- <p> Critics have described her as a more beautiful Sissy Spacek.
- but if you look closely--at the angular geometry of her face,
- at the short, wispy red hair--SUZY AMIS is really a more beautiful
- Eric Stoltz. It is this stylish, androgynous quality that helped
- land the former Ford fashion model her first leading film role,
- in The Ballad of Little Jo, a highly unusual western--a feminist
- shoot-'em-up. Suzy is Josephine Monaghan, a mid-19th century
- East Coast socialite banished by her family when she has a baby
- out of wedlock. She heads for the frontier, only to find that
- women are not exactly treated equally with men there. So Josephine
- decides to spend the rest of her life as a man. Suzy, who admits
- that she was a "bad model," rigorously practiced shooting, riding
- and sheep herding to prepare for Jo. And, she adds, "I walked
- around behind a lot of men."
