GSE stands for "Generic SavedGame Editor". A program specifically
designed to edit "SAVED GAME" files. This allows the game player to
change many aspects of the game, so that playing becomes easier or
offers many new possibilities.
When you save a game that you are playing, the computer will store
all of the information about that game to a "SAVEDGAME" file. That
file will contain all of the information on your progress in the game
so that when you restart the game you will begin right where you had
stopped. The GSE allows the game player easy to access the
"SAVEDGAME" file and you will be able to change the game information.
You always should be able to change something you does not like in
games. Users have the right to edit games because they paid money
for them: the game designers create the game, but the users buy it.
Editing isn't cheating, it is getting all your money's worth.

In order to run GSE you need a 100% IBM compatible computer with
80286 or better CPU, DOS 3.1 or higher, VGA display and at least 300K
bytes of free conventional memory.

The complete GSE shareware evaluation package should contain the
following files. Please ensure that each file is present. If any of
these files are missing then the package is not complete and is not
suitable for distribution to others.

HOW TO INSTALL AND START GSE

It's easy! Simply copy or extract all the files to a directory created
to hold the GSE files and start the program.
Assuming you would like to install GSE in C:\GAMES\GSE
- Change to the directory were GSE should be installed.
If the directory does not exist, create it. For example:
(assuming you are on drive C:) CD\
MD C:\GAMES\GSE
CD C:\GAMES\GSE
- Copy all files into the GSE directory. For example:
(assuming you are copying all files from floppy drive A:)
COPY A:\*.*
- All necessary files should be in directory C:\GAMES\GSE by now.
- To run the program type "GSE" followed by the "enter" key.
CAUTION: It is very important that you do not use GSE on the original
program diskette. Use GSE from your hard drive and kept all
of your original diskettes in safe place.
OVERVIEW
▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀
The program is mainly arranged in three sections: Load, Edit and Save
(the save option is crippled in the unregistered version).
GSE starts with a start-up process, checking for the correct system
compatibility and unauthorized file modification (virus). An "about"
window will appear on your screen with the product license
information.
You start your session with the "game selection" window, where you
can choose the game you want to edit the "savedgame(s)". Now you
have to select your "savedgame" file to be edit and jump direct into
the editor! Simply edit the "savedgame" and finally save the updated
values or choose another file/game to edit.
COMMAND LINE PARAMETER
▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀
There are several options you can specify using command line
arguments. You can find detailed description in this section or run
"GSE -?" to get a summery on line.
-HELP
Display a summery of all commandline parameters for the GSE software.
-REGISTER
If you find GSE useful and would like to continue using the program
please register.
To register GSE fill out the the order form (REGISTER.DOC) and mail
(or faster: fax) this form to the address given in the order form.
To help in the speedy processing of your registration, all items on
the registration form should be filled out and be correct without
error.
After we received your registration fee, you will be sent a
registration code to disable any registration limits. With your
received code you will be able to create your registration key for
the GSE program, just type:
GSE -R [enter] (at the DOS prompt of course)
Please also read and understand the COPYRIGHT NOTICE, DISCLAIMER OF
WARRANTY and LICENSING AGREEMENT in this documentation.
Some shareware disk distributors or bulletin board users may have
charged you for an evaluation copy of this program. These fees are
separate from the registration fee for this program, and you must pay
the normal registration prices regardless of how you received the
program.
-NOCHECK
With this command you skip the start-up process (including the virus
check) and jumps direct into GSE. This will speed up the login
process of the program but is not recommend, because errors will
occur if GSE is not installed correctly.

[Opts ] Options number of each game editor.
[Ver ] Version number of each game editor.
If an editor gets some new/add-on options afterwards,
this number will be upgraded.

After you have selected your game - you will be asked for the
"savedgame" file name.

Change to the (game) directory where the "savedgame(s)" is located
and select your file.
ERROR Situations:
Before a file is loaded into memory, GSE will check for the right
"savedgame" format. If the verify fails, you will be asked to
continue or not. Wrong "savedgame" formats can be caused by
updated, other language game versions (other, new, more information
are stored into the "savedgame" file) or you selected a "savedgame"
of the wrong game and maybe other reasons... In the case you want
continue with a failed format, you should always make a backup of
this file!

Welcome to main part of GSE - the editor section. This program is
able to handle following edit methods:

NOTE: The ability to make large changes in your characters
statistics, that the game designers never intended for you to do,
can bomb the game out. Other games are more stable, but even then
huge changes will bomb your game or cause unusual things to happen
while you are playing. You should start editing your game with
small changes, and make a backup of the "savedgame" in case errors
do occur.
EDITOR INFORMATION

Before you start to edit your "savedgame(s)" you always should study
this text! It contains helpful and important information about the
actual game.
It also contains lots of secret game information such as ingame cheat
codes, level passwords, game hints & more.
PRINTER OPTION
With the [P] key you can print out the game information (printer port
auto detection).
CHARACTER SELECTION

[ F2 ] Character Selection Menu, direct selection with [ALT+F1-10]
If a game supports multiplayers/-characters, you can edit each
character with this editor! Press the [F2] key to pop up this
Selection-Menu where you can choose the character to be edit.

Be careful with the option "maximize a value", because many games
could not handle too high values.
SAVE

Finally, you can always save or abort the editor with [ ESC ] key.
If no value/data was changed, nothing will be updated and no backup
file (also if selected) will be created.
The Save-Option for UNREGISTERED user is crippled; you have to win a
small game ("Guess A Number") to enable the option. This limitation
is removed in the REGISTERED version.

■ Out of memory
GSE may run out of memory if your computer is configured with
thousands of bytes of environment variables. Simply check how much
memory you have free by running CHKDSK or MEM.
■ ERROR: GSE.DAT not found
GSE did not find his program data! GSE.EXE and GSE.DAT must be
located in the same directory.
