  11. Forces (PPF) and worked to assert civilian control over them;
  12. the PPF is divided into the National Police, Maritime Service,
  13. and National Air Service; the Judicial Technical Police serve
  14. under the Attorney General; the Council of Public Security and
  15. National Defense under Menalco SOLIS in the Office of the
  16. President is analogous to the US National Security Council; the
  17. Institutional Protection Service under Carlos BARES is attached
  18. to the presidency

  20. <p>Manpower availability: males age 15-49 671,059; fit for
  21. military service 461,471 (1993 est.); no conscription
