Mail*Link¿ Remote Mech Warrior & Avenger
Installing Avenger Support
To establish Avenger support, simple run the
batch file AVMECH2.BAT
ex: A:> AVMECH2
This will perform two actions:
1. COPY AVENGER.DLL \MECH2\GIDDI
2. COPY AVENGER.CPC \MECH2\GIDDI
You must hit ESC once inside Mech2 and select the
Cockit Controls menu item. Then select Spaceball
Avenger from the menu. If you wish, you can also select
the Mouse, it will work concurrently with the Avenger.
Please disable FlightStick if it is highlighted in red by
clicking on it with the mouse. It may produce undesirable
results by conflicting with the Avenger.
Installing for a Custom Path
If you did not select the default path setting
when installing MechWarrior, you must provide the path
you chose when running the batch file.
ex: A:> AVMECH2 /GAMES/3D/MECH2
This will install Avenger support in that directory
Controlling the MechWarrior
The following paragraph will assume you are familiar with
the device, and namely, the six individual axes.
TX Turn legs left, right (pull left, push right)
TY Jump (pull up - if jump jets available)
TZ Throttle up, down (C button must be held)
RX If D Button not pressed - torso pitch (look up, down)
If D Button pressed - pilot pitch
RY If D Button not pressed - torso turn (look left, right)
If D Button pressed - pilot turn
RZ NOT USED
BUTTON A Weapon Cycle
BUTTON B Weapon Fire
BUTTON C Enable Throttle control (used with TZ)
BUTTON D Enable Pilot control (turn pilots head)
BUTTON E Toggles Through Targets
BUTTON F Nearest Enemy
Remapping the Avenger Controls
Unlike most games supported by the Avenger, there is no
configuration file to allow the user to remap buttons and
change the feel of the game. However, you can edit the controls.
Please refer to the Mech II instructions for remapping input
device (Cockpit Controls - Install Guide page 19).
By default, the Mech unit will recenter itself if no pressure
is applied to the Avenger.
You can change this to allow it to maintain its' orientation
by changing Pitch and Yaw to Turn Left/Turn Right and Look Up/Look
Down.
These items are listed under the Buttons menu, since they are
digital as opposed to analog. The AVENGER.DLL will set these
accordingly to motion, and they will generate the same effect
as a keystroke. You may find the response is a bit slower, and
you may need to use one of the Buttons for recentering so you
don't lose your orientation between the legs and torso turning.
If you have any comments or suggestions, send email to
jeffp@spacetec.com or neilm@spacetec.com.
We welcome your ideas and will respond quickly.
