  68. 2       Installation instructions
  69.  
  70. 2.1     Preparation
  71.  
  72.         Note: If there were already other graphics boards
  73.               installed, their referring "oemx.inf" and
  74.               "oemx.pnf" files (where "x" read as numbers) in
  75.               the INF subdirectory of your system have to be
  76.               deleted. This is to ensure that the Plug&Play
  77.               recognition of Windows 2000 is working properly.
  78.  
  79.         Copy all listed driver files to a formatted disk (or a
  80.         temporary directory). Uninstall all display adapter devices
  81.         under CONTROL PANEL/SYSTEM/HARDWARE/DEVICE MANAGER/DISPLAY
  82.         ADAPTERS. Remove your floppy disk and reboot your system.

  85. 2.2     Installation
  86.  
  87.         Windows 2000 uses Plug&Play functions to recognize your
  88.         display adapter. Here is how:
  89.  
  90.         1. Device recognized. The "Found New Hardware" wizard
  91.            will guide you.
  92.            - click "Next" - choose option
  93.            "Display a list of the known drivers ..."
  94.            - click "Next"
  95.            - choose "Display Adapters"
  96.            - click "Next"
  97.            - click "Have Disk..."
  98.            - choose the directory from (2.1)
  99.            - click "Ok"
  100.            - choose entry "ELSA Synergy II
  101.            - click "Next"
  102.            - click "Next"
  103.            - click "Yes".
  104.            Now the driver will be installed.
  105.            - click "Finish.

  107.         2. The installtion of the display driver is finished now.
  108.            Remove your floppy disk and reboot your system now.

  110.         Note: Depending on your monitor at the next reboot
  111.               Plug&Play will recognize and install a monitor
  112.               device.

  114. 2.3     Verification
  115.  
  116.         Open CONTROL PANEL/DISPLAY/SETTINGS. Verify that you can
  117.         read "Plug and Play Monitor on ELSA Synergy II".
  118.         You should now be able to use a resolution higher than
  119.         800x600.

  121. 2.4     Adjusting Refresh Frequencies
  122.  
  123.         Click "Advanced" Button on Display Properties Page. Go to
  124.         Monitor Properties Page and use the DropDown-List "Refresh
  125.         Frequency".
  126.  
  127. 2.5.    Display Driver Update with w2ksetup.exe
  128.  
  129.         For easy driver update you can use w2ksetup.exe simply by
  130.         doubleclicking on it in Windows Explorer.
  131.  
  132.         After installation the driver will be started automatically.
  133.         If this is not possible you will be asked to restart your
  134.         computer.
  135.  
  136.         If the driver cannot be installed a messagebox will be
  137.         displayed.
  138.  
  139. 2.5.1.  Commandline Parameters
  140.  
  141.         You can also control w2ksetup by commandline options.
  142.         The following options are available:
  143.  
  144.         SILENT    - No dialog boxes are displayed during (un)
  145.                     installation which would require user
  146.                     interaction.
  147.  
  148.         REBOOT    - After (un)installation the system will be
  149.                     automatically rebooted if necessary.
  150.  
  151.         UNINSTALL - All ELSA graphics board drivers will be
  152.                     uninstalled. A dialog box informs at the end if
  153.                     a restart is required.
  154.  
  155.         SERVICE   - Allows the user to specify the service to
  156.                     uninstall (e.g. EGLIIM).
  157.                     Without this option all ELSA graphics drivers
  158.                     will be uninstalled.
  159.                     This parameter has no influence on installation.

  162.        Examples:
  163.  
  164.        Installation:
  165.        - W2KSetup.exe SILENT REBOOT
  166.  
  167.                         Installs the ELSA driver for Windows 2000
  168.                         without user interaction. If necessary, the
  169.                         system will be rebooted automatically.
  170.                         Otherwise the driver will be started
  171.                         directly.
  172.  
  173.        Uninstallation:
  174.        - W2KSetup.exe UNINSTALL SILENT REBOOT SERVICE EGLIIM
  175.  
  176.                         Uninstalls the ELSA display driver for a
  177.                         GLoria II.
  178.                         If necessary, the system will be rebooted.
  179.

  181.        Note:    Be careful when using the manual uninstallation.
  182.                 Wrong usage could lead to an unstable system.

  185. 2.5.2. Exitcodes (for automated installation):
  186.  
  187.        The following exitcodes are returned by w2ksetup:
  188.  
  189.        -1 : Something went wrong without the driver being installed.
  190.             (e.g. no inf-file found)
  191.  
  192.         0 : (Un)Installation failed. Possible cause: Driver does not
  193.             match the graphics board.
  194.  
  195.         1 : Driver was (un)installed successfully.

  206.         The ELSA Application Settings allow you to configure the 3D
  207.         options of your ELSA GLoria graphics board. You will find
  208.         this tool as a tab in the display properties.
  209.         You also will find a detailed description by clicking the
  210.         Help key.

  212. 3.1.2   ELSA Info
  213.  
  214.         ELSA Info offers a quick view of all relevant information
  215.         about your hard- and software configuration. First of all,
  216.         this is a diagnostic tool, which should help you in solving
  217.         configuration problems of your graphics system.
  218.         You can redirect all shown information to file or printer.
  219.         The generated output will be helpful in getting quick
  220.         and efficient support from ELSA.
