  17. <p>     Singer Ruben Blades has conquered the Spanish-speaking
  18. world with his mix of salsa and social consciousness, and won
  19. over the rest of the globe with his movie roles. Now Blades
  20. faces the toughest audience yet--his native Panama, where last
  21. month Blades began investigating a possible run for the
  22. Panamanian presidency. While not formally declared, the
  23. Harvard-trained lawyer surely notices the piddling popularity
  24. of current President Guillermo Endara. Presidente Blades might
  25. not be music to the ears of the U.S. State Department, however.
  26. His song Tiburon compares interlopers in Latin America to a
  27. marauding shark.
