  23. What's in the distribution?
  24. =======================================================================
  25. This distribution contains Glide, Glide3, Direct3D drivers for Voodoo2
  26. Based 3D Accelerators and the Voodoo2 Control Panel Applet.
  27.  
  28. This distribution should be used by all OEM's shipping boards for
  29. the Windows 95/98 platform.  It is suggested that the files in this kit
  30. be placed on a driver CD in uncompressed (unzipped) format.
  31.  
  32. Anti-Aliasing for Direct 3D has been turned on by default.
  33.

  67. =======================================================================

  69. Requirements

  72. - Windows 95 or Windows 98
  73. - PC with a Pentium II, Pentium Pro, Pentium or similar processor
  74. - One free PCI slot (or two free PCI slots for SLI)
  75. - 16MB of RAM or more Suggested
  76.

  78. Installation
  79. ------------
  80. The installation below can vary depending on which version of Windows
  81. is installed.  To determine the Windows 95 version click Start, 
  82. Settings, Control Panel. Double-click on the system icon. If the 
  83. Windows version is 4.00.950b, Windows 95 OEM SR2 is running.

  86. Existing Drivers Installed or PCI Multimedia Device shown in Device Mgr
  87. -----------------------------------------------------------------------
  88. 1) Start Windows and extract the drivers to a temporary directory.
  89.  
  90. 2) Open Device Manager (Start, Settings, Control Panel, System)
  91.  
  92. 3) Locate the existing reference to the card it will be listed as:
  93.  
  94.        Reference Card: Other Devices / PCI Multimedia Device or
  95.                Sound, Video, Game Controllers / Voodoo2
  96.  
  97.    NOTE: In an SLI configiration (2 Voodoo2 cards) you only need to
  98.    select one card to update.
  99.  
  100. 4) Double Click on the card, then click the driver Tab
  101.  
  102.      Windows 95 Standard Release users: Click "Change Driver" and choose
  103.                                         "Have Disk"
  104.               Windows 95 OEM SR2 users: Click "Update Driver" then click
  105.                                         the Next Button.  Click "Other
  106.                                         Locations" 
  107.                       Windows 98 users: Click "Update Driver" then click
  108.                                         the Next Button twice on the
  109.                                         Detection Dialog Box. Ensure that
  110.                                         "Specify a Location" is checked and
  111.                                         "Microsoft Windows Update" is not
  112.                                         checked. Click Browse to continue.
  113.  
  114. 5) Point the driver location to where the files are extracted to and click
  115.    OK.  
  116.  
  117.      Windows Standard Release 95 users: Select "Voodoo2 3D Accelerator" 
  118.                                         from the List and click OK.
  119.                                         Click OK again to save changes in
  120.                                         Device Manager.
  121.               Windows 95 OEM SR2 Users: Click on Finish to continue.
  122.                       Windows 98 users: Click on Next to continue.
  123.  
  124. 6) You MAY then be prompted to insert the "Voodoo2 Drivers for Windows 9X"
  125.    Disk.  Again, point to the path you extracted the files to and press OK.
  126.  
  127. 7) Windows will copy the drivers. Reboot the system when prompted
  128.  
  129. 8) Install DirectX 5.0 or higher.  (If not already installed)
  130.

  132.  
  133. No Current Drivers Installed (Single Board and SLI)
  134. ---------------------------------------------------
  135.  
  136. Single Board
  137. ============
  138.  
  139. 1) Start Windows and extract the drivers to a temporary directory.
  140.  
  141. 2) Shutdown Windows, Power off the system and install your Voodoo2
  142.    3D board into a PCI slot. 
  143.  
  144. 3) Restart Windows after hardware installation.
  145.  
  146. 4) Windows will detect a "PCI Multimedia Device", you need to:
  147.  
  148.      Windows 95 Standard Release users: Select "Use Driver from Mfr"
  149.                                         and click OK
  150.               Windows 95 OEM SR2 users: Click the Next Button on the
  151.                                         Detection Dialog Box. Then click
  152.                                         "Other Locations"
  153.                       Windows 98 users: Click the Next Button twice on the
  154.                                         Detection Dialog Box. Ensure that
  155.                                         "Specify a Location" is checked and
  156.                                         "Microsoft Windows Update" is not
  157.                                         checked. Click Browse to continue.
  158.  
  159. 5) Point the driver location to where the files are extracted to and click
  160.    OK.  (Windows 98: You will need to click on Next to continue)
  161.  
  162. 6) You MAY then be prompted to insert the "Voodoo2 Drivers for Windows 9X"
  163.    Disk.  Enter the path the drivers are extracted to and press OK.
  164.  
  165. 7) Windows will copy the drivers. Reboot the system when prompted
  166.  
  167. 8) Install DirectX 5.0 or higher.  (If not already installed)

  170. SLI (Two Voodoo2 Boards with SLI cable)
  171. =======================================
  172.  
  173. 1) Start Windows and extract the drivers to a temporary directory.
  174.  
  175. 2) Shutdown Windows, Power off the system and install your Voodoo2
  176.    3D boards into PCI slots next to each other
  177.  
  178. 3) Connect the SLI cable to both boards.
  179.  
  180. 4) Restart the system and Windows after hardware installation.
  181.  
  182. 5) Windows will detect a "PCI Multimedia Device", you need to:
  183.  
  184.      Windows 95 Standard Release users: Select "Use Driver from Mfr"
  185.                                         and click OK
  186.               Windows 95 OEM SR2 users: Click the Next Button on the
  187.                                         Detection Dialog Box. Then click
  188.                                         "Other Locations"
  189.                       Windows 98 users: Click the Next Button twice on the
  190.                                         Detection Dialog Box. Ensure that
  191.                                         "Specify a Location" is checked and
  192.                                         "Microsoft Windows Update" is not
  193.                                         checked. Click Browse to continue.
  194.  
  195. 6) Point the driver location to where the files are extracted to and click
  196.    OK.  (Windows 98: You will need to click on Next to continue)
  197.  
  198. 7) You MAY then be prompted to insert the "Voodoo2 Drivers for Windows 9X"
  199.    Disk.  Enter the path the drivers are extracted to and press OK.
  200.  
  201. 8) Windows will copy the drivers. When prompted to reboot the system, 
  202.    click No. You may be asked to reboot several more times. Manually 
  203.    restart the system by clicking Start, Shutdown and Restart.

  205. 9) Install DirectX 5.0 or higher.  (If not already installed)
  206.

  208.  
  209. Troubleshooting
  210. ---------------
  211.  
  212. ####

  214. Problem: After installing this driver, the Control panel applet I had
  215. for a Voodoo Graphics card is gone.
  216.  
  217. Resolution: The Voodoo2 drivers will uninstall *ANY* Voodoo Graphics 
  218. drivers.  This is to ensure only Voodoo2 drivers are on the system.
  219.  
  220. ####
  221.  
  222. Problem: After installing Voodoo2 drivers, old DOS Glide games do not work 
  223. or stop working correctly.
  224.  
  225. Resolution:  Find the file V2-Auto.inf located with the Voodoo2 installation
  226. file using Explorer and right-click.  On the pop-down menu, select Install.
  227. Reboot the computer for changes to take effect.  This will update the 
  228. Autoexec.bat with environment variables use for compatibility with old games.
  229.

  232. Problem: When running certain Direct 3D games, may see visual anomalies as a result 
  233. of Anti-Aliasing.
  234.  
  235. Resolution: Bring up the Display Control Panel, click on Voodoo2 tab, click on
  236. Advanced button, and deselect Anti-Aliasing for Direct 3D.
