Version Information missing ", you did
  156.               not set US English as the system language. This
  157.               problem will appear in all non-American NT
  158.               installations. This is a limitation of the
  159.               operating system.
  160.  
  161. 2.3.2   Determining the Driver Version Number via the Driver Files
  162.  
  163.         Use the Explorer to inspect the file properties for one of
  164.         the files EGLIIM.SYS or EGLIID.DLL. The file EGLIIM.SYS
  165.         can be found in the directory System32\Drivers, the *.DLL
  166.         file in the System32 directory of your Windows NT
  167.         installation.

  171. 3       Additional Configuration Options

  173. 3.1     Additional Tools
  174.  
  175. 3.1.1   ELSA WinmanSuite
  176.  
  177.         ELSA WinmanSuite is a tool which integrates in the taskbar
  178.         of your Operating system. Clicking the mouse on the tray
  179.         icon, you will get quick access to all installed ELSA
  180.         utilities.
  181.  
  182. 3.1.2   ELSA Hotkeys
  183.  
  184.         Using the ELSA Hotkeys, you will now be able to define
  185.         shortcuts for certain actions. You can use this tool to
  186.         start frequently used programs, or to change the
  187.         arrangement of windows on your desktop. You will find this
  188.         tool as a tab in the display properties or as a menu item
  189.         in the WinmanSuite.
  190.         You will get a detailed description of the whole
  191.         functionality by clicking on the toolｴs help button.

  193. 3.1.3   ELSA Application Settings
  194.  
  195.         The ELSA Application Settings allow you to configure the 3D
  196.         options of your ELSA GLoria graphics board. You will find
  197.         this tool as a tab in the display properties or as a menu
  198.         item in the WinmanSuite.
  199.         You also will find a detailed description by clicking the
  200.         Help key.

  202. 3.1.4   ELSA Info
  203.  
  204.         ELSA Info offers a quick view of all relevant information
  205.         about your hard- and software configuration. First of all,
  206.         this is a diagnostic tool, which should help you in solving
  207.         configuration problems of your graphics system.
  208.         You can redirect all shown information to file or printer.
  209.         The generated output will be helpful in getting quick
  210.         and efficient support from ELSA.

  212. 3.1.5   ELSA Settings
  213.  
  214.         The ELSA Settings (Winman) are a sort of "Control Center"
  215.         for the display driver. Here you can change the basic
  216.         display functionality, as there are resolution, colordepth,
  217.         refreshrate.
  218.         You are also able to configure your monitor. A detailed
  219.         description of all possible settings is available by
  220.         clicking the mouse on the question mark in the upper right
  221.         corner of the window, and then on the area you need help
  222.         for. Now you will get a message box with a short help. By
  223.         clicking "OK", you get a detailed help.
  224.  
  225. 3.1.6   ELSA ColorControl
  226.  
  227.         The ELSA ColorControl tool allows you to correct the color
  228.         reproduction of your monitor. You will find this tool as a
  229.         tab in the display properties or as a menu item in the
  230.         WinmanSuite. You also will find a detailed description by
  231.         clicking the Help key.

  234. 3.2     Stereo function
  235.  
  236.         This driver provides Stereo functionality in combination
  237.         with stereo shutterglasses and a stereo-capable application.
  238.         To activate the stereo function select a stereo profile in 
  239.         the ELSA Application settings tab. You may also mark the 
  240.         stereo checkbox in ELSA Application Settings under "Advanced".
  241.         You will find detailed help about creating new Application
  242.         Settings profiles in the Application Settings helpfile.

  246. 4       Known Problems
  247.  
  248.         - On Pentium III systems your Windows NT 4.0 has to be 
  249.           updated to support the Pentium III enhancements.
  250.           Please run the utility CheckPentiumIIISupport.exe 
  251.           (shipped with this driver) to check if your system is 
  252.           properly configured.
  253.       Service Pack 5 already contains this driver.
  254.  
  255.         - On multiprocessor systems it may be necessary to install
  256.           Windows NT Service Pack 4 or 5 to get the driver started.
  257.           
  258.         - When updating the driver as Domain Administrator from 
  259.           version 4.2.3.84 or earlier please use setup.exe to
  260.           install the driver. Installation by inf-file may fail.
