<p> It is an implied truism in the world of music that to be
a blues great you need a friend called pain_a lifetime of broken
hearts and cheap red-wine hangovers, an acquaintance with the
sort of suffering that doesn't result from Nintendo
deprivation. But at 10, Australia's NATHAN CAVALERI is proof to
the contrary. Already a big-name blues guitarist in his
homeland, Nathan is currently claiming fame Stateside.
Commenting on his performance at a San Francisco concert where
he received a standing ovation, a newspaper noted that the
prepubescent player upstaged senior and more celebrated
participants, including the Allman Brothers Band and John Lee
Hooker. "I just close my eyes, and I play," explains Nathan
self-effacingly. "Everything I feel goes into my guitar." Soon
that wellspring of emotion will have to translate into screen
presence. Nathan's snagged a film deal with New Line to play a
kiddie rocker who revives a band's ailing career.
