  15. <p>     RESIGNATION ANNOUNCED. By Morris ("Mo") Udall, 68, 16-term
  16. Democratic Congressman from Arizona; owing to Parkinson's
  17. disease and injuries suffered in a fall at his home in January;
  18. effective May 4; in Washington. A staunch environmentalist,
  19. Udall has been chairman of the House Interior and Insular
  20. Affairs Committee since 1977. One bill he sponsored was the 1980
  21. Alaska Lands Act, which created 104.3 million acres of national
  22. parks, wildlife refuges and other protected areas. Udall sought
  23. the presidency in 1976 but lost the Democratic nomination to
  24. Jimmy Carter.
