- Bovine 2.6402 RC5 client for the Commodore Amiga
-
- This client requires:
-
- M68K:
-
- Amiga Workbench 2.04 or greater
- A 68020 or better processor
- AmiTCP v3 or other compatible stack (Miami, TermiteTCP)
- Should also work with iw225 with the emulation library. Untested.
- Please don't ask where to get the emul library as I have no clue at all.
-
- PPC:
-
- Amiga Workbench 3.0 or greater (you won't get the PPC board to work with less :))
- A 68030 or better AND a 603 or better (Tested on 604e)
- WarpOS version 7 or better. The Version 7 can run in parallel with
- Phase5's software without any problems at all. You can get WarpOS
- from http://www.haage-partner.com
- AmiTCP v3 or other compatible stack (Miami, TermiteTCP)
- Should also work with iw225 with the emulation library. Untested.
- Please don't ask where to get the emul library as I have no clue at all.
-

- -------------------------------------------
- IMPORTANT NOTICE REGARDING THE PPC CLIENT
- -------------------------------------------
-
- The PPC client doesn't respond to ctrl-c.
- The ONLY way to quit it is to create a file
- called "exitrc5.now" in the dir. That way
- the client quits. There is NO other way to
- quit it. Regard it as BETA.
-
- -------------------------------------------
-
- This client is probably only or interest to people with a 68040 or better,
- (or PPC), though every last CPU cycle that can be given to the RC5 effort
- is welcome.
-
- AmiTCP users should look for the socket.library->bsdsocket.library mapper.
- While I have not tested it myself, this client uses very primitive socket
- functions, and should work just fine. Check AmiNet for the mapper (sorry,
- but I don't know off hand what the name of the archive is).
-
- Original amiga port made by `caw', rewritten for 64bit by me.
- (quite a lot of changes had to be made)
-
- Don't forget to use a checkpointing file and to NEVER (I repeat: NEVER)
- run TWO clients with the SAME CHECKPOINTING FILE. I use
- ckpoint.rc5 and ckpoint.rc5_PPC for the two clients, which btw, can run
- perfectly with each other :) No problems at all. They share buffer files
- and all, but have seperate checkpointing files.
-
- Changes since the first release:
-
- We got a faster core (10% faster on 060, also seems a bit faster on 030/040)
- Thanx to Didier Levet for that!
-
- We moved from using as225 to amitcp's bsdsocket.
-
- We changed compiler! All of RC5-64 is now compiled with
- StormC/v3.0. The PPC client should be out now or very soon.
- Please run -benchmark and tell me what you think :)
-
- I hope you're running the client in the name of Team RC5 Amiga!
- If not, shame on you. Go stand in a corner. :)
-
- Our website is at http://www.cistron.nl/~ttavoly/rc5.
- If you're not on the mailing list, get on it.
-
- Another thing. People. DON'T forget about distributed. A lot of people
- I've spoken to didn't have a clue that the main page is at
- http://www.distributed.net/rc5 ... They thought that the url above
- was the "main" one and I get a lot of questions. "Where can I get
- a version for my mac/solaris/beos/wintel/whatever machine?".
- Everything is on distributed. Yes, EVEN the Amiga client.
- I see that page as the MAIN page because it is.
-
- There is a rc564.doc included. Although the AMIGA client isn't included
- there, all the options are important for the AMIGA client as well, yes
- ALL. Well, except multiprocessor and CPU type :).
-
- The "Nice" option is mapped like this:
-
- nice 0 = prio -20
- nice 1 = prio -10
- nice 2 = prio 0
-
- If you have problems with the AMIGA port, and think it's an AMIGA
- specific problem, mail blast@amiganet.org, or look me up as
- `Blast' or `Blast2' on ANet #Amiga, server example: irc.amiganet.org
-
- Well, that's all folks :) Until next time :) (which will probably be very soon...)
