Mortal Kombat III for the PC (DEMO) FAQ
By: Ratman (rat@rat.org) <---- Send additions/corrections here.
FAQ Revision 3 (October 19, 1995)
DISCLAIMER: Just because I wrote this, and carry the demo on
my FTP site, DOES NOT mean that I do tech support.
DO NOT write me asking for help to get it to work. It's a damn demo.
Of course it's got bugs!
THERE IS NOW A FAQ ON THE FULL VERSION. If you have the full version of MK3
for the PC, you should read that. http://rat.org/mk/mk3ratpc.faq
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
What's in it? ---------------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
- Playable characters: Jax and Sheeva.
- Backgrounds: Church and the Rooftop.
- Music: none
- No "mercy"
- No Jax's boot stomp fatality
- There are VS screen codes (like no block, no throws) that you can
cycle though in 2 player mode, but none of the known ones seem to work.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
System requirements ---------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
- DOS. Don't run it in Windows like a moron.
- 8MB of memory (XMS)
-- If you only have 8MB, you need to have all 8 of em free.
This means disable smartdrive.
-- If you have 9MB or more of free XMS memory, you will see a message
that says "Please Wait... Preloading Fighter Data".
--- *** IMPORTANT*** IF YOU DO NOT SEE THIS MESSAGE,
THE SOUND QUALITY WILL BE VERY POOR.
- 500K or so of convential memory. It's not picky.
- 10.7 MB hard drive space (6.4MB for the zip file)
- Joystick optional
- One of the following sound cards:
Soundblaster, Pro, 16, AWE32
Roland RAP-10
Media Vision Audio Spectrum
Gravis Ultrasound
NMC Wavejammer
ESS ES688
Soundscape

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Installation ----------------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
- unzip the file (dont' forget pkunzip -d if you are in DOS)
- run "setsound" to setup your sound card.
- run "mk3" to play!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bugs ------------------------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
- If one player is ducking, the other player can walk right though them.
- If the loser gets defeated in the corner, many times they will fall over
and disappear.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Notes -----------------------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
- Hit "Control" or "pause" to pause the game.
- If you want to change the keys (up arrow=jump), after you redefine them,
you have to quit and run the game again for them to take effect.
- The sound overlaps if another sound is playing.
Try this just for fun: hold run and tap the controller forward.
- The difficulty level does not affect anything until after a few matches.
- MK3.EXE contains text that includes the character endings.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Finish him! -----------------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
- After it says "Finish Him", you won't be able to move.
You can duck, stand up, block, attack and do special moves.
- If you just sit there, you will automatically do a babality,
even if you hit block during the round.
- You can do any fatality/friendship (except Jax's boot stomp) if you are
at the right distance after you win (since won't be able to move after it
says "Finish Him").
- If you lose against the computer, they sometimes do fatalities
- The computer can do animalites.
Only Sheeva's anamality has been confirmed.
Jax:
- Grow and stomp: rather than doing the fatality,
Jax will go into his winning pose.
RUN-BL-R-R-LK (far away)
- Slice and dice: similar to the arcade, but the body parts fall
a little below the screen.
U-D-F-U-BL
- Friendship: just like the arcade.
LK-RUN-RUN-LK
Sheeva:
- Skin rip: the skelaton is a pure black shadow (like noob saibot)
and it dissapears after a few seconds.
Hold HK (B-F-F)
- Nail Pound: just like the arcade.
F-D-D-F-LP
- Friendship: when the plates spin, it sounds like a helocopter.
F-F-D-F-pause-HP
This is very tricky. She will do the fireball most of the time.

useful information about the demo.
