By GINIA BELLAFANTE

Before she descends into columbine-collecting madness, Shakespeare's
Ophelia is a sweet-tempered, obedient girl, the sort who wouldn't,
for example, even think of behaving untowardly on live TV. So
it will be interesting to see how SINEAD the-pop-star-who-doth-protest-too-much
O'CONNOR manages in her role as Elsinore's docile damsel in
an upcoming Dublin production of Hamlet. With luck, she'll take
on the Bard more successfully than she plays bard. Last week
an Irish newspaper ran a Sinead poem that reads, "Stop hurting
me please./ Saying mean things about me." Fine. Write better.
