  17. <p>     Seven months after he resigned the presidency of the
  18. Czechoslovak federation to protest its disintegration, Vaclav
  19. Havel is a President once more. Elected to a five-year term by
  20. the parliament of the four-week-old Czech Republic, Havel will
  21. preside from the same office in Prague's Hradcany Castle over
  22. about two-thirds of his former country. The onetime playwright
  23. and erstwhile communist-era dissident promised to maintain a
  24. "moral dimension" in his government and to serve as a "more
  25. experienced and wiser" statesman in promoting accord with his
  26. nation's new neighbor, Slovakia.
