  1. Bovine 2.6402 RC5 client for the Commodore Amiga

  3. This client requires:

  5. M68K:

  7.    Amiga Workbench 2.04 or greater
  8.    A 68020 or better processor
  9.    AmiTCP v3 or other compatible stack (Miami, TermiteTCP)
  10.    Should also work with iw225 with the emulation library. Untested.
  11.    Please don't ask where to get the emul library as I have no clue at all.

  15.    Amiga Workbench 3.0 or greater (you won't get the PPC board to work with less :))
  16.    A 68030 or better AND a 603 or better (Tested on 604e)
  17.    WarpOS version 7 or better. The Version 7 can run in parallel with
  18.    Phase5's software without any problems at all. You can get WarpOS
  19.    from http://www.haage-partner.com
  20.    AmiTCP v3 or other compatible stack (Miami, TermiteTCP)
  21.    Should also work with iw225 with the emulation library. Untested.

  26.  IMPORTANT NOTICE REGARDING THE PPC CLIENT

  29. The PPC client doesn't respond to ctrl-c.
  30. The ONLY way to quit it is to create a file
  31. called "exitrc5.now" in the dir. That way
  32. the client quits. There is NO other way to
  33. quit it. Regard it as BETA.

  37. This client is probably only or interest to people with a 68040 or better,
  38. (or PPC), though every last CPU cycle that can be given to the RC5 effort
  39. is welcome.

  41. AmiTCP users should look for the socket.library->bsdsocket.library mapper.
  42. While I have not tested it myself, this client uses very primitive socket
  43. functions, and should work just fine.  Check AmiNet for the mapper (sorry,
  44. but I don't know off hand what the name of the archive is).

  46. Original amiga port made by `caw', rewritten for 64bit by me.
  47. (quite a lot of changes had to be made)

  49. Don't forget to use a checkpointing file and to NEVER (I repeat: NEVER)
  50. run TWO clients with the SAME CHECKPOINTING FILE. I use
  51. ckpoint.rc5 and ckpoint.rc5_PPC for the two clients, which btw, can run
  52. perfectly with each other :) No problems at all. They share buffer files
  53. and all, but have seperate checkpointing files.

  57. We got a faster core (10% faster on 060, also seems a bit faster on 030/040)

  60. We moved from using as225 to amitcp's bsdsocket.

  62. We changed compiler! All of RC5-64 is now compiled with
  63. StormC/v3.0. The PPC client should be out now or very soon.

  72. Another thing. People. DON'T forget about distributed. A lot of people
  73. I've spoken to didn't have a clue that the main page is at
  74. http://www.distributed.net/rc5 ... They thought that the url above
  75. was the "main" one and I get a lot of questions. "Where can I get
  76. a version for my mac/solaris/beos/wintel/whatever machine?".
  77. Everything is on distributed. Yes, EVEN the Amiga client.
  78. I see that page as the MAIN page because it is.

  80. There is a rc564.doc included. Although the AMIGA client isn't included
  81. there, all the options are important for the AMIGA client as well, yes
  82. ALL. Well, except multiprocessor and CPU type :).
