[ Using the N-Bench Installer ]
Please read the "Software License Agreement" at the end of this file before using
the N-Bench installer.
[ About N-Bench ]
N-Bench is a CPU Benchmark program that is capable of displaying 3D graphics. It
consists of a "Demo mode" that plays back beautiful 3DCG movies and a "Benchmark mode"
that measures CPU performance. Read this file carefully before using N-Bench.
[ Special features of N-Bench Ver. 1.2 ]
N-Bench Ver 1.2 corresponds to the SSE2 instruction of the Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4.
Further, the two demonstration modes of "Light" and "Full specifications" have been
provided, so that N-Bench can be enjoyed even on a PC of the entry class. The
demonstration mode of the light version can be played back not only with a
high-performance video card, but also with an integrated chip set like the "Pro Savage
KM133" from VIA Technologies, the "SiS730S" from Silicon Integrated Systems, etc.
In the "Benchmark" mode, there is no difference between the light version and the
full specifications version.
[ In regard to the light version and the full specifications version ]
N-Bench Ver 1.2 has two demonstration modes for one application.
When N-Bench starts, it checks the PC environment, and when the VRAM is 16 MB or
integrated chip set is used, the demonstration of the light version starts
automatically, while the demonstration of the full specifications version starts when
the VRAM is 32 MB or more.
The difference between the demonstration mode of the light version and the full
specifications version is in the number of polygons, in the amount of texture, etc.
The full specifications version appears more real. The application is the same for
the light version and the full specifications version. Even when the VRAM is upgraded
from 16 MB to 32 MB, it is not necessary to reinstall N-Bench.
[ N-Bench Ver 1.2 Working Environment (light version ) ]
Computer equipped with the 700MHz AMD Duron(TM) processor
or 700MHz Intel(R) Pentium(R) III processor or greater
Microsoft(R) Windows(R) 98 (including the Second Edition)
Microsoft Windows Me
Microsoft DirectX(R) 7.0 or later
Free 64MB RAM or more
100MB of hard disk space or more
DirectX 7.0-compatible video card with 3D accelerator function with 16MB VRAM
or more
DirectX 7.0-compatible sound card
* For chip sets like the KM133, the SiS730S, etc., set the value for the "Frame
Buffer Size"
on the BIOS setting screen to 16 MB or more.
[ Recommended Environment (Full specifications) ]
The 800 Mhz AMD Athlon(TM) processor or greater
128MB RAM
Microsoft DirectX 8.0 or later
nVIDIA "GeForce2 MX" GPU with 32 MB VRAM or more
Color Display with 1280*1024 pixels.
Creative Technology Ltd. "Sound Blaster Live!"
[ N-Bench Installation Instructions ]
Load the N-Bench CD-ROM into your computer and click the "Install" button that appears
on the Setup screen. This will start the Setup program.
Follow the instructions on the screen to install the N-Bench software.
[ Caution at the time of installation ]
N-Bench can not be installed on a PC with less than 64 MB of RAM. The size of the
VRAM also is checked at the time of installation, and when the VRAM is 16 MB or
integrated chip set is used, and the warning "With the present system environment,
a part of the demonstration movie and the benchmark tests can not be executed because
of insufficient system resources" will be displayed. However, installation will be
performed normally.
[ Uninstalling N-Bench ]
To uninstall N-Bench, execute the installation program again using the N-Bench CD-ROM.
If you do not have the CD-ROM, N-Bench can be uninstalled according to the following
procedure.
(1) Click the "Start" button and display the "Settings". Then click "Control
Panel".
(2) Double-click the "Add or Delete Application" icon.
(3) Click "N-Bench" in the "Add or Delete" tab list box that appears in the "Add
or Delete Application Property" dialog box. Then click "Add or Delete".
(4) Check the message in the "File Deletion Confirmation" dialog box and then click
"OK".
* The uninstall sequence will commence. Please wait until the uninstall sequence
is completed.
(5) Click "OK".
[ Starting N-Bench ]
Once installed, N-Bench can be started by selecting "N-Bench" in the N-Bench Folder
that appears in the Start menu. To obtain an accurate measurement of CPU performance,
quit all other open applications. If your computer is connected to a network, turn
off the file sharing function.
It's a good idea to reboot your computer before starting N-Bench. The N-Bench CD-ROM
is not required to run the software.
[ About the N-Bench Functions ]
For information regarding the N-Bench functions and settings, go to the Help menu.
This menu can be displayed by clicking on the "Help" button in the N-Bench Main Panel.
[ Regions where N-Bench can be used ]
The regions where N-Bench can be used are limited to Asia, including Japan, the Pacific
area, Canada, and South America. Never use N-Bench in another area.
