  22. A)         HOW TO UPGRADE FROM A PREVIOUS VERSION
  23. ---------------------------------------------------------------------

  25. 1. Uncompress the WPSFWxxx.ZIP file to a 720K or 1.44MB diskette
  26.    (You'll need PKUNZIP version 2.04e or later to uncompress this
  27.     file.  You may obtain the latest PKUNZIP version from the
  28.     PCTOOLS disk).
  29.    If installing from hard disk, create a directory and copy
  30.    all the files to it.
  31.  
  32. 2. Restore the original Windows shell, PROGMAN.EXE by placing the
  33.    following line in the SYSTEM.INI file:
  34.  
  35.    shell=progman.exe
  36.  
  37.    Comment out any other "shell=" lines by placing a ';' (semi-colon)
  38.    in front of the line.
  39.  
  40. 3. Backup your original WPSHELL.INI file in the \WINDOWS directory.
  41.    This is done just as a precaution so that you can always restore
  42.    your original desktop if you miss a step.  You can name the backup
  43.    file anything you want (i.e. WPSHELL.BAK or WPSBAK.INI).
  44.  
  45. 4. Boot Windows 3.1x, and run "A:\SETUP.EXE" from the diskette (or hard
  46.    drive).
  47.  
  48. 5. Press the "Upgrade" pushbutton in the main setup dialog.
  49.  
  50. 6. Enter destination directory where current release is stored.
  51.  
  52. 7. Select which language resources you want to install in your system.
  53.    Press ENTER if you just want the default.  (Remeber that for you
  54.    to use the different language resources, you need to change the
  55.    "sLanguage" key in the "Intl" section of the SYSTEM.INI file.  Read
  56.    the README.1ST file for more information).
  57.  
  58. 8. After the installation has successfully finished, restart
  59.    Windows so that the new shell will take effect.

  64. B)                  HOW TO DO A NEW INSTALL
  65. ---------------------------------------------------------------------

  67. 1. Uncompress the WPSFWxxx.ZIP file to a 720K or 1.44MB diskette

  74. 2. While in Windows 3.1x, run "A:\SETUP.EXE" from the diskette (or

  79. 4. Choose Express install or Custom install and a destination
  80.    directory.  The installation program backs up any changes
  81.    to Windows *.INI files and does not modify your current
  82.    PROGMAN desktop *.GRP files.

  84. 5. Select which language resources you want to install in your system.
  85.    Press ENTER if you just want the default.  (Remeber that for you
  86.    to use the different language resources, you need to change the
  87.    "sLanguage" key in the "Intl" section of the SYSTEM.INI file.  Read

  95. C)  "WPSHELL.INI MISSING OR CORRUPTED" MESSAGE AFTER INSTALLATION
  96. --------------------------------------------------------------------

  98.    If you get the error message "WPSHELL.INI missing or corrupted"
  99. when re-starting Windows after the WPSFWIN installation has completed,
  100. then do the following:
  101.  
  102. 1. Edit the SYSTEM.INI file in your Windows directory and restore
  103.    "shell=progman.exe" line by removing the ";" (semi-colon) at the
  104.    beginning of the line.  Place a ";" (semi-colon) at the beginning
  105.    of the "shell=<path>\wpshell.exe" line.
  106.  
  107. 2. Start Windows and run CONVINI.EXE from the "File"->"Run" menu item
  108.    in Program Manager.  CONVINI.EXE is stored in your WPSFWIN destination
  109.    directory (by default C:\WPSHELL). IMPORTANT: Answer "No" when asked
  110.    if want to overwrite current WPSHELL.INI file.
  111.  
  112. 3. After CONVINI.EXE has completed successfully, exit program, and
  113.    exit Windows.
  114.  
  115. 4. Undo the changes made in step (1), and restart Windows again.  This
  116.    time WPSFWIN should come up successfully and with no error messages.
  117.  
  118.    If you still get the error message, or CONVINI.EXE did not complete
  119. successfully, then you might have to re-install WPSFWIN as a "New"
  120. install to create a new desktop file (and loose all current changes).

  124. --------------------------------------------------------------------
  125. D)        NO DRIVES OBJECTS AND TEMPLATES IN MY DESKTOP
  126. --------------------------------------------------------------------

  128.    If you are upgrading from any version below 1.3, then you might
  129. need to run PMTOWP.EXE manually after the installation has completed
  130. in order to get the "Drives" objects and templates.
  131.  
  132.    If when you restart Windows w/WPSFWIN you do not see a "Drives"
  133. folder inside the "Windows System" folder, then you need to follow
  134. these steps (unless you do not want the drives objects):
  135.  
  136. 1. Either from Program Manager or WPSFWIN, run PMTOWP.EXE (stored
  137.    in the WPSFWIN destination directory).
  138.  
  139. 2. Select the "Selected Group" radio button.  Select any group folder
  140.    you want (it does not really matter which).
  141.    Check on the "System Folder" and "Templates Folder" checkboxes.
  142.  
  143. 3. Press the "Migrate" pushbutton.  Then, press the "Done" pushbutton
  144.    when the migration has complted.
  145.  
  146. 4. Exit Windows (without saving the desktop! very important!!), then
  147.    restart Windows again.
  148.  
  149. 5. Now, PMTOWP has create a duplicate "Program Manager Folder", "Windows
  150.    System" folder, and "Templates" folder.  If you did not move these
  151.    folders from their original positions, PMTOWP will place them exactly
  152.    right on top of each other.  Therefore, to remove the unwanted
  153.    folders, drag & drop the above mentioned folders from their current
  154.    locations and you'll see another folder underneath them.
  155.    For the "Program Manager Folder", delete the new one.  For the
  156.    "Windows System" folder, delete the old one.  For the "Templates"
  157.    folder, delete the old one.

  159. 6. Now you can re-arrange the folders to your content and save the
  160.    desktop by selecting right mouse button on the desktop and clicking
  161.    on "Save desktop".  You are now done.

  166. E)            AFTER INSTALLATION HAS COMPLETED...

  169.    Read the README.1ST file copied into the destination directory.
  170. You can also erase the WPSHELL.ZIP file since it is no longer needed.

  172.    Also, read LICENSE.TXT file for details on IBM EWS license
  173. agreement.
