MP3 Station version 0.91 Beta
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
written by Scott Francis

Background:
^^^^^^^^^^^
Well, this is probably the same story that most people have
already stated. There were too many things I didn't like about the
other WinPlay3 frontends, either I didn't like the look, they didn't
have all the features, or they were too big to download...so I
decided to do something about it. Code my own frontend. So here are
the fruits of my labour. MP3 Station.
Features:
^^^^^^^^^
- FULL control of WinPlay3
- Accurate Time Display
- Great Console Player
- ID3 Tag Editing
- WinPlay3 is invisible to the user
- Create and Modify WinPlay3 Playlist files (*.m3u)
- Volume Control
- Bitrate/Time display
- Repeat tracks
- Right-click Popup Menus
- "Explorer" look and feel
- Progress bar
- Importing/Exporting of museArc playlists
- Long File Name Support
- Ability to set alarms
- Export playlists to HTML Tables
- Works in the system tray
- Customizable Options Menu
- Written in C++
- Smaller memory footprint
- No runtime libraries!
- And More!
Recomemded System Requirements:
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
- Pentium 60
- 16MB RAM
- Windows 95/Windows NT 4.0 (Memphis compatibility is not guarateed)
- WinPlay3 version 2.0
- Sound Card (preferably 16-bit)
Installation:
^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Installation of MP3 Station is simple. If you downloaded the
InstallShield version, just run setup.exe and it will launch the setup
program. If you downloaded just the program itself, simply unzip it
into its own directory and run it from Windows. Before running MP3
Station, please turn off Repeat in WinPlay3, as it will confuse MP3
Station's own repeat abilities if it is left on.
MP3 Station:
^^^^^^^^^^^^
When you first run the program, the options menu will come up
so you can enter in all of your personal preferences. It is important
you have WinPlay3 version 2.0. Earlier versions of WinPlay3 will not
work with MP3 Station. After filling out the options, you will enter
the main program.
The main program consists of the Playlist Box, the File List
Box and the MP3 Information Box. It is pretty easy to figure out. By
holding the mouse over the various buttons on the toolbar, it displays
a tool tip.
Notes:
^^^^^^
- This program is not guaranteed to work with Windows97/Memphis,
however, it should be compatible with existing versions of Windows 95
and Windows NT 4.0
- Keep in mind, THIS IS A BETA! There will more than likely be bugs
in the program. E-mail me at stereo@netcom.ca if you think you've
found a bug in the program.
The Future:
^^^^^^^^^^^
Here are some ideas that I've got for the next version of MP3
Station:
- Frontend for l3enc and l3dec.
- Better time display accuracy
- More options
- Possible fast forward and rewind
- Customizable fonts
- Drag and Drop
- Command line support
- File associations
- Multiple open playlists
If you've got any ideas for the next version of MP3 Station, e-mail me
at stereo@netcom,ca, and I'll get back to you.
Thanks:
^^^^^^^
Hmm...the people I'd like to thank :) I'd like to thank the
IRC channel #WinProg for answering some of my questions. Also thanks
to my beta testers Jon Moody, Gord Lamb, and [daz]. And last thank
you goes to Brian Lamb, who answered all of my various C questions time after
time.
