<p> DIED. JOSEPH PULITZER JR., 80, editor and publisher; in St.
Louis, Missouri. A grandson of the original Joseph Pulitzer,
Joe Jr. built on his forebear's achievements. He inherited a
company that consisted of one newspaper, a television station
and a radio station in St. Louis, and in time acquired papers
in three states, six more TV stations and another radio station.
In addition, Joe Jr. (he was christened Joseph III but adopted
the "junior" after his grandfather's death) assembled one of
the world's finest private art collections. It included works
by Picasso, Monet and Van Gogh, many of which he donated to
the St. Louis Art Museum.
